Of course Live at Pompeii is a feat of filmaking (as I coined it <-), but not an actual live concert. Just best presented for the filming crew and director Adrian Maben

I would say as far as Syd Barrett, Madcap Laughs is the stronger solo release, but the flub ups captured are endearing in hindsight, everything Gilmour and others relate to the experience is pure exasperation working with Syd.

In the end, we can all be thankful they toughed it out!!

I f*cking love Atom Heart Mother and the older albums with Syd. See Emily Play is one of my favourite's. I just listened to the entire 23 minute Atom Heart Mother and am not bored. The guys themselves don't like it anymore and even called it rubbish. I beg to differ.

Echoes kicks ass yes.

It's good to see so many Floyd fans. Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since I was a kid. My favorite albums would have to be in this order:

1. The Wall

2. The Final Cut

3. Animals

4. Atom Heart Mother

5. Wish You Were Here

6. The Division Bell

My favorite live performances would have to be P.U.L.S.E. Also, has anyone heard live in Gdansk? It's pretty epic. I also downloaded recently The Wall live in Earl's Court. I forget the year but it's back when Floyd was together.

As always, R.I.P Richard Wright, R.I.P Syd Barrett.

Always will love, The Pink Floyd Sound.

I mentioned what I thought might be the Barbet Schroeder films La Vallee and MORE as being the ones they had written off, but I think you're right, or at least could be about Atom Heart Mother Suite. However, I think they're just too close to it.

As Dave Gilmour pointed out on ROCKLINE during their early reunion phase, "I can't see it the way some others can, It's just the career I'm in." Modest.

He expressed in the same Question called in that he wishes he could put on headphones, throw on Dark Side and get the experience of hearing for the first time, but because he was actively creating the piece, he can never get that outsider perspective. I'd urge you to check out SIMPLY ALL of their recordings, even the solo affairs. If you like one or two, there will surely be even more you'll like!!

Where is the topic starter anyway????

I was going to add two Floyish Gilmour songs to the Rate a song topic, I did one Floyd track already. St. Tropez.

The two I found on YouTube, two favorites I really like, Childhood's End and I can't Breathe Anymore.

The latter, look for the YouTube version added with extended outro. There's more then one from that YT member, and you may just subscribe to his channel if you like Prog!!

I adore this band more than i adore anything else.

Shine on you crazy diamond, the first part, when the toms build up into the actual drums is just incredible.

magic mushrooms + Dark side of the moon + Whitecap visualisations = so much win.

Let's dispense with the idea one needs to take drugs to enjoy this! ^ I never have, I just love how Floyd took rock in their own direction, based in no small part on their upbringing and surroundings. They were not your typical musicians and approached their art as such

I love Pink Floyd. I have all their albums and all live dvd's from Gilmour and Waters. I think Animals is my favorite album. I think Echoes or Comfortably Numb are my 2 favorite songs.

To be honest, Roger didn't do solo so well either, but Dave didn't either. But I think they both contributed a lot to Pink Floyd, and I hope they reunite again. Pulse is a brilliant live dvd, and DSOM, WYWH and Animals are 3 of the greatest prog rock albums of all time.

My sister's husband just prefers Roger Waters solo over PF or the other members solo recordings, and a few really love Syd Barrett's unique muse. I think they ALL had their off moments but I concur that as a band it jelled on so many levels, it was magical and remains so!

I love this band so much, I think The Wall is my favorite but only because I discovered it after I lived in a way that forced me to relate to it, and it scared me, and moved me. What came after my first experiences with pink floyd were new experiences with pink floyd, and it rolled on and on - they have such an impressive catalogue. I don't know if you guys talked about Eugene but...

Now you can smack anyone who tries to tell you that wasn't really him making that sound, any of the times they used it wink.gif

That's one of the things that made them most powerful to me was consistency - more than consistently producing, but producing with consistency to their content - they are among the greatest.

After the Wall, I really like Animals, DSotM, the early Ummagumma, I really liked momentary lapse of reason and it really was "still pink floyd" to me and learning to fly was profound, but I didn't get into Waters' solo stuff. That's not saying I didn't like his stuff either though, and I definitely liked the duets more than anything where David sang a part and used his guitar, and Roger sang the lead.

I don't think Syd Barret is really crazy, or if he is, not in the way his music would make us imagine, and I often wonder if he puppeted all of it, and a few other choice bands - but that kind of thinking can just come from the consistency with regard to pink floyd's music, and the emulation that came from artists thereafter from the influence they had upon the world of music.

And it's f*cking TRUE too: We don't need no education - at least not the sh*t they are slinging. Knowledge is one thing, a good thing, but obedience and conformity is another thing, a very bad thing. Their delivery of that call was profound as anything else they made.

