mjnichols16
Hey guys. I've had this problem ever since I got my Xbox 360 last Christmas. Whenever I plug an ethernet cable into my Xbox and try to connect to Xbox Live, it can never find an IP address. I have a wireless USB internet connection from verizon Wireless going into a Mac, then from that going to a hub, and branching off from there I have the ethernet cable going to the Xbox. Any ideas on what to do? Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/355749-xbox-live-help/ Share on other sites
Rebel
Maybe get a wireless router for the back of your Xbox. That's what I did. Sorry I can't help you on your problem, but I suggest you read Xbox.com or ring them up, they can give you more information on how to fix it. Iminicus
You need to set your wireless modem to go through the hub and then to your Mac and 360. You don't need the wireless network adapter for the 360. Once you have done that, you need to bring up your modem/hub directory ( should be something like 10.1.1.1 ). Now change the setting to DCHP server. This will give out IP addresses to all connected electronics. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/355749-xbox-live-help/#findComment-1058224024 Share on other sites
Damo.
Speaking of Xbox Live problems: I'm trying to connect to Live. It passes all the connection tests until the Xbox Live bit. It says I need to download an update, but every time I try to download it, it fails and I can't connect. I scoured Xbox.com looking for a solution, but I couln't find anything. Does anyone know what to do? Reposted from the Official Xbox 360 Topic as no one there gives a rats arse. Iminicus
Check your router settings. If everything else connects, then there is something wrong with your router connecting to the Xbox Live servers. The easiest way to find out is to turn your router off. Wait, 10 seconds and turn it back on. That should reset all the information for Xbox Live and allow you to connect. Microsoft support aren't helping much either. I tried a direct connection but then it didn't even pass the IP test. My wireless adapter passes all the tests except that one, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I had to unplug my router, connect the ethernet to the Xbox, and then plug the router back in before it would go past that one. Pretty time consuming. Ethernet is a cable though? Of your using wireless turn off the computer first then it will work. Your computer must be using all the IP. Iminicus
Don't use wireless. Switch to CAT 5 Ethernet cable, the one that comes with the 360. Use that to set up Xbox Live. Wireless sucks for Xbox Live and I hate playing with people who use a wireless connect. You need to configure your modem/router for Xbox Live. Go to www.xbox.com/support and make sure your modem/router is supported for Xbox Live. Then you need to bring up your Config page. It should be something like 10.1.1.1.1, however different routers/modems have different pages. Call your IP to find out your config page address. From there you need to enable DHCP Server.
