What religion are you?

Oh come on. I just wanna know. People always talk about "god revealing" himself to them. I just wanna know how it seems. If there is no answer, it is simply bullsh*t, believe it or not.

No, it's just bullsh*t tounge.gif.

The only thing I really want to find out from a religious person is why they believe in their god and no other. There has to be a better reason than "because my God is real" or "I've had 'experiences.'" Those reasons are not valid, you only had an experience because you are delusional from your illogical thinking that comes with your non-existent god.

So, please, can some religious person please tell me why they dismiss all other gods but their own?

Just simply personal choice. Why do some people have their hair short and others have it long. Some people say long hair is for girls. Why do they think theirs is better than others? Personal choice. I choose to believe the non-denominational Bible rather than Catholic Bibles and I choose to believe my God rather than other Gods. Make sense? Just simply personal choice. smile.gif

So, please, can some religious person please tell me why they dismiss all other gods but their own?

I don't dismiss other religions. I believe that all religions have their truths for the people who believe in them.

For example, if a Buddhist has been a good person and worshipped Buddha, he will go to Nirvana when he dies.

Similarly, if he has been a bad person he will go to the Underworld.

Same goes for Christian beliefs. If a Christian leads a good life, he'll go to Heaven and so will the Buddhist go to Nirvana. I believe that they co-exist, and that a good person will go to the place they believe in.

I'm not sure if I buy the whole Heaven thing though. I believe more in reincarnation, I just used Heaven and Hell as metaphors.

Thats so contradictory its not even funny. Why? Cause the Bible basically says Buddha is fake (false teachings). sarcasm.gif

Ooooh, the bible said it so it must be true. Seriously, that's pretty damn closed minded. You're part of the reason that people insult Christians.

Chill man. Im just saying if you believe what the Bible says, you cant believe what Buddists teach, cause the Bible says that is wrong. And Im saying the Bible is just what I believe to be truth. Dont believe that if you dont want to, but that is what I believe. k? cool? smile.gif

By the way, I love your avatar. biggrin.gif

I don't try to come off as harsh, I just do sometimes. blush.gif

I understand what you're saying. I live in the bible belt and I have to deal with close minded ignorant people on a daily basis. sad.gif

The main problem I have with Christians is their 'pick and choose' mentality as far as the bible is concerned. Please note that I am not picking on you specifically, as you seem pretty level-headed, but I'm rather having a gripe at experiences I have had with Christians. Here is an example of a conversation I have had:

Christian: I found out [name] was gay, so I stopped hanging out with him.

Me: What have you got against gay guys?

C: My religion doesn't exactly condone it, haha.

M: You have a girlfriend... I assume the two of you have slept together. Your religion doesn't condone that unless you're married, right?

C: Yeah, but the bible is a little outdated, some parts of it don't apply today.

That is a verbatim account of a conversation I have had in the past. It wasn't just that person who displayed this attitude either. Actually, every Christian I have ever known follows the bible when it is convenient with them.

I don't believe everything in the bible. The bible says homosexuals are sinners. How can you be evil for something you have little control over? The bible says pre-marital sex is not allowed. Has anyone in today's society waited until marriage to do the deed? I believe in God, but I'm not so sure about some parts of the bible. The bible was written by man. Man can lie.

You don't have to believe everything about Christianity to be a Christian.

You havent met proper Christians then. How old was the guy? Cause it sounds like a 15 year old who was raised in a Christian home and doesnt really understand what living like a Christ-follower is all about. Honestly, if I had a conversation like that with someone, it would peeve me off too.

Christians do quite often change what the Bible says to suit their own needs and that is wrong. But believe me, not all Christians are like that.

As far as the gay thing goes...there is nothing wrong with a Christian befriending a gay person...we think its wrong, but we need to try and lead that person from the sin. meh. smile.gif

Contrary to what most believe. Homosexuality according to the Bible is a CHOICE. You have control over it. It is not something you are born with.

And I know many adults who have waited until marriage. They have spoke truthfully with me though that it was not easy. They were very tempted, but that they ultimately were able to wait.

And the people who wrote the Bible did not lie, because the Bible is God-breathed. God inspired them to write. It may be hard to believe, but God was basically speaking the words to their hand.

I think a more proper course of action is to not try to change their life for what you think is "for the better".

Not trying to sound harsh, but I think it's just best to mind your own business when it comes to lifestyle. What business is it of yours or anyone else's what he does in his own house?

I agree with you completely, but I know what 365 will say:

It is my duty as a Christian to deliver sinners from evil, and make sure they do the Lord's work so they end up in heaven.

I don't "believe" anything, I merely understand and accept some scientific truths as fact, and keep an open mind to others without forming a real stance on it without enough evidence. That being said I don't doubt the existence of some kind of God, but I don't spend time thinking about it because there is no real evidence to say there is or isn't a God, just anecdotal story-telling and logic extended onto things that logic has no place in.

I wanted to say "I'm a scientist", but that would sound weird.

Nah, Sag' sounds like he has a life stance similar to mine.

Feel free to correct me, though.

I'm Atheist. I've seen too much bullsh*t and stuff in my life, in other's lives, and the world to think that there is some guy up there who loves us. Like George Carlin said, "Religion is mind control". I mean honestly who the f*ck wrote the bible? A couple government men so that that the world would stay somewhat in order for people who are religious? A few men who think they're wise? A "God"?

It's all bullsh*t.

Land Of Confusion

@ Mzeppelin: I'll agree with you on one point, Organized Religon that is blindly believed, is mind control, however, spirituality and faith, that are independently explored and decided upon are not mind control. And, In my faith, it is believed that the bible is not the final revelation of god, and is to be taken with a grain of salt due to it's being written by humans. But I can understand your hostility towards Christianity because, quite frankly, there are quite a few extremists who try to shove their belief down other people's throats, which was what turned myself off of it in the first place.

Yeah, I can't stand when Christians won't get out of your face with their beliefs.

Besides Christians, Baptists, ect. all "Live To Die". All they do is wait to die, so they can "go to heaven", so why not just kill themselves? I don't get it at all. My family was never religious at all and I'm not either.

Yea, I'm totally with you, I hate it when people of any religion harass you, but for some reason, it happens the most where I live with Christianity, maybe it's because i live in Texas tounge.gif.

And I think the idea of living is in order to purify your soul and enjoy the gift god gave you, or something like that. I have my own ideas about life though.

Yeah, this is a major problem I have with all religions.

What is definite: We are alive right now and can make the world a better place through our actions.

What is not definite: There is a paradise awaiting us after we die.

I reckon we should make life as good as possible for ourselves and the people that we associate with. What we have in front of us is assured, so let's make it a good place.

I reckon we should make life as good as possible for ourselves and the people that we associate with. What we have in front of us is assured, so let's make it a good place.

That's the way I think too. Like you said what's here now is here, and we all know it's here, so everybody should try and make the best of it. Unfortunently that will never happen so like they say, "Life's a bitch".
