GTA IV a 10/10

It's the most chill out GTA game since GTA III. SA was the least chillout, many loud noises, and harsh colors, still a perfect game as well. But yeah, IV and SA - perfect games. Just hope using those cheats doesn't affect sh*t, ya know?

Anyone who calls a game "perfect" is in denial. I've never played a game, and said "Yeah it's perfect".

 

GTA IV, and SA are fantastic games, but they're not perfect. A perfect game would suit everyone's tastes, but that would be just about impossible to do.

It's a great game, far better than SA IMO, but nowhere near perfect. No matter what all those sites say.

I'm not saying anything new here but people had too high expectations mate. SA (which I loved) was the grand achievement of the PS2 and some dumb f*ckers think Rockstar are going to pull another out of their arse. It took years to get from III to SA on the same platform! Jesus man, give them time! Having said that I see the lights of Algonquin reflected in the sea and it makes me want a burger from the 69th. To me,that makes a great game.

Great story and characters with the best voice acting of the series, but have you played it on Xbox? The controls weren't fined tuned and it made the game nearly unbearable to finish. Luckily, I played it on PS2 first.

i loved gta since No. 1 came out... before it became as famous as it is today.... but GTA 4 is no way the best perfect or even greatest GTA game to ever arrive...

 

it didnt really bring anything new to the systems but an engine which does look good but gets rather annoying fast.

 

to make such a statment is idiotic to call it a perfect game... just because some person whos being payed by either Take Two or R* gives it a 10/10 doesnt mean its the greatest game (and yes gaming companies do sponser/support reviewers aslong as there game gets a good score)

I have all the last 4 GTA games on PS2 (3, VC, SA, LCS)...I'm gettin a PSP soon for LCS's MP feature.

 

I never had a Xbox1 but I have a 360...got it just for IV...olny games I got for 360 is IV and Crack-Down so I'm kind of a noob.

 

I olny played VCS at my friends house but I think the story was not all that great as the other or maybe it just was not my style of theam...I mean I'm playin a guy who gets killed at the start of Vice City

 

VCS should had been based on Sonny Forelli's mafia or something.

What new things did IV bring to the table ? besides new graphics, sound, take cover, Euphoria and story choices ?...nothing ground-breaking really. In terms of "sand-box" gameing it's not a huge step up...just a few but not like 20 steps away from SA. You still can't enter every building nor do what ever you want.

 

When you think about the other GTA games got cheated out of their scores or R* paid them to give IV a 10/10.

At the end of the day, it's still a console costing you only a few hundred bucks that's doing all this.

 

You want every building to be enterable (is that a word), you'd need a lot more data. A LOT!

 

As far as not doing what you want... what's stopping you? What do you want to do that you can't do? You can't have sex with a goat. Should they have incorporated that feature into the game?

I was more trying to bring some perspective to the situation. Some of the things people are griping about are absurd.

 

For example: I have never seen so much space dedicated to pixellated fingerless gloves....

It sure did deserve that 10.

I reckon this game would've been better recieved if it didn't come out in a time, where there was alot of competition.

 

GTA III had a easy road to success, because it was unique for its time. Say GTA IV came out instead of the GTA III we know, would you really say it didn't bring alot to the table then?

 

If this was the first GTA made, would you still say the same thing? I think it's because it had alot to live up to, because of what the old GTAs achieved. It does seem strange that R* cut back so many things, but there must be a reason for it. I don't see R* blindly cutting back so many things people loved, without expecting a backlash. Maybe they did. I don't know.

 

I will always love the old GTAs, but I can appreciate the direction GTA IV has taken. Maybe it's boring to some people, but the technology has so much potential, it's not even funny. I can see the next GTA to be a real jewel in the crown now R* have a feel for everything, and hopefully they take the compliants into account.

The game has sold millions so it doesnt matter what we say now.

 

We all know which are the flaws of the game.

 

And the best enjoyment you can get from a game is to take it as it is. Every game has its set of rules, its set of available moves and actions, and its set of objectives. You cannot change those, unless you are the developer of the game.

 

To each of the million people who bought it, it represents something different. Not everyone is playing the game for the same reasons. Some just want to see the story of the game. They dont care if you can "freeroam". They just use the cars to get from point A to point B. The city is there just to immerse them and make it feel "real".

 

The basic apeal of GTA I think is the crime movie vibe, with car shootouts, car stealing, crime story etc.... Those aestethics.

 

 

My ultimate GTA would be:

 

Help of japanese designers (they would make the gameplay world class)

Quentin Tarantino written story

150 million production budget

a new city

5 years in the making

fully licensed soundtrack

world class voice actors

playtested by best playtesters

a game story which is so relevant that you would want to play the game just for it

easy to pickup, hard to master

accesible to casual gamers, a paradise for hardcore gamers

a cultural phenomenon

 

Of those things, GTA was already many of those. It is the biggest entertainment launch in history

It is the biggest money earner in the first week

It is mentioned in the mainstream news

It is showing what the interactive entertainment can do

 

The best thing is that the future is bright for GTA.

 

 

For those of you who dont find much fun in GTA IV gameplay, try GTASA PC + MTASA + RPG server. It is the best. Definitely fun. You can THINK of the stuff that you want to do. So imagination is working hard when you play it:)

 

Remember when we played old games, and the graphics were not so advanced so you imagined stuff.

 

So its graphical style over technical graphical features. Its the style of the graphics that matters. Look at cell shaded games.

The japanese are now making a black and white game, LA Noire will be black and white.

 

For Rockstar I suggest this:

 

The japanese designers make the character and his moves first, then they build the gameworld. So first you should make the characther physics tight, shooting tight, car physics etc..... Then build the world. Good game design needs to consider these things:

 

learning curve

easy to pickup, hard to master

immersion

load times

save system

scoring system

game bosses

replayability

play motivation (game rewards)

moral message of the game story (what does it want to say to us)

mission selection mode

cutscene viewer (unlockable when finishing the game)

 

When all those things fall into place, the game is great.

 

Golden rules:

 

gameplay over graphics (if the graphics are great, its a bonus)

framerate over graphical effects

clarity of textures over too blurry textures

 

try not to port the game (separate PS3/x360(windows) dev teams (I know its expensive)

try to atleast hit that 720p 30 FPS + AA with no frame drops

 

 

 

In the end it gets down to this:

 

an epic, "perfect game" can be made but, it would take many years, much money etc..... Then it would have to sell much copies.
