TFatseas Posted June 3, 2008 Share Posted June 3, 2008 THIS horrifying picture shows the moment a US man apparently drunk and asleep ploughed into cyclists on a bike race - killing one and injuring at least 10 others. Driver Juan Campos, 28, was charged with killing Alejandro Alvarez, 37, along the highway near the US-Mexico border. Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34km race yesterday between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas. Campos, who police claimed was drunk and asleep during the incident, said he was an American citizen living in Brownsville. The US Consulate could not immediately confirm that. "We are looking into the incident in terms of whether American citizens were involved," consulate spokesman Todd Huizinga said. Link Well, thats one hell of a way to end an race. Everyone turned to me to see what was so funny. edit: And if that is a mexican cop, I understand why Central America is becoming overrun by drug cartels and such. I saw the photo today in one of those free newspapers they give out at the train station. The carnage is quite... amazing really. I was surprised to read that only one person had died. And isn't it just amusing how people take their time taking photos instead of helping, which reminds me of the biggest/gayest boys fight i have witnessed, involving over 50 male teenagers fighting in the middle of a busy mall. Guess how many came to help end the fight? Uh, one security guard? Hell, I've watched over 8 people taking photos/filming it. And I, well, i just watched. I mean, sure the figures aren't quite 500k each, but pretty close in either direction. Anyway, yeah, I was bored enough to look up name statistics. Seriously though, I don't understand from the pictures how this happened. Were the bikers riding across the street or against traffic? For that matter, if they were riding against traffic, then what is the cop doing in the other lane. For the looks of things, it almost seems as if the driver was going 90 on some lonely stretch of high-way and was then teleported in front of the bike race.
