the new SR2 video thats ripping on GTA4 seems to be in bad taste. saints row is a gta-knock off, much like Scarface or true crime. it just seems weird for a company to completely copy another company's game then make fun of the original.

respect your elders.

It's pretty lame the only way SR2 can market itself is by saying it's more fun than GTAIV. It can't have much else to offer than a bunch of mindless features that had already been done in SA.

It leads me to believe that they are kind of desperate. I do admit the game looks fun, but they could've marketed the game alot better, without taking unprovoked stabs.

They live off GTA. They always have.

No, what I'm saying is the game Scarface that came out for PS2 and Xbox totally ripped off the Grand Theft Auto series. The creator even admitted it.

It doesnt look all that bad but have SR2 never heard 'Dont bite the hand that feeds you' If R* never started the GTA series i seriously doubt that there would be a SR or any other pile of sh*t weve hd to put up with throuh the years. TC & Driver to name a few. You have to beat the competiton before you take the piss out of it and SR will never do that.

Yeah, but they kind of hit the nail firmly on the head with that one. The range and choices of activities in GTA4 for an open-world crime game is terrible. Laughable even. It is a cheap shot though, considering Stillwater is honored in one of the street names.

Wait, people still think that other Free Roam games are a rip-off directly from GTA ?

God, it's 2008.

I concur. I don't want to play a poor version of a bowling game or a pool game. The extra things you can do in GTA4 are so sedentary they are BORING. Why would I want to watch TV? or go to a comedy club IN A GAME? I can do that in real life! I want rampages and hectic stuff, like GTA USED to be.

I can see what rockstar are trying to do - blur the line between film and video game as cinematic experience, where saints row 2 are keeping firmly routed within the confines and connotations associated with the label 'video game'. Cartoony/zainy fun. For example Rockstar might consider rampages a 'tacky' or 'immature' last-generation feature and that their audiences have grown up and want a more gritty and realistic experience, which is a pre-emptive assumption which as we have seen on these boards which is generally not the case. Saints Row 2 feels like an extension of the last generation, Grand Theft Auto IV is attempting to define a new era.

Doesnt do much good assuming the fan base has grown up if the player's first encounter was at 6 and theyre now 14.

Id like to think IM grown up, but I still think farting in public is hilarious. Can it ever NOT be?

Well, being a big fan of both francises, I sort of agreed with it. Some of those things look pretty fun, like cage matches and insurance fraud (which was fun in the last one).

I think GTA IV might be more accessible to a wider audience. They are no longer content with appealing to just 17/younger year old males and want to draw in a wider more adult audience of non-gamers, like the same demographic that might go see the next bond film. That is the way to progress gaming as a dominant artistic medium. It seems the core audience of the past might have to get their kicks somewhere else.

But having said all that, the humor is just as potent as ever IMO.

Rockstar can still make Saints Row2 look bad. They have a few tricks under there sleeves like the 1.DLC and they have also took the release date farther so they can see what SR2 does and make the DLC better.

2.They also have more cheats to release if its true and if ther are more cheats then San Andres. They can release the cheats on the exact date of SR2 release date or a day before so i will have a impact on SR2 thats for sure. biggrin.gif Time will tell.

EDIT=I will still buy the game because some feature are looking good.

I saw this vid and went straight to gaming chat to see a discussion on it but instead it's here in the IV forum, please people keep it in gaming chat before we all start taking sides, I can already see a terminator style civil war breaking when this does release.

I did like the features in the vid but you've got to wonder how many of them are going to have any depth, it's definatly the first time ive considered buying SR2. I cant understand all the people who keep whining about the comparisions to GTA / SR2 when the publishers are doing it themselves.

Agreed.

The major problem is that GTA has changed. Not so much that its no longer a GTA game, but so much that its no longer fun. Or ...whatever. I like that the direction its gone. And I like the new direction Bond has gone too.

Man...I feel like rantin about how great the new 007 is.

did anyone notice that the new sr2 trailer sounds and looks like it was aimed directly aimed at 14/15 year olds.

it kinda reminded me of when south park takes the piss out of advertising.

Actually, the opposite is true. Vice City came out before Scarface the game, several years before, in fact.