Among my top 10 favorite live performers, without thinking about it I could easily say "They'd be in my top ten and it'd take a lot to move them from one" because their live showmanship is amazing - and on the strength of the delivery of the music alone, without the addition of the production.

Amused to death was good, but The Division bell was also a masterpiece. Piper was also a good album.

I've got no complaints. Chapter 24 that Syd wrote, that was one I didn't care for much, Money was not a favorite off the bat, but I heard Ummagumma and everything changed in my outlook on Floyd, oh so many years ago, thanks to my cousins for that, in large part.

I don't have every recording, but I grabbed a few bootlegs along the way!

I think Animals is my favorite album.

Nice to see Animals getting some recognition. Definitely my favorite album from them, and one of my top 5 albums of all time.

I feel it is regarded, Dogs especially is an epic with Pink Floyd fans.

The Battersea cover is iconic and I found myself appreciating the location photos for hours, they have a very resonant isolation befitting the music. On the LP is the circular mural graphic around the spindle hole, a different picture on A/B sides!

BUMPing... FLOYD, I wonder, what do you Young guys think of not being able to see the band live anymore?

David Gilmour is more likely NOT to tour, but was still nice to see him out there with a new DVD. As well, Roger Waters drew more fans then ever thanks to the lack of Pink Floyd as Gilmour, Mason and Wright.

I dug up the film MORE from 1969 by Barbet Schroeder again, man, talk about a TRIP, listen to the Floyd's music in that film, versus the album release version! There are some differences, and it just seems so fresh and ahead of it's time. STILL

well, I think anyone would be disappointed by not having their favorite band be touring anymore, but they were broken up long before I got into them so it's not like I really had a chance. Besides, I'm doing my best; seen Waters twice live. Haven't had a chance for Gilmour.

Speaking of Waters' shows, has anyone else heard stuff about him contemplating touring The Wall in 2010/2011? I for one have no words for such a thing...my favorite album played by 1/4ths of my favorite band...it'd be one of the major events in my life so far. Plus he'd probably go all out and get some schweet effects goin on like they did in Berlin.

A co-worker I had discussed it with said basically "Been there, done that", simply blowing off a chance to see them again! Another guy from work and I went to the Laser Spectacular version, before going to Roger Waters' In the Flesh.

Check out La Vallee as well from Schroeder

I f*cking hope this happens. I need to see somebody from Floyd live to complete my life. A Wall tour by Roger would be sick and a great way to start the decade.

That somebody from Floyd would be David Gilmour for me, as I last saw him with Rick Wright, who has since passed, and Nick Mason, whom I'd like to hear and see more of. Mason keeps a low profile as of late, but then again, they all do.

Waters was supposed to have a rock album out some time ago, and I believe we're still waiting for that, nothing out like Amused to Death

When I checked it out, had a low rating, however, I felt your voice wasn't TOO far off, worthy of a better 'score'.

The visual EFX add to the 60s feel of time and place, though I can see it as a cover for personal identity in the modern age! haha

Dominoes was of course dusted off by Gilmour in recent years. I was amazed he dug up a Mary Poppins song and made it so amazing in translation

Just listening to Welcome To The Machine. Love the wobbly synth in it!

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but Roger Waters is working on a new album with The Orb.

Check It!

If you dont know who the Orb are this is probably their most famous track...

I was pretty sure it was a "rock" album, having done the operatic French one some time back already. I hope to hear more news from the Gilmour camp soon. He "retired" with a flurry of DVD releases, it had seemed like. Not all that prolific in his old age. Still, his amazingly brilliant guitar work deserves to be heard as long as he can do it!

When I saw the Gilmour led lineup, back in 1987/88, it was my first time I could go to a show and see the bands I loved as a kid, so while thrilling, it was the largest auditorium in our State, so sitting directly opposite the stage made the in-between-song banter almost impossible to hear, well, I don't even recall what Dave was saying! Of coure, it was decades ago, but thankfully, I got another chance to witness the band.

SICKRAGE

A few years back I rolled my Grand-Am off the freeway. I wasn't hurt and no one else was envolved thankfully.

It was 4:00 a.m. and I was super tired. I started dozing off so I pushed play on whatever CD I had in there. It was Pink Floyd smile.gif

I turned it to -Shine on you crazy diamond- one of my personal favs. I now wish I would have put on some death metal as that what I commonly listing to.

But Pink Floyd was so relaxing.

A little too relaxing as I quickly fell asleep and rolled three times all the way over to the other side of the highway. I was wearing my seatbelt icon14.gif

If not I'd possibly be dead. My shoes managed to go flying out of the car. I still love Pink Floyd though lol
