Horatio Humboldt
OK, loads of bad comments about GTA4 lately so I thought I'd be a bit more positive. Just recently got access to the choppers and landed on the roof of a VERY tall building (not sure which one, it wasn't Rotterdam). I jumped onto the wall around the edge of the building and looked over the edge and it actually made me feel vertigo! The effect is awesome. Nice one GTA4, no game has ever managed to capture my fear of heights in a game before. (I love hights at speed-rollercoasters, planes etc but hate heights at slow speeds-Ferris wheels, tall buildings etc).

My stomach drops every time i go up that window cleaner. *gulp* But i still love it makes me feel pretty damn vertigo indeed and i feel the exact same way on heights. just cause gave me a real sense of height but IV managed to capture it for me a bit more. hehe Edited June 3, 2008 by SaintJimmy

ericwells7777
I have to admit, The first time I was on top of the tallest building I was leaning over to see if I could "snipe" people dowwn on the ground and I pushed the controller a little to far and it was the first time in a game when I was like "OH SH*T!!!" when I started to fall it freaked me out a little.....that is a badass feeling to get from a video game....kudos to R*!!!! --Vega--
It makes me kinda nervous too. San Andreas never did that, but I still think SA is a better game.
tarquin biscuitbarrel
i'm not afraid of heights, but the game does make me knees feel funny. sorta like the same feeling you get in a dream when you plummet from a great height and buckle your kneecaps. jonstunt
IRL When you're in a car and you go fast over a hump back bridge and you get that funny feeling in your nutsack, that's what it feels like looking over the edge of a skyscaper inGTA4

GTA3Freak-2001
I would say the reason you get a good sense of height is the fish-eye view the camera gives when you look down or up.

GTA3Freak-2001
Looking up at the city from the back of a cab is great, especially in Alongonquin with that effect.
Lil' Red
lmfao how the hell is this possible? I feel nothing when I go up the window washing sh*t... except extremely bored because it takes forever. lmfao I bet yall would freak the f*ck out on some baboon-orangutan sh*t if you fly on a big ass airplane. KillerKabel
I never got that feeling? What about when you fall from a chopper? Do you get it then? Another great thing about GTA IV, is when you're going down a street, very fast, an then hit a little curve thingy, and you bust out the windshield, falling 500 feet, landing very hard. Waiting 3 seconds, then getting back up like nothing happened and hail a cab.
tarquin biscuitbarrel
i think it's more than the graphics. it's also effected by how much you've tied yourself to niko, you can easily put yourself in niko's shoes and get dragged into the story - which means you sometimes feel niko's emotions. you didn't get this type of immersion in past gta games. I would get the same feeling in SA, especially driving really fast through the hills in downtown San Fierro, that I get when I drive really fast or almost run over the edge of a tall building in IV. It doesn't have anything to do with Niko -- the same thing happens in multiplayer, and the only things I ever hear that character say is "what's poppin playa?"
