ItWasntMe
Its not about pre-pubescent teens squeaking away on XBL, its the 8 year old kids whos voices are no where near breaking that shouldn't be playing this game in this way. I'm confused as to why you think its just because people'es voices haven't broken that we are having a go?

AdZ767
Im 28 and i have a younger sister who turns 15 this weekend, we both have our own copies and play online from time to time together...but she wont play online unless im on aswell though, cuz there are to many pervs out there. people play these games but they don't expect minors to play it, and calling people perves just because they play these games is hypocrite, what are you then ?? To be honest, he isn't being a hypocrite. He is just saying that people tend to be very letchy when they find out there is a 'girl' (that mythical creature in computer games) playing their game. They instantly think they ave a connection with her, and plague them like mad... Its the same with Halo, you find a girl on that and all the guys act like little dogs on heat. Its terrible, and not hypocritical at all... And not all guys are like this, but there are a lot of weirdos too... Thank you ItWasntMe for explaining, you are indeed spot on there. DZorro, my sister is not a minor, she is a mature teenager and considering the way people sometimes hassle girls online she doesnt apperciate it, simple as. Maybe me calling them pervs was abit harsh as not everyone is so i apologise, however, it doesnt change the fact there are many people out there who hassle girl gamers which, unless your a girl & have experienced harrasment first hand (or seen it) you wouldnt know how it affects some of them. When it comes down to it, minors will still play these games regardless what you preach & theres nothing you can do to stop them, myself as a player i take responsibility to ensure our games are always private so only people i know & trust will be present anyway. Problem solved.... Now, have a nice day.

ItWasntMe
I started around age 6 with the release of the first GTA. I'm 17 now. Thats pretty wrong of your parents to let you do that IMO. At 6, I assume a lot of the content was lost on you, which is only a good thing, as that game had some VERY controversial content in at times. But like I said it was a lot more 'fun' orientated... Almost as if it was designed for kids... But thats where (and excuse me for going slightly off topic here) the divide between the real hardcore GTa fans who understand what R* have done with IV and the slightly less initiated who seem to think that IV is all about fingerless gloves and pimping your ride. The younger or less experienced players who complain about IV are a direct result of not understanding what GTa is all about in the first place. Now, playing it from the age of 6 does not convince me that anyone (not directly you) could grasp what R* are doing. And its here that the real problem occurs. IMO, IV is the most intelligent game in the series by far, and as such, has caused a lot of problems with people expecting GTA 4: San Andreas, or something of the like. Kids as young as 6 should not be playing THIS game. GTa 1? Ok, like I said, its like Micor Machines on Crack if you're 6. But IV was designed to appeal to the mature, hardened gamer, and still be accesible to newbies who think SA is the be all and end all of GTa. (Which it SO isn't). If you were 6 and telling me you were playing Iv now, I would probably feint, it would be totally irresponsible for parents to let their kids play this game at such a young age. ItWasntMe
I am over it. I really don't waste more than 5 mintues of the day thinking about it when I read topics like this. The point is its just a point of view, and if you actually can't see that it's wrong to let a 6 year old play this game then maybe the argument that computer games does create maladjusted youths with a jaded persepective on what is right and wrong just got some evidence... ItWasntMe
You're the [email protected] Just because you were allowed to play violent games at the age of 6 and have been accepted to some Whiskey factory does not mean that you are not maladjusted. Because it is wrong for kids to be exposed to that sort of thing unnecessarily. If you can't agree with that then you definately need to go back to school before going to uni. Bawjaws
I'm 24. I have been playig since the first GTa came out, which I guess made me about 14 when I first played the game. I can’t really criticise people in here for playing this version and being under 18, although I do feel, that the game is very different in terms of its relation to reality, than back in 1997 when the first game came out. The top-down madness of the first few GTas was, without a doubt a lot more ‘fun’ than the 3D, gritty versions we have seen, and resulting in, what I believe is one of the most comprehensive games out there. And therein lies the problem. The closer to reality a game gets, the more likely a certain individual is to be influenced by it, in some shape or form. Ultimately the fact that people may get a gun or carry a knife as a result of the game is a pretty pointless one, as there is so much out there these days to influence that decision besides grand theft auto, that the argument holds little credit. I believe that anyone who has disturbing ideas as a result of playing a GTa at whatever age has underlying mental issues, which have only been induced by the thought processes triggered while playing a violent game, or watching a violent show... That said, anyone under about 14 really shouldn’t be playing the game, as it does not allow them to develop a social perspective that is truly representative of real life. Flame me all you want kids, but its true. There are people too young to be playing the game... That guy who played with a 6 year old... OMG, I don’t believe it. That IS disgusting. I get your point. Thats what I asked myself too. I was young when I played GTA1 and thought:"Yeah, I cant say anything against young people, who play gta4" because I played GTA1 when I was underage. But I think it is dangerous the more the games become realistic the more young people could get on stupid ideas. I mean in GTA1 with bird perspective it was clear it is absolutly a game. But now? I think in the future when graphics become even more realistic there has to be some protection that no young people can play these games. I was eleven when i played the original in 1997, but i agree with you totaly that the first game was a lot different from the game we have now in terms of reality. Although with saying that i still wouldnt argue a player shouldnt be playing because of their age, simply because i would be a hypocrite if i did. However one of the major differences was when i was playing back then i didnt petition to R* and tell them their how poor their game was because it didnt have the features i wanted in it. Thats the thing i cant get my head around. Otherwise id be quite happy to let the more mature kids play, it is afterall only a computer game.... just shut up about bloody haircuts and gloves! ItWasntMe
Why is this thread here? Well if for no other reason, it has confirmed the fact to me that parents these days are far too irresponsible. And helped me to understand the maturity level of some of the clientelle that frequent this forum. @ Bawjaws: I agree except I don't belive you can agree that 6 year olds should be playing a game like GTa IV. GTa 1 maybe, as I have said it was just micro machines on crack and a lot, if not all of the content would have been miles above the heads of the average 6 year old. GTa 4 however, blurs the boundaries and is far too realistic for a 6 year old to play. Edited June 4, 2008 by ItWasntMe
