ALabamaGamer
Dang it. I tried to resist this topic but it lured me in anyway.... I'm a 24 year old childless woman. And let me tell you if I had a little brother/sister or a son/daughter they would be playing Mario and Pokemon until they were 16. No joke. I firmly believe in letting a child be a child. A 10 year old has no business whatsoever playing this adult content game. It doesn't matter if he knows whats happening in the game is wrong, that doesn't mean he won't try to imitate it at one point or another. Parents need to be parents and not friends. chikit134
15 but honestly jack thompson should go after the psychos that actually think they are in the game and go on killing people and not us who actually play the game without having a psychic flipover. Amen Oh and I have been playing GTA since I was 9 and I turned out fine so f*ck you Jack and get the f*ck out of my face
chitoryu12
So, what about me? Am I an anomaly because I haven't so much as punched a guy in the jaw yet, despite having played since I was in elementary school? You're practically the definition of overprotective, and have an inability to see any actual facts that get in the way. Let's break this down a bit. And let me tell you if I had a little brother/sister or a son/daughter they would be playing Mario and Pokemon until they were 16. Pointless. For one, they would get plenty of sex and violence just going to middle school. Unless you plan to homeschool them, in which case they're going to be severely lacking in social skills. If, in fact, you manage to keep them sheltered from any sex and violence until high school, they're going to be completely inept and extraordinarily immature when dealing with 99.99% of their peers. I firmly believe in letting a child be a child. Terrible wording. If we're not "letting a child be a child", that would mean that we're forcing them to mature quickly instead of letting them naturally progress. In fact, you're doing the vice versa of your philosophy by not letting a human be a human. A 10 year old has no business whatsoever playing this adult content game. Why? Is it because he's 10, or because he will consistently imitate everything in the game, no matter how he's been taught or explained? Why is it, then, that when I look at everyone up to the age of 10 who has played violent games, the only ones that have behavioral problems stemming from it had already-existing medical conditions, such as ADHD, or had parents who never explained the difference between fact and fiction and let them find it on their own? I had it explained to me at a very young age. That's why I've spent the past 10 years playing T and M-rated games without trying to shoot everyone in sight. It doesn't matter if he knows whats happening in the game is wrong, that doesn't mean he won't try to imitate it at one point or another. I would like to see some proof that a child has no mind of his own, no conscience, and no ability to discern right from wrong. Parents need to be parents and not friends. Why? When a parent acts as a friend to their child, their child is more keen to listen to them. There's a reason peer pressure works so well: People will listen to their friends more easily than they will listen to some guy on the street. If we follow that logically, why would a parent who tries to be a friend to their child be inept?

It doesn't matter if he knows whats happening in the game is wrong, that doesn't mean he won't try to imitate it at one point or another. Thats not true! As long as the child is actually smart enough to know whats right and whats wrong then he is okay playing it but only a dumb guy would try to imitate it. lol more than half of the people I've read here is under 18 but I'm sure no one has done something wrong here. I think GTA actually teaches some people self defense. lol
ALabamaGamer
Everyone has their opinion. I have mine and you all have yours. Period. Oh and for the record...when I said "imitate" I did not necessarily mean going out welding a gun, I meant more along the lines of picking up the foul language. uat2d
The game is rated M for MATURE by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, which means 17 years or older. Those ratings are only made to keep extremists-conservators assholes like Jack Thompson calmer. If a game is cool and doesn't affect me, should I don't play it because of an wacky guy in Thailand killed a taxi-driver? Are you now going to tell me that just because I am not 17 that I am stupid, that I don't know the difference from reality and fiction and that i shouldn't play GTA? Everyone has their opinion. I have mine and you all have yours. Period. Oh and for the record...when I said "imitate" I did not necessarily mean going out welding a gun, I meant more along the lines of picking up the foul language. Foul language isn't taught in video games, but in school and other places. If someone only heard foul language in games, I beat he wouldn't be saying it to other people, UNLESS other people also said it. When I say "f*ck", a kitten does not die. It does not change the world in any way, shape or form, unless of course you subscribe to the Chaos Theory. And you still haven't tried to defend your position at all, which is totally illogical and, to be quite frank, f*cking ridiculous.

Keith Ward
I think you have to be at LEAST 16 and up to fully appreaciate the GTA games, with a vast understanding of film, music and popular culture. Then the GTA "experience" can truly be appreciated. THAT'S what people don't understand about the games. And THAT'S why the GTA series can kick any other game series out of the sandbox. By the way, I'm 65 and you little kiddies are making my mouth water...

ElBarto3131
The game is rated M for MATURE by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, which means 17 years or older. Mature doesn't mean that you're 17 or older. Read a damn dictionary! Mature means that you aren't a complete dick. And you understand that THIS IS A f*ckING GAME! And the ESRB, it's just a recommendation as I heard in the past. But now it's basically the law, as Jack-off Thompson says. So send me to Jail idk. And finally those idiots who say "Wells I killz him cauze GTAS made me does it, yo." Just want to get into less trouble because GTA is hated by every politician, government worker, law enforcement on the face of the planet. And "Thre's proof in the past that this happens!" as they say, so that they can get into less trouble then they would normally would. Oh and BTW I'm 13, and I've played GTA since about 10. And I've never killed someone, stole a car, etc. etc. And btw are you Jack Thompson or a friend of Jack Thompson?

Gabriel Constantin
I'm 18, but I was first introduced to GTA in 1997 when the original Grand Theft Auto came out. I then rented (but never returned) GTA 2 about three or four years later. Then I got given GTA 3 for Christmas 2002 (even though I asked for Vice City ). Okay, let's set the record straight here: 1. You say something that basically shows that you're overprotective and have as much idea about how to raise kids as a gnat. 2. I refute most of what you say and ask for you to support the rest. 3. You say that, having only stated an opinion, you are under no requirements to address criticism. It is similar to a conspiracy theorist refusing to provide evidence for his wild theories on aliens and chemtrails. Both have about as much merit in the real world and have as much evidence supporting them. 4. I ask again for any proof that you're not a braindead twit. 5. You repeat #3. Tell me again how this logically works out?

I started this because I get 1 of my mates saying how bad the game is all the usual and how kids get hold of the game but I think he was right about the underage bit. Still its a great game and who cares if they get hold of it it's the parents not me. I'm 15, and I like pedophiles

(My cousin was over, parents didn't know I was playing) Then I got San Andreas when I was 9 and a half. I didn't know what anything meant then. I was like "Hey look a cherry poppers ice cream truck" But yeah, honestly, only a dumbsh*t would think doing GTA style stuff is cool and try it out.
