DML
Well I was playing Quarantine and Carmageddon when I was 11 and 12 years of age, and I'm not a psychopathic murderer. Many people can play them without having the urge to shoot-up a school or shopping center afterwards. A crazy, murdering nut case is usually born a crazy, murdering nut case; and having played a game like GTA prior to committing their mass-murdering offenses, only serves as a convenient scapegoat/element to blame, for lifeless activists like Jack Thompson and, to a slightly-lesser extent, Hillary Clinton. Games don't kill people. Guns don't kill people. People kill people...and there's nothing the gun or the game can do to realistically persuade someone to go either way. nealmac
R = 18 Huh? since when? I thought that R was 17 and under admitted with an adult? You are thinking of 'X'... Over 18 ONLY. It depends on your country. In USA M=17 (which is what GTA is over there) @Hart: It's rated as 18 in Britain and Ireland. Again, every country has there own classification system. --Vega--
People of all ages should be able to play it. The only ones that shouldn't be able to play GTA IV or any other GTA are the real influencial and gulliable people who will sit there and play the game like it's them in real life, then go out and try to pull the sh*t in the game. How the hell can you police that? You can't. Hence the reason for the age classification.
RONIN1191
I think these damn kids get enough as it is- so I'm with 18+. Hell, its not like you have to pay for food, clothing, housing, schooling or gaming- you get everything handed to you. Go do your homework and then go outside to play with your friends. I'm hoggin the tv anyways. LOL
[MenaceMovies]
I thought GTA:IV was already 18+! Nevermind the kids who play it under the age of 18, if they end up killing someone it's their own fault (and their parents ofcourse) GTA:IV was recommended and should be playing by 18's and over. A bit offtopic: The thing I don't understand is. There's a game called Soldier Of Fortune: Payback, that game is rated 18+ and there is a big warning at the back of the cover. The 18+ age certificate was given only because there is real bad gore, when you shoot people their arms, legs and heads get torn off and you can see the blood and bones all sticking and gushing out. That game is a solider/army game, so it didn't feature sex or serious drug reference like GTA:IV does. I think that game should have a 15+ rating, not 18+. Horatio Humboldt
The way the logic works is if you're 17, you're an immature little sh*t, but at your 18th birthday you just transform into a mature adult. Nah sorry I think it's flawed. Yes it is flawed but it's the best system we can come up with. Ratings are generally based on the things that the particular country finds offensive. (As a games tester I have to look out for this kind of stuff), one example is Nazi references... big no-no in Germany, pretty much fine everywhere else. A less extreme example is blasphemy, generally no problem using it in the UK, a bigger problem in Italy where it is more of a taboo. Age restrictions generalise, and generalise on the side of caution. The age of consent in the UK is 16, that doesn't mean that a 15 year old is not mature enough to make that decision in real life, it means that MOST 15 year olds arn't. It's there to protect those individuals and the rest of us who get pissed off when another 14 year old goes on a rampage and GTA gets the blame. I hate any form of censorship as I regard myself as a (fairly) rational adult but I do think restrictions are important for minors.

Boy that was way bloody and violent. I played it on my Windows 98 computer my parents bought when I was about 4 or 5. I played GTA 1 when I was about 6 then I forgot all about it since I was busy playing Twisted Metal and Carmageddon. In 2001 a guy I know had a copy of GTA 3 laying around and let me take it home install it and play it. I remembered the game play and Realized what I had played and almost fell in love. I was about 9 at the time. After completing the story I waited a few years then when my parents wanted me off the computer they offered me a PS2 with a game of my choice. I had them get the GTA Double pack. I loved Vice City for it's 80's feel and loved the music. When I was 12 GTA SA came out and I had been watching G4 TV all day. I begged my mom to let me go out and by it. We rushed up the hill to our local Walmart and picked up a copy. I like the game a lot and the story was improved a little. Now here is 2008 I have my parents pick up GTA IV with me. I paid all 90 of my own money. My parents have watched my play the game in the past. They know what is in there. I am now on a 2 month period of GTA IV and for the last almost 10 years I've been a GTA fan. I am 15 going on 16 this September. I get A's and B's. I have never gotten into a fight. I have never wanted to do drugs or drink. I do not curse out my parents. I have handled a gun before but I've never tried to shoot anything more then a clay pigeon. I won't even go hunting. I've liked girls since I was in 1st grade. I never had a friend until 8th grade. I have played an Atari! 15 and I have had as much life experience as about a 20 year old. Now try and tell me that I am not mature enough to play this game.

Mr. Someguy
I hope you know that if the game was 18+, it would be banned almost everywhere. It'd be a bitch just to find a copy.
The Kirbster
It doesn't really matter...17+ and 18+ isn't that big of a difference. Besides, I saw a 9 year old at GameStop get GTA IV, and my bro's friend (also 9) owns GTA IV too.
Horatio Humboldt
Guys (younger than 18) It's not you that are the problem. Because you like the game so much that you want to chat about it. Its the over 18 s who type 'fkm gr8 w8Sd a hor' that i worry about. But you will miss references, not because you are stupid but because yot wernt there. You will be having similar convesations in a few years. So, underage but sensible, peaceful players. I salute you.
Starion
Do think GTA Shuold be a 18+ game? Do you think people should let under 18's have the game? Do you think it makes them turn in to bad people? (eg want to carry knives, guns, drugs etc...) What do you think to these questions I got 1 of my mates telling me it should be band coz of kids getting the game but I don't thinks it's bad on kids as long as they reailise the differance between the game. I was about 8 Ithink well it was primary school when I 1st went on the 1st GTA Blooody hell, this exact topic was made just 5 hours before. Either way, I'll repost what I posted in that topic: No, I think the laws should stand as they are as far as selling video games is concerned. For example, I am 15. I waited in line, at midnight with my dad on launch night, when we bought it, I gave my dad my pre-order slip, and he bought it with my money. I've been playing the game quite a lot, and it has had no bad or corrupting effect on me whatsoever. I have also played Grand Theft Auto 2 and 1 before I was 10, and to be honest, I'm not a psychopath. The game may have different effects on different people other than me, but some foods and drinks have different effects on different people, it doesn't mean the food should become unsellable to certain people. So in other words, the laws are fine as they stand, and should not be changed. Also, if the laws were tightened there's nothing stopping people in this day and age buying the game from the internet.. So yeah, it would be pointless anyway, and it would also mean that shops would get a drop in sales, a small drop in sales but a drop nonetheless. I will admit though, I do think that parents shouldn't let their kids play certain games online until they're.. I dunno, 13/14 or whatever, because a lot of young people do act like total assholes when playing online, teamkilling, swearing, shouting, insulting players, etc. It's especially annoying in games in GTA when a slightly more mature group of people is playing and some annoying 11 year old ruins it for everyone completely. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. gregguy
I had GTA Vice City when I was 8. I'm 14 and have GTAIV. I never do sh*t like carry knives and NEVER want to do drugs and I don't know why GTA games do this to people. The only thing I do game-related is download their sick soundtrack and sing songs from the game in the shower, or copy a few jokes from the game. I think people say that they after killed somebody/ran from cops in real life, they use GTA as an excuse
