My peeve is that the game sort of forces you to take an m16 instead being "the better gun". I'm constantly choosing between style and substance. any others have this moment too? P.S. In real life, both weapons have their pros and cons. AK-47 has better stopping power and it doesn't jam, but it isn't accurate and is heavy M4A1 (the 1 that's in the game, not M16) is more accurate and lighter, but constantly jams and isn't as powerful. If I never needed an assault rifle IRL and my options where a M4 or a AK I'd go with the AK all the time, simply becuase they have a reputation for being one of the most reliable AR in the world. 7.62 hiberNative Posted June 3, 2008 Share Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) people, as a weapon freak i cna tell you this: you need to realize that in real life, you can't compare the old ak47 to the m4. the current issued weapons are the ak74m, chambering 5.45x39 rounds (as compared to the m16 and m4's 5.56x45). the new russian caliber performs great and is now their standard round (read more here) also, they export ak rifles in the same nato caliber as the m4 (ak101, 102 and 108) but also in the classic 7.62x39 caliber (ak103). you really can't just say "ak" and talk about the 47 model cause the system is so versatile. in this game, tho. they seem to have taken the ak47's higher recoil into account and made the m4 a bit more accurate. they both play great, but i like the look of the ak better. i do wish that they'd stop this frenzy with ak47 and add some newer ak models into games. play COD4... its much more realistic in terms of "gun shooting" realistic ballistics in cod4? you are a retard. the weapons look realistic, but that's it. There's a vid on you tube were they test the two guns side by side by shooting cement blocks, the M16 (ok, so it's not the same gun in GTA but it's close enough.) makes a hefty dent in the bock but the AK blows some dirty great hole in it embeding it's bullet. In GTA I use the.. 'not the AK' one as I'm just going through the story & they seem to be pushing it alot more so I get more ammo. But been 'in love' shall we say with the AK since the days of Vietcong as it held more ammo & had a better sound than the M16 in that game. Hey, I didn't read the replies first so i don't know if anyone have pointed this out for you. There is no M16 in the game, it looks moore like a M4 carbine. You are probably right that real AKs are better, cos in the game they have very short range. By my mind. But more reliable and easier to clean i dont know if real ones are better. tarquin biscuitbarrel Posted June 3, 2008 Share Posted June 3, 2008 in real life the m4 operates at 100% after being submerged in water/sand, same as the AK47. the thing about AK's is they're so simple, you could probably fix a broken one with some underpants elastic, mcgyver style. but in game, i really haven't noticed any difference between them. same damage, same rate of fire, same clip size... i use both of them. <3 rockstar for letting the rifle ammo count for both weapons so i can switch whenever i feel like it without having to buy ammo 100 times. AK-47 isn't the best assault rifle in the world, it is the best assault rifle you can get for the small amount of money it costs, mainly due to the immense surplus of AK47s after the World Wars. The AK47 and the M16 (sticking with the M16 for now) are two completely different guns that were designed for two completely different things. The AK47 was supposed to be an easy to maintain, reliable, easy to produce, sizable weapon. It was designed with loose tolerances (had mass production in mind) which reduces any chances of a jam but also sacrifices accuracy. It was designed in Russia, it needed to be able to operate in some sever weather conditions. It fired a lot of rounds fast and inaccurately, making it a more effective weapon in a close quarters combat situation. The M16 was designed to be lightweight, it needed to weigh something like 11 pounds when fully loaded. It was a space age technology weapon, with the lightweight polymers that were used to create the gun. Its tolerances were tight, resulting in an extremely accurate weapon. This is also increased the chances of a jam, less room for things to move in. It was designed in America, it wasn't anticipated to be put through jungle warfare. The jungle climate coupled with the fact that the soldiers weren't issued the correct cleaning kits for the weapons is what attributed to all the jams. They each perform differently in different environments and scenarios. AK47 for some up close and personal swiss cheesing and the M16 for some long range head popping.
