Gang members' ability to do drive-bys?

So I was trying to complete VCS 100% , and I decided to go take over some empires, I recruited some gang members holding SMGs (I can't find any holding AKs ) Jacked a Polaris V8 and drove to a empire owned by the bikers and suddenly my gang members were shooting at the bikers (I tried it before, and it wasn't possible). I paused the game and looked at my stats, percentage completed: 53.4%. I loaded up another save game which has 49.7% completed, I did the same thing but they didn't shoot. I loaded up another save game which has 51.3% and my gang members shot at the enemy gang. So I think that if you completed VCS at least 50%, your gang members will shoot at enemy gangs (correct me if I'm wrong). Too bad they can't shoot at cops

I think they'll always shoot at rival gang members (?)

 

Try recruiting some and then start a rampage.

Unfortunately their kills doesn't count, but they do offer some distraction for large groups of enemies.

Pretty simple.

Are you referring to on foot or in a car? I did a rampage at the construction site in downtown, you have to crush 15 bikers in 2 minutes. They got into the car and when I drove past some bikers, they didn't shoot That goes for the same for my 53.4% save game.

I'm telling you... There hasn't been a single GTA game (except now in GTA IV) in which gang members or yourself could do drive-by's without an SMG.

 

But hey if you don't want to believe me, no problem.

Gang members in San Andreas can drive-by with pistols as well and if you mod the stats such as their weapons then they'll drive-by with that weapon too, example: minigun.

Oops forgot about San Andreas there.

 

But I'm right about VCS I think... At least I never had any trouble with gangmembers doing drive-by's and I always pick those with an SMG.

Sorry. What I meant was when you have completed the game at least 50%, then your gang members can do drive-bys using SMGs.
