PS3 vs. X-Box

I am currently playing GTA on the PS3 but got a chance to play it on X-Box Live (brother in-laws account).

I was not surprised to find out the X-Box Live Network was WAY better than PS3. Once you get over that Rckstr’s online system...well...sucks ass...the X-box system helps it out while the PSN hinders it.

Things like the fact that you can get to your ranking and stats right from the X-Box console while you have to go to Rckstr’s website to get to the PS3 stats (which I now assume is ONLY PS3 stats). Inviting another player or accepting another’s invite is WAY easier on X-Box. On X-Box, you can send messages to other players while playing the game. AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO BACK OUT OF THE GAME TO DO IT!! That is a HUGE problem for PS3 in general; you can’t get to your console controls/directory without leaving whatever game you are playing.

The microphones work better on X-Box; clearer, less echo and can hear other PPLs chatter through the TV, even if you mic is off, if you want to.

The controls for X-Box are more sensitive and responsive (at least for GTA IV).

Now it may sound like I am saying that the X-Box is better...well... that depends on how you define better...

I have gone through three X-boxes and two 360s since I bought my first one and don’t know anybody that hasn’t gone through at least one or two, while I am still playing on the PS2 I bought the week they came out and even have a working PS1!

And I would rather have a console that will be around in a few years, even if it has some navigation issues, than a console with a perfect network that won’t last a year. PS3 will eventually get the network right. Will X-Box ever get the bugs worked out of the consoles themselves?

And finally...

When I went to play GTA IV on X-Box live, I figured that, because of how many more ppl are using it than the PSN, I would absolutely get my ass handed to me again and again. But it didn’t work that way. In fact, it was just the opposite. I played ranked matches for about five hours on X-Box Live and DOMINATED ABSOLUTELY EVERY ONE!!! Even against rank 8 players I doubled and even tripled the next highest score every time! I really couldn’t believe it!

But I think I have figured out what the deal is. X-Box has so many really good FPSs to play online that I believe that most of the good players are playing them, not GTA. And don’t get me wrong all you X-Boxers here in the forums...I’m not saying that there are no good GTA players on X-Box, just that I couldn’t seem to find any in the five hours I played, while I can find a challenge on PS3 in a few lobby jumps.

Needless to say, there is only one solution: One must own both! I know, I know...who’s got the f*cking money for that! Me? I gave up presents from my wife and son for the next 10 or 12 holidays to get them.

My GTA IV for X-Box will be here in a few days (had to get it online to get the three months of free x-box live).

While I do agree that the online experience as a whole is better on Xbox, you have to take into consideration that it costs money, whereas the PS3 online mode is free. You get what you pay for, and I'll deal with the small annoyances here and there for PS3 if I don't have to shell out more green to play.

Next, I don't think it matters how many people are playing on either console. When you join any given game, you're pitted up against 1-15 other random players. At that point, it matters not how many people play the game, but what opponents you're playing against. If anything, the vast amount of people playing on Xbox may make it harder to find a good player. The game is relatively new and there are a lot of noobs out there (from what i've seen on PS3).

As far as your "one must own both" comment, I also have to disagree. I would rather have a PS3 any day, because: A) the online is free, B) No red ring of death, C) Better hardware D) Blue ray drive, which will allow for larger and better games in the future. Then again, I don't like Halo, so I see no need to own an Xbox

In terms of graphics, look at this

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=137829

What do you think ?

Honestly, both playing 360 and PS3 ones on 720p, no major difference, but the 360 looks more clinical, PS3 looks more film like where everything is a little more smoothened.

No big difference I think, although it does mainly hinge on which platform all your mates play on.

AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO BACK OUT OF THE GAME TO DO IT!!  That is a HUGE problem for PS3 in general; you can’t get to your console controls/directory without leaving whatever game you are playing.

That problem could be solved very soon, according to this website (and a few other websites)

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3167.html

PS3 Firmware 2.40 will include in-game XMB meaning you can go to messages without leaving the game

It also says that 2.40 will be out wednesday

if only they charged you for PSN, then it'd be a lot better, i feel like thats why XBL is better, is the subscription fees go toward making it more user friendly

monocle.gif by jove hes got itz ZOMG!!!one!

no really though, i like my ps3 because i dont have to pay for the online, it has never failed me yet, and i am yet to even experience lag on it. and tbh i wouldn't play online if i had to pay for the online, and i would have bought a 360 due to the fact theyre cheaper if the ps3 didnt have free online.

From what I've heard, people that have both tend to prefer the XBOX Live network for GTA IV. However,

the PSN is rapidly improving (XMB really soon and home in fall!), and also is a lot newer than XBL, oh and also free. I firmly believe that the PSN will be approximately equal to, if not ahead of, XBL before the end of 2009.

Who cares about those insignificant facts when there's still something around called "preference"? sarcasm.gif

Besides, most, if not all of us, already have either of said two consoles and aren't gonna trade-in for, or buy the other, regardless of it's advantages. (or have both already and couldn't care less anyway)

GTA 4 is better on Xbox if you consider multiplayer, like you say, lots of people, almost everyone has headsets, and it's slightly more accommodating. The Xbox version also loads slightly quicker. And we're getting new content.

But it looks a lot better on PS3, near infinite viewing distance, and you don't get as many objects fading in and out.
