Seriously Smelly
ill keep this brief Ive seen alot of people say that london for GTA would suck because the getaway sucked HELLO the getaway didnt suck because it was set in london, it sucked because the gameplay was broken, the cars handled like korean hookers, and there were ALOT of places u couldnt even get to.(invisible walls-last gen) also the getaways storyline was rather serious, and there was no funny moments at all. if R* made a london game it would be steriotypical and have that comedic flair. (think lock stock and two smoking barrels, or snatch). and now the GTA gunplay is more technical, i think it could be really good. and who doesnt love cockney accents? (besides smelly northerners) thanks for reading Edited June 3, 2008 by Seriously Smelly

--Vega--
No, It would suck cause it wouldn't be in the USA and we'd keep hearing English accents. It will never happen. The Getaway did suck real bad though.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
I agree, the argument that GTA in London would be anything like the Getaway is just f*cking stupid. The Getaway would still be sh*t even if it was set in Liberty City

Big_Mitch_Baker
Yes the Getaway sucked balls, and the London setting only made it worse... Where's the action? All the gangsters are Wankers and the cops don't even carry guns. Doesn't strike me as a good location for GTA style mayhem, that's why the old 2D GTA London sucked balls as well. Sanctus Fortis
I think it's a possibility but probably not till the end of the GTA IV Series. I think the GTA series fits in to America better than it would to London anyway, as long as the city it's based in is interesting anyway. Still, if GTA London did come out again, I would definately buy it.

knobby
If it were a good game, it should do well wherever it's based. I don't get the insular attitude that if the game isn't based in the USA then people wouldn't buy it, how childish is that. We all have our own preferences, but it's the gameplay that counts. And, if it was based elsewhere, it could give some Americans the chance of 'visiting' a foreign country. And it's time to take the piss out of another country. (perfect for GTA imo) and the cops do carry guns, BIGGER guns even. i dont really care where they set it, i just dont like it when ppl bring up the getaway
scubakid
Also, the getaway created an accurate representation of London. Remember, if GTA was set in 'London' it wouldn't be replicated, it would just have the main attractions of London. The getaway was bad because of the poor city design, Rockstar are masters at good level design, and so their representation of London would work. For those talking about hoe the English accent would get on your nerves, that's just bs. Think about it you're not going to have the steretypical 'oh bloody good game chaps' accent often, just like Packie, Francis and the McRearies don't talk in an overly Irish fashion, because it would maybe get irritating to some. So anyone who argues the voices would be annoying, they wouldn't be any more annoying that the voices of past GTA characters, which have never been annoying. Even Tommy and CJ didn't have typical American accents. Think about it!... It would work, but whether ot not it's what Rockstar are planning is another question. As for The Getaway, to say The Getaway sucks and so GTA in London would suck is a completely pointless argument to make. It makes no sense, since GTA has always been superior in every aspect including the important ones here, City/Level Design and Gameplay! I think the GTA series fits in to America better than it would to London anyway You can't really make that argument because there hasn't been a GTA London (in the 'new' GTAs SA, VC, III, IV) so you don't know really. Don't mean to be a [email protected] or anything, I just mean if GTA London was to be made, the humour may well fit better, since there hasn't been one we don't know. (you can't really count GTA2London because it just isn't the same) Edited June 3, 2008 by scubakid

sananoutlaw
(think lock stop and two smoking barrels, or snatch). it's 'Lock, stock and two smoking barrels' I would like to see a GTA style London done sometime, it's a big world famous capital city and lets not forget the Brits renowned sense of humour. And to those complaining about accents, just be glad 'GTA: Belfast' is highly unlikely @ Mzeppelin; Yeah, we would hear English accents obviously, but everyone else has had to put up with american accents for most of GTA. Edit: Also, do some of you REALLY think R* couldn't pull it off with GTA because the getaway was crap? Edited June 3, 2008 by sananoutlaw

Raven_Nytez
Could be worse, could be GTA:London set in Victorian times & you're some kind of Jack the Ripper type character? Hmm.. Think I might TM or © that one & make it myself oneday, haha.. (Yeah right..) I don't get the english accent hate? You guys do know that the ones portrayed in the media are either extremely posh & hoity toity or extremely cockney, right? I don't sound like that.. Do I? No Crime in London.....I wish! every morning it seems I am waking up to the news of another kid being killed in London. Most police don't carry guns in general, but in certain areas they are very heavily armed. It's not unusual to see a cop with an assault rifle or SMG in places like train staitons and airports. Next time you come to London and see someone who looks a bit gangster, call them a Wanker and see happens..
Raven_Nytez
Ah I can almost see the opening scene. A clean cut man (geezer) in a suit walking out of an airport, walking to a taxi, knocking on the window & saying "Ya'll right guv'nar? Do I sound lyke I'm fram Laandan? I work daan the maarket sellin' apples'n'pairs!" ... "Nah, mate nah, Fruit, not stairs! Safe! Safe!" Or.. Could be set well away from the "Gangster" scene & have it based around skinny little hooligans who hang around bus stops drinking Bacardi Breezers & pretending to be black? Hurrah for stealing Ford Escorts & mopeds, & hurrah for being able to "lay low at'ya muvva's"

Guanxi
I'd say going on past record a contemporary setting is unlikely to follow; as this period/era in time (cultural lexicon, e.g. election/recession/blogging/pop culture/social networking, etc) has largely been done in GTA IV... in the united states at least. Which leaves me to believe there are a only fairly limited number of options: 1. No other city to follow this generation: Dan Houser said in an interview fairly recently that they have no plans to immediately followup GTA4. Maybe they will just expand the experience with content downloads and a Vice City GTA V will eventually follow on the next generation of hardware. 2. Another "Period" era in an American setting. (1) 80's Miami again, (2) 60/70 counter-culture San Fransisco/LA or Washington D.C., (3) Mowtown, (4) Prohibition-era Chicago, (5) Formative-era Las Vegas, (6) 60's Hawaii, (7) Near-future Dystopia, (8) 90's LA again. 3. 1960's London, as this is not really an era for London. 4. Completely and totally unpredictable non english speaking country.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
I think a near future, one again would be awesome. You wouldn't want flying cars and laser guns but the city would look awesome with that kind of Bladerunner feel to it

WolfenVic
I don't see GTA London happening. I do see GTA Monarchy City tho. Why would Rockstar break the tradition of putting games in cities based on cities? Why would you want a GTA London? I mean really! All those bad roads. Let Rockstar make up their own city based on London if they do that.
