I'm a hardcore Free Mode lover. I absolutely can not get enough of Free Mode, and I most certainly can't seem to get enough people willing to have a lot of genuine, creative fun in the game engine itself. Normally, everyone will be speeding passed each other in their Banshees and SuperGTs, shooting out each other's tires and windows. Then, along comes myself... slowly trotting behind them in my Airport "Golf Cart" that I drove all the way back for the simple sake of a laugh.

Perhaps I'll slowly stalk an unsuspecting driver in an LCPD squad car, suddenly blare my sirens, and hollar over the microphone, "Sir, I'm sorry but you're going to have to pull over your vehicle." I actually did so earlier today, and the guy actually pulled over to the side of the road! I approached his window, bent down, and asked him, "Son, do you know why I pulled you over?"

He replied slyly, "Why no! I surely do not, Mr. Officer."

I continued, "Well, contrary to popular belief, running over old ladies is most certainly not a sign of safe driving. I'll need to see your license and regis--"

Before I could finish, he burst into a slur of police force racism and shot off into the distance in his beat up, but snazzily pimped out ride. I began chasing him down, and soon, other players joined in the hot pursuit in their own squad cars, and soon enough, the whole server was having an interesting match of hilarious roleplaying about completely incompetent policemen who could not seem to catch a single guy.

This is the kind of Free Mode experiences that I love more than anything. When creative minds and great senses of humor come together, very hilarious escapades and adventures ensue - some of which may be remembered for a very long time. It is my hope that some of you might find this type of gameplay interesting. I ask, because I wonder if there are enough people out there who enjoy playing this way for an actual regular gathering to occur over Xbox Live (or PSN if PS3 owners would like to organize it).

I'm very interested in not only playing this way, but also recording the happenings with my capture card and releasing it for public view on places like YouTube so we can share our creativity with an audience.

Improv eliminates the need for a script, and if the dialogue is funny enough, our lack of proper camera shots will be more than made up for. Some of the funniest clips come from half-assed machinimation, and the reason they are so funny is because these low-end productions are almost always far more successful than productions that have extensive pre-production poured into it. The sole reason being that when you have such an easy-going and fun way of creating something, things flow a lot more smoothly.

Anyway, I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion on basic roleplaying or "improv" is in GTA IV Free Mode.

I think it's a great idea, but it's too bad there are so many people who treat Free Mode like deathmatch and just instinctively kill each other. One of my favourite moments in multiplayer was when my friend was in a helicopter over Star Junction getting shot by a bunch of guys on the ground and I turned up in my annihilator, zooming down the "trench" which the tall buildings in Algonquin form. I screamed "YEEEEHAAAAAW!" as i somehow managed to shoot down a couple of the attackers with that crappy gun, and then flew away again saying "Ok kid, you're all clear, now let's blow this thing and go home!" Everyone in the match after that just started getting themselves into situations where they could appropriately quote Han Solo, eg. "Great kid, don't get cocky." and saying "Boring conversation anyway" when you kill someone.

That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

A few nights ago, myself and another player went to a local Burger Shot and actually sat down at a booth (took a lot of slight movement to actually sit down flat on the booth itself, lol), and started complaining about the service and threatening to take our business to a more higher-class place like Cluckin' Bell! Those managers learned their lesson alright. At least, I think they did.

I really wish that i could find some people like that who just generally want to mess about in Free Mode rather than going around getting RPGs and trying to kill people like it's a Deathmatch.

This is the sort of stuff that I love, but it seems that most people I come across in Free Mode seriously lack a sense of humor.

Pretty funny stuff.

No one has a sense of humor anymore it seems, all they want to do is fight.. now Deathmatch is just 2 clicks away, so go there with the killing.

Add me on Xbox, Jspot, if you ever want to get a game going. I'll be on more now that school is finally out.

This is good. This feels more like what Free Mode was made for.I was thinking about some things where the players band together when the cops come after them all,and they all get in one area and sort of barricade it.Then after awhile there appear to be too many cops for them to handle, and they need to get out of there. One guy would be like "Okay, you guys go...I'll say back and...hold them off."Then everyone else gets into cars as he charges into the line of fire...And gets killed immediately.

It sucks how I can't have xbox live at the moment...I won't have it for awhile.

I would seriously have loved to be in that match, i'm a massive star wars fan (ask me something about it and i could pretty much answer it straight away) but if i was to do that in a match any time people would probably call me weird....

I love improv, and I love getting into situations like that online. I'd be more than willing to join in, either to record something or just for fun. My gamertag is nbond99, add me please.

EDIT:

the roleplaying server is that  way ----------->
Thanks for pointing me in the wrong direction biggrin.gif. I'm not suggesting roleplaying. "Roleplaying", of course, entails you playing an actual role in a supposed story usually relating to the game's background itself. I'm not interested in roleplaying due to its serious and rather unimaginative nature. I am using the word "improv", becuase I feel that it is a lot different, and suits what I'm asking more accurately.

Improv in the example of driving straight into a Burgershot with a diesel truck and frantically trying to find the driv-thru. Clearly, if he does not find the driv-thru in time, and order a Heart Stopper, then he will surely die a fate most gruesome! Or, a guy stands at a hot dog stand and is paranoid that people are going to steal his hot dogs, so when anyone comes even remotely close, he flips the hell out, overprotective of his precious little oscar meyer weiners!

Dumb examples, but you get the point, I hope.

Sounds a little bit like Cops and Robbers game but in Free Mode. I wish people woud devise a plan to do this when i am on. Of coure i don't own a headset so i can't put something like that in the air yet. Sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Of course most of the ppl i play with just come up to you and shoot you, or chase your ass down relentlesslly. Amazingly yesterday this one guy just followed me around in a helicopter and DIDN'T shoot off an entire round. Pretty rare for that to happen to me and i am usually a happy go lucky player in Free Mode unless you mess with me.

I seriously hate free mode..

..when its full of idiots killing you, and you ask them not too, but they dont seem to listen.

Yes its free mode because you get to do what you want, but surely if you want to kill people you'd bloody do deathmatch.

ah well.

Im up for this, seems fun, nothing beats a free mode without any shooting much!

I hate how people, go and stay on free mode matches where AA and FF is on. But when i set up a match where AA and FF is on and the Police is on, no one seems to stay, so i just end up trying to get to the 'beating heart'.

Im dissappointed. bored.gif

I have an idea, there should be like 16 people in the airport parking lot , and someone should be playing that tokyo drift song while evryone is drifting.
