Dr.Drunk
Hi everyone. First of all, i'm new here, and i hope the community can help me around, and that i can help you guys. Anyway... I bought a leggit version of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas yesterday because my Xbox destroyed the old ones. All games seem to run alright except for this one thing. In San Andreas when there's rain or a thunderstorm all the sound except the radio and the actual rain suddenly drop out. Sometimes when the rain is over they don't even come back anymore untill i restart the game. Sound seems to drop out eventually if I play for a while too. I've tried pretty much all the fixes in the collection of audio fixes, but none of them really seem to make it any better. (except the basic acceleration level, but that causes an extreme decrease in quality as well as crackling in the background.) My specs are as follows: Intel Pentium 4 3GHZ (dual core) 2048MB RAM Directx 9.0c (ask if you need more info, i'm a little lazy when it comes to that. Sound: Realtek HD Audio card (rear output) Latest drivers as well as extra one. (5.10.0) Logitech Suround System WDM tech drives. My copy of the game is bought legally and is version 2.0, so no missing files or viruses and the like because of downloading. Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance. Bad~Boy#17
Try deleting the gta_sa.set file located in My Documents / GTA San Andreas User Files Also go to Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Sound and then change the Hardware sound acceleration level to No, Basic, Standard or Full. This is a trial or error method

Zera
Google for a mod named RealFX by Gunmod. There's a modified version of the eax.dll there that fixes the rain sound bug. Alternatively, download an older version of eax.dll (3.0.6.5 or 3.0.6.6). As a last resort if neither of the above works, turn down the sound acceleration bar in the DirectX controls (Start > Run > dxdiag).
Dr.Drunk
That mod you reccomended doesn't seem to work for me. (at all) Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Do I need to do anything other then just unpack the files into my GTA:SA folder? Or perhaps it doesn't work with version 2.0. Doesn't mention any of that in the readme though. Also, I know about the hardware acceleration thing. Problem is that when I do that, I get horrible de-syncing as well as scratchy sound. Is there no other way to fix this? Rockstar really should patch this. (good this time since they said that did in 1.01) Anyway, thanks for the tips, more tips would be appreciated since it didn't fix it yet. And just a question about compatibility mode... I know how it works, but I'm just wondering... Wouldn't that cause instability or lack of some functions or something? Dr.Drunk
I gave that a try Bad Boy, didn't help for me sorry. I'm gonna try re-installing today and then run the game in 98/me compatability, see if that helps. Wish me luck. Edit: Okay i tried the above, and guess what? The sound still cuts out! My god this bug is driving me nuts.... Seems like the only thing that really works to stop the sound cutting out is basic acceleration in DXdiag. But that just messes up the quality of audio... Geuss I'm still stuck with the crackling sounds and de-sync problems.... Oh well, i hope they patch this up soon. And thanks for all the tips guys.
