Pink Floyd topic

Blind Joe Death

Change of subject...what's everyone's top 5 Pink Floyd albums in order? I wasn't going to post this since I knew it was almost impossible as my list changes all the time, but why not.

1. Dark Side of the Moon

2. The Wall (so many fans say it's overrated, but I think it's a genius album)

3. Animals

4. Wish You Were Here

5. Meddle

That was damn hard to do. Animal Heart Mother, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Obscured by Clouds, The Final Cut, The Division Bell, A Momentary Lapse of Reason all could have made it. Oh hell with it, they all could of made it. I love them all.

I've changed that list over 5 times since I've been typing this by the way, but I've decided to just leave it now.

I can never choose based on the need to hear something in particular and that changes as well... I would say this,

OPEN LETTER TO CBS/FOX==========

===========================

WHERE THE F**K IS THE D. GILMOUR LIVE DVD??!???!

REMEMBER THE ONE RELEASED TO VHS only???!! ONLY?!?

No Beta?? No Laserdisc?? Where the HELL IS IT!???

I want my copy NOW....YESTERDAY

I think it's just tragic the PF people putting out the material dropped the ball with the 1984 Gilmour live video. I was just

reading about drummer Chris Slade working with Pete Way

In his BIO it clearly tells of his touring and working with

Mick Ralphs' Band then David Gilmour on About Face.

Found ONE used copy, I'm after this in the mean time;

I have the Final Cut in my bedside CD player, after enjoying Damn Yankees and The Eagles as well as the Spin Doctors hahaha

However, I own three copies on LP of Wish You Were Here, but I think PULSE is my favorite with a mix of old and new.

Also recomment the Roger Water's Live DVD of his earlier tour, that is fantastic!!!!

Also, how many got a copy of the Live8 reunion? I bought it off eBay and then the official DVD comp came out.

I love the Animals CD, after owning the record for many years.

The Battersea skyline in the cover shot is so amazing, the quality and beauty of it! Storm's best.

I've got it on bootleg but that's about it. I have about 30 Gigs of Bootlegs on one of my hard drives which dates all the way back to the early 70s which are great to listen to. I especially like hearing the various versions of Raving and Drooling/You Gotta Be Crazy before they became Sheep/Dogs.

Yep, those live versions are on the Pink Floyd set I started off talking about in this thread! They are worth getting a hold of for sure.

The 1984 About Face self titled VHS that CBS put out?? I got outbid on it, sure enough!

DAMN!

There's no justice mad.gif

I was going to post this news where it also should be, I got this link on the story.... SAD, the passing of an era was capped with the Live8 performance, as short as it was, now Syd and Wright will be honored by Gilmour and Waters as well as Nick Mason.

I am so glad I got to bear witness to the reunion as well as the performances of the band, despite the 1980 split, and the Final Cut problems, I was still and remain a fan of that album as well.

Richard Wright has two solo albums I am really aware of, Wet Dreams and Broken China. I advise a listen.

Like I said in the other topic, a tear came to my eye.

/me plays Great Gig in the Sky

P.S. I was thinking, maybe this will acctually trigger a tribute concert for Rick with the remaining members of the band. I'm sure they can do it without him and if not they could have someone in there to help. But yeah, maybe they'll realize that this bickering nonsense is completely stupid and that for them to come back together for one more performance would be what Rick wanted.

Just a thought.

Sad. Seems hardly anyone knew he was sick.

I don't think anyone knew except his family and maybe the people in the band. He was a very private man and kept the lowest profile in the band, and when you consider they all keep fairly low profiles that's saying something.

He will be missed.

I wouldn't hold my breath on a tribute reunion. but for sure, pick up Nick Mason's HUGE book on the Pink Floyd, as well as Miles' Visual PF. They are the best books on Floyd the band

the Australian Pink Floyd Show is coming to my city..

i think i'll go. i need some live shows anyway, and tribute bands can be great. it's not so much a musician/fan relationship as it is a fan/fan. so they get into it, they like it, they're right there with ya...

Of course, you know they played Gilmour's 50th B day party. They also were featured on a PBS pledge drive in concert. I got to see them on that. I think they are not carbon copies, but certainly worthy of a tribute act.

I'd say go and see them, it's an amazing show me and my friend (Who isn't really into Floyd that much) went a few years ago and we both loved it.

Well, non-Floyd fans who still take some interest, they really love those Laser Spectacular events. Used to be quite often they were presented, once a year...but that isn't the case anymore.

Mods, bear with me....

I picked up two guitar related magazines, one with Metallica prominently featured. In this issue is an ad for new Gilmour LIVE DVD and CD package. Be sure to look for the best packaging, there appears to be three of them I think.

The concert DOES feature Richard Wright so it's a must own, obviously!

I'm VERY excited about this! It's in BluRay!

On a side note related, ZZ TOP are also releasing a Live in Texas concert in BluRay!!

Yeah, I'll definitely get the DVD when I have some money. From what I can remember it features an orchestra, should be interesting.

P.S. Still thinking of Rick. sad.gif

I prefer the ultimate nod to Floyd, The Orb, Dr. Lx Paterson even stuck Battersea power station on the inside cover of first album "Adventures beyond the Ultraworld"(See Melody Maker march27 1993 for artlcle with interview and pic of Dave Gilmour&Lx Paterson together. Ultimate respk for each other).5 Floyd/Orb connexions:Drugs, Guy Pratt, Outer Space, Long(loong)songs, Wibble(typical conversational gambit from fans of either band).

The Pink Floyd Sound is the original name that was shortened, so he obviously knows the history of the band. I worked with a guy who hated them, and I flat out said to him, I'll never understand that. I can see people picking favorites, but it's just so awesome!

Plenty of rare video now on YouTube, I was saving clips this morning off there and planning the same.... I've not seen most of the French TV stuff, and most of it is non-USA clips, very good quality too.

Yeah i know, i was only kidding. I've met many people who don't like them. I think it's because they often come across as a bit dreary, and their lyrics aren't instantly accessible either. A lot of their earlier stuff has that 60s sound that people tend to shy away from. But still they are awesome. I could go on and on about why, but i would only be preaching to the choir, so i won't

I don't think I've met one person my age, or close to my age, that likes Pink Floyd. That's in RL mind you, I've met loads over the net. Well I haven't really asked but if they listen to sh*t like Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy there's no chance they'll like or possibly even know who Pink Floyd is.

That reminds me, I hate it how people call themselves Pink Floyd fans and yet they think Dark Side of the Moon is a song. Or they tell me about how much they love the song "We Don't Need No Education", not my incorrect tagging of course.

The New Pollution

That being said, I do find it quite annoying when tracks like 'Brain Damage', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2' (which, I admit, are great songs in their own right) are touted by so-called Floyd fans as favourites and receive the greatest public attention, while equally great (if not better) tracks like 'Echoes' (along with most of Meddle), 'Goodbye Blue Sky' and 'Lucifer Sam' are simply ignored and not given the attention they deserve.
