After completing GTA: IV I've come to appreciate how great Vice City was it was legendary!

I think I've got my old copy and am hoping to dig it out soon if not buy a new copy.

Anyone know if PS2 games work on the PS3 I've never tried thanks.

Yeah, PS2 games do work on the PS3. I've heard that the graphics are considerably worse with backwards compatibility.

Yeah, they work on the PS3. And yeah, Vice City was a legendary game. It brings back a lot of memories from 2002 and 2003 for me.

When I first played Vice City on my PS3 the graphics were kinda blurry, but then I updated my software and everything was fine. Only the 20 GB, 60GB and 80GB PS3's have backwards compatibility though so if you got a 40GB PS3 it won't work. I still love and rate Vice City, i'll have to dig my copy out soon too

PS2 games only work on the 20gb, 60gb and 80gb versions I think. The newer 40gb version isn't backwards compatible.

Luckily I have the 60gb version, so I can still enjoy the wonder of Vice City smile.gif

I have not tried VC on my PS3 yet (I have the 80 GB one)..... but someone posted on here about the Top Fun Van for the RC car race not spawning near the track on the PS3-- I was able to get them to get it to work by having them bring one of the top fun vans from one of the other RC races over to the beach-- after they figured out where to park it they got it to start by exiting and re-entering the van.

I don't know of any other problems with VC on PS3... if you do encounter any issues, I would appreciate it if you post back here....

I'm a bit disapointed with GTA IV too.... the story drifts a bit and the actual mission/gameplay is actually not as good as some of the missions on SA.... I liked SA's missions alot, didn't care for the story though. I think I like VC the best just because of the period -- and it was my first GTA game as well.... it makes it hard for other GTAs to measure up.

I will reserve judgement on IV until I'm done with the game--- I'm about 50% complete of the game and I think I'm getting close to fininshing the story.... I do love the Multiplayer part of IV though-- although they could improve the way you join games.

Apart from that van not spawning, its fine, after a few hours im used to the graphics and car controlls. It looks better than id did on ps2, not worse.

All the PS3's the 40GB, 60GB, and 80GB, should all be compatible with PS2 games Just like the PS2 was comptible with PS1 games. What's so different about the 40GB version from the rest of the PS3's? Besides the size of the hard drive (40GB vs. 60 or 80Gb). Because (at least in this part of the USA), all they sell in the stores are the 40GB models, and I checked all the stores- Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Circuit City, Best Buy. And the on-line stores for these companies. Hope this helps.

Just to clarify, the 20, 60, & 80 GB versions are compatible with PS2 games, the 40 GB (sold at a reduced price) is NOT.

The initial PS3 launch offered a 20 or 60 GB version--- Last year they reduced the price of the low end one to $399 and increased the HD size to 40 GB but in exchange they did not make it backwards compatible to PS2 games... so the extra $100 you might want to spend is if you want to play your PS2 games on the same console... I did so I spent the extra $100-- the wireless controllers are great too... I can put the console in another room if I want.

I could not find the 80 GB one at local stores when I looked--- I bought mine online at a Sony Style store-- was shipped to my door for free in under a week.

I don't see the 80 GB PS3 for sale now. It's just the crappy 40 GB Version. I'm hoping to get a 80 GB PS3 soon, so I can play GTA IV and Metal Gear Soild 4.

Someone where I worked mentioned Best Buy is going to start carrying them.

//edit//

Looks like it might just be online via Bestbuy... says not available in stores http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...mprd91200050000

I got mine from sonystyle.com -- it was out and back ordered but was shipped 2 days after I ordered..

With free shipping does it matter??

What happens when you save Vice City can you or would it suggest that you put a memory stick in? Would the PS3 saving capabilities work on Vice City or would the game not think that the device was already there?

In answer to would GTA IV go onto the PC I've no idea but I highly doubt it. Bearing in mind the new RAGE game engine is so great and their is so much saved files on it I think the PC would struggle. But hey I don't know hoping for you that it comes out on the PC!

For PS2 games on the PS3, what you do is create virtual memory cards on the PS3's hard drive-- you can call it whatever you want-- I had 3 cards and named them card 1, 2, & 3.

To move the old cards over you need a PS3 memory card adapter- I found one on ebay for about $8 shipped. You plug your card into it, and then plug it via a USB cable to one of the USBs on the PS3. Then you can copy over the card to the hard drive-- this took me about 5 minutes to move over all my saves-- I haven't decided whether or not to keep the reader or re-sell it on ebay-- I might have a use for it.

Why is there a thread about the same thign: one for PS3 and Xbox 360?

I imagine as they are both different console games.

Also what the hell I think this thread was here before the 360 one? So zip it.

The graphics are actually better.

You'll need an 80gb PS3 to play any PS2 games though.

Sorry, not trying to start anything.

...I don't even have either console, is the PS3 backward compatible?

How exactly are the graphics worse? Is it longer loading times? Draw distance problems? Ground textures not loading when going fast in the car? This is all stuff that pops up when I play Vice on a regular PS2, so if this is the case I will definitely be keeping it if it's worse on PS3.

VC is a masterpiece, and has aged well. Even after SA I still like popping in Vice from time to time, and is probably my favorite PS2 GTA title, all things considered.

I wonder if we'll ever see Vice City redone next-gen style like Liberty City in GTA IV.

I think so I think the next GTA 5 will be Vice City as a remake playing either Niko or Tommy's son.

It probably won't be called GTAV, they won't recycle Niko and chances are very slim that you'll be Tommy's son.

Though I would love if it was set in a remade VC.

Could you back up your arguments with a few points it's not very established otherwise icon13.gif.

Just an opinion, sorry if I sounded like a dick.

But they probably wouldn't have you play as Tommy's son because Tommy exists only in the GTAIII canon.

I don't think you'd play as Niko because they've never reused an old protagonist and I don't think they'll start now.

They wouldn't call it GTAV because they just started a new canon, and it will likely have other games like GTAIII had VC and SA.

They're valid enough points.

I'm sure we can discuss this without the flaming. Why does that always happen when people talk about theoretical upcoming GTAs?

I do think Tommy and the rest of the VC characters would not be making any appearances, and likely will have only a little to do with GTA4. Most VC characters were completely new to the GTA3 canon when it came out, and Tommy had little to do with the events of GTA3 since that was ~30 years after Mr. Vercetti was thrown in prison.

What if Rockstar pulls a total swerve and gives us a brand new city next time?

The graphics don't appear to bad. A little blurred though but perfectly acceptable. The console understands that it is a Playstation 2 game cleverly and creates a internal memory hard drive which you must then name.

My only problem with Vice City is:

- You cannot swim but this was rectified in San Andrea's the game that followed.

- Tommy's clumsiness there was a element of that with CJ in San Andrea's but the new game engine seems to have corrected that on the Playstation 3.

- Speed. The cars seem to go much faster than all of the other GTA games also applies for Tommy's running ability mercie_blink.gif .

Hope this helps if anyone is worried about playing PS2 games on PS3. I'm sorry I don't have a Xbox.

Yes you can play vice city on ps3. But you have to download it from psn store. Or you have hacked ps3, then download it online.
