I'm thinking about buying all the pink Floyd albums. Would you recommend that I buy them all separately or buy a box set if so which box set?

CD, Compact Disc along with DVDs, it's high, HIGH RESOLUTION Audio, the demos aside. Don't worry. CDs came about in 1983, so it's been a long time since the 16bit revolution! haha

Which version CD? You know of the SACD version of that same album? These will be specially mixed to surround I believe, original and whatnot, quad, you name it! haha

Well, I had an original CD of DSoTM, but it's not an issue, I have listened to LP vinyl since I was a baby, basically, my turntable was complete horses**t, then I got a rather good Technics, Pioneer, and Yamaha before settling on an RCA linear track one I picked up used, it gets me by fine

SACD is not what will be in the Immersion versions since they have to provide DVD and CD in a complete DELUXE Ultimate package, SACD would limit who can play them, DVD Audio uses Dolby Digital and the HD version multichannel that Meridian developed (can't recall the details here and now)

One of the first Pink Floyd METAL songs... Not Meddle. haha

The actual earliest Proto-Punk Pink Floyd was The Nile Song.

Ibiza Bar lyrics are funky, I believe the song refers to the lyricist being an inanimate object, the Camera referred to in the song. I'm not sure it makes complete sense.

The movie phase for Pink Floyd Gilmour admits was to pay the bills, not an artistic move on The Floyd's part.

However, it wasn't something they took pride in, nearly calling that and other albums "Rubbish", but the fans contend that most of the songs really do appeal to them and they love them as much as any Floyd album done in it's own right.

If you listen to interviews years separate from those recordings, the opinions have changed over time. I believe fans had imparted that re-examining the songs for those closely associated with the work, the musicians themselves, gives them the distance apart from the material to approach it differently.

David Gilmour always expressed this in various interviews, that it's just the career he's in. He can't see it the way the listeners can, That the notes seem to drop from his guitar as if by divine intervention, that he'll never get the experience a listener has with fresh ears, approaching his own work. These were all interview statements over the years, and all of them give you a glimpse from the artists' end.

It was a bit eye opening to me in a way.

Hello biggrin.gif I've just stumbled upon this topic after lingering in the GTA V forum for a while. It's awesome smile.gif

Someone mentioned earlier (apologies for not remembering who) that they thought "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" and "The Division Bell" were both underrated albums. I agree with this. "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" is probably my second favourite album of theirs, with "The Wall" being number one. I went to see Roger Waters in Manchester earlier this year and honestly, I don't think I'll ever again be as happy as I was that night.

Also, Jack_Knife said "I'm being completely honest when I say Pink Floyd made me like drugs." This is true for me too. Not that I do them often, but when I do, it's always with a bottle of Jack/Teachers and my collection of Pink Floyd LP's. Nothing makes me feel more like myself than Pink Floyd do biggrin.gif

I was watching TheCOOLTv this evening and David Gilmour came up on the Tube with Comfortably Numb, from his Remember That Night DVD, featured Mr. Bob Geldof singing the words. He hated PF when asked about acting in the film, but he basically came around to an opposite view point. How amazingly cool, Bob, leader of the Boomtown Rats, you will recall?

There was a documentary on Pink Floyd on the BBC a while ago and, as you were saying, Bob was saying how much he disliked them and so forth. It was quite cool of him to happily concede that they're better than he thought. Did he happen to say why he did "The Wall" even though he didn't like them? Or was that after his change of heart? He never mentioned it in the interview I saw.

I think he was persuaded. I don't know details, but the cab driver who picked him up was Roger Water's brother? The question surfaced, perhaps at that point

I seem to always think it was a cab, but it could have been he was a limo driver, picking up Bob Geldof, when he was requested to star in the role... I believe, It's a long time ago that story came out, but it's one of the funny ones, sure! Bob Geldof was the guy who made Live8 happen, he made the calls personally to request they do the gig!

I looked it up online for a reference, I found it should be on this site with the film, and the Wiki for THE WALL centers on how it came to be, film and audio recording

The Dam Busters features into the movie THE WALL, so I looked up info about that as well, the classic scene; ni**er's dead... He got ran over by a car!

Eh, is this bullsh*t or the real deal? I can't believe I haven't heard about it before.

As the reply left was about knowing all the PF secrets, why'd you forget the infamous backwards masking??

As mentioned, it was a joke done out of boredom at the time, while in the South of France

The bacward masking phenom had prompted some joking from recording artists, since there were accusations made about music where no such backward lyrics actually existed

Love PIGS, three diff ones

Oh, and in case you never noticed, my avatar is the cover of ANIMALS overlaid with David Gilmour's solo CD of the past few years

Dogs is still the best rack on Animals.

They actually play PIGS on the radio, versus any other track on it. I've always loved that intro .... something magical about it. Oh, and of course, Snowy White does the extended guitar solo for the looping 8-track edition of Animals, it's awesome as heck. Trip probably remembers that!

I found a newly added YT video for Pink Floyd's soundtrack sessions; Crumbling Land... Check this out for RARE FLOYD!!!

I really did miss this one in all my years enjoying their music, damn

Just because they play Pigs on the radio doesn't make it better. Almost every single Floyd song they play on the radio has a better counterpart on the same album. Especially Another Brick in the Wall 2, god I can't stand that song. I never hear Us and Them on the radio(this is all my opinion) the best song on Dark Side, yet I cant go more than a few days without Money(i only listen to radio while driving). I can understand that Dogs isn't on there because is 17 minutes long. This is when the radio isn't playing sh*t bands like Guns n Roses over and over again.

...Just because Dogs is the longest track doesn't make it better!?! I'm not arguing over it, everyone has a favorite track, dude! It's not that hard to fathom

I needed to add this one too because it's actually another take on Rain in the Country, and has a title, is known, in other words

I don't make a connection to GnR being a bad band, Slash is a fan of Pink Floyd, I'm sure of it.

I would also agree radio playlists make no sense though

I never said it was the best because of length, not once. and i'm not arguing i'm just adjusting your skewed view.

Also this is just amazing

The length comment is a joke referring to who likes what, and for what reason. During the radio interviews, a caller told Dave Gilmour his best guitar work ever was in Dogs, and you know, I won't make any issue out of it, Dave should hear things like that, everyone loves The Floyd for different reasons, I know this because my own friends over the long haul, they've all said varying view points on the Floyd, like one guy saying if you like or loved the PF, you should also like or love The Grateful Dead, which is not true either

I actually agree with you...

I can't go long without listening to Floyd, I could go my entire life knowing I never had to listen to the Grateful Dead.

A touch of Gray is my favorite of the old Garcia tracks before he passed.

I'm not a fair weather Floyd fan by a long stretch, but based on radio exposure, I hated Money at first, then my cousins played Ummagumma for me, one time, and I instantly latched onto the band, I love all their stuff now... Even the weaker tracks like Chapter 24 from Barrett!
