DLC ruined the game

I like the game. It's loads of fun. I hate people who spam the forums with "ZOMGZORZ R* IS OOBER NOOB 4 MAK TIHS GAM IT LYK SUK" because it doesn't suck. But I feel that some of the small, yet incredibly enjoyable, features (like parachutes or remote explosives) were left out on purpose because R* wanted to make us spend $20 on them later.

See, R* could have put these simple features in the game as easily as they put in the sprinting feature. But instead, those corporate assholes had a meeting and said "Hey! If we put those features in initially, that will make way too many people happy, way too easily. How bout we just make everyone pay an extra $20 for those features later?"

So that is how online downloadable content is f*cking up video games today. Playing online with other people is a good feature, and buying new content for games is a good feature too, but not if it is used in the way it was used for GTA4.

Welcome to current gen gaming. It only gets worse from here.

Wait until they start charging for patches.

Yep,

I agree much. It is a sad era to be in with next gen for this fact. We have the good (games much more advanced in all categories when they want to be then ever before) and the bad (money + dlc = revenue).

Oh well, it had to come sooner or later. Like ninja said, it's only going to get worst. If the market is there, then they will do this, despite how pissed off the community gets (market wins in business unfortunately).

Wow that's just evil.

Man this makes me think of the whole Battlefield Bad Company fiasco

PC gamers have had DLC, mods, patches and updates for years all for free. Next gen is the rape.

welcome to capitalism. we all complain about it but it's because of it that we have such high competition that develops such cool-ass sh*t (such as GTA IV). r*'s #1 objective is to make $ and the objective about how cool the gameplay is comes somewhere after that and, bitch all you want, but that very #1 objective is the reason the this game is as gorgeous as it is.

Well, let's be fair. That may not be their plan. They may have only made an average game by accident.

edit: I should add that this is an average game by GTA standards, which still makes it a better than average game. But by GTA standards, it's, well, standard.

wow, in what world is this just avg? it's not perfect but i'd disgustingly scoff at calling it average.

I wouldn't call it an "average" game. It's pretty kick-ass in my opinion. But I think it coulda been even better if there was no online marketplace for R* to take advantage of.

Fair enough, though I edited my post while you were typing yours.

edit: same with you Underscore, or however you had to spell that to make it your name.

but there is that online marketplace and this is the real world so the fact that it's taken advantage of is for very good reasons (though i don't exactly mean "morally" good)

Agreed. For a GTA game. It's good by industry standards, but when held up against inferior tech games in the series... it's well... standard.

It probably wouldn't have been much better. It would have taken advantage of it's pedigree and just been as good as it needed to be. They still would have probably saved extras for a 'sequel' that slowly added in features... the formula is really starting to take shape, where at first it seemed innovative and now it seems money-grubbing.

Yeah, I typed my first post faster than I should have.

And to Underscore, I know that's not your name, but considering how fast the flames were coming, I wanted to make my correction asap. No disrespect intended.

G MONEY $$$

Honestly, topics like this are utter sh*t. Do you know what's going to be in the DLC? No. So don't assume that features were taken out just so they could be sold as DLC. dozingoff.gif

To bring this convo back around to GTA, the dlc should be a chaser, in my opinion. Let's hope in this case it's more than that.

you claim "sh*t" topics then read them then complain about their existence? who is the real one in the wrong here...? you got your nickel's worth.

I gotta disagree. They wouldn't have saved the features like parachutes for the sequel, because they've already used parachutes in old GTA games. So even if they left it out of GTA4 so they could use it for the sequel, it still wouldn't be a new feature in the sequel. Besides, they never hesitated to cram in all the features they could into old GTA games. Before DLC, they always made sure the game had all the features a gamer could dream of the moment the game was released.

And to tatertotts: No offense taken, because my name is pretty much meant to be the word "underscore"

And to g money: If parachutes (or any other feature from the old GTA games, for that matter) are in the DLC when it comes out, you are going to look like such an a-hole rolleyes.gif But seriously, can you think of any good reason why R* would possibly want to leave out parachutes?

Does that imply that if feature ARE brought back then they were indeed cut out in order to be sold later?

That's what I thought about the name thing, but you know how people can be...

And drunken parachuting might have actually been a ton of fun...don't land there

I'm not sure I understand... you think features were left out to be sold back in DLC, but if there were no vehicle for DLC then all that content would have been in the original game at no extra profit?
