mista morino
Seasons were somewhat of an expectation before GTA4 came out. Now thinking about the next iterations of GTA, do you think we will see seasons changing dynamicaly ( by that I mean , leaves chaging colors then falling on the ground, same for snow with accumulations, and then sprouts appearing in the spring up to leaves fully growing ) on this generation of consoles or will we have to wait until the next generation ? mista morino
Here's an aspirine PinkLama , hope you feel better. But seriously, the situations that could happen with dynamic season change would be awesome. Imagine pulling off a bank job during a snow storm. Or escaping the cops on a frozen canal. joker249
Problem would be people crying about "realism". I'm at 50% with only 31 in-game days passed. So, I figure two months worth of in-game time to beat would not call for drastic season changes. Still, it would add for some interesting scenarios. Deuce Deuce
To be honest my initial thoughts were the game was going to actually include a dynamic season cycle while the whole debate of it was going on, but at the same time knew it was a bit much to expect for this generation of consoles. It would be a really nice touch though; R* could do a lot with it. For example, different side-missions could only be available in certain parts of the year whatnot. It would make for a challenging game in terms of getting it to 100%. Maybe in a few years time. @PinkLlama: F*ck off, kindly. We can all do without your input. TT1987
R* have to bring in new features to be able to sell the future titles. And snow was present in Liberty City Stories too. Well kinda.

Nikolai Bellic
I never understand topics like this. Has nobody ever played Bully? That was last generation and yes the map was a lot smaller and the season changes were not real-time by any stretch but they were implemented well enough to be good enough to satisfy the average game player. There were a lot of features in bully actually that i feel rockstar has taken a backwards step on, but maybe they're just saving them for the next game. emigrating
Seasons would be great - unfortunately I can't see this happening any time soon. Not because of technical difficulties (it's not really that hard to do - and a lot of the "scenery" is dynamic already) but because the length of the "story" in GTA isn't long enough to warrant it. Most people will play the game til completion, perhaps causing some general mayhem inbetween missions or for a short while after the story is done - for most people this will take no more than 2 in-game months, so unless the storymode started out in late winter most people would never see the seasons changing. Hence, the amount of manhours required to put this into code would not yeild a big enough return for R* in terms of revenue. There's a couple ways around this, but none of which I think R* will implement. One would be to start the story from "todays" date - i.e. if you start playing the game in April, the in-game date will start at April, if on the other hand you start playing it in August, the in-game date will start from August. This would, I believe, not suit R* as they are usually very "restrictive" about their content. Meaning the story should play out as they have planned - this includes, IMO, season. Another way would be to increase the amount of missions in the game to take in-game time to something like 4+ months, however this would still only span two seasons, perhaps three if it's timed correctly. Offering something like 180 story missions in a single game is unheard of and unlikely to happen. They could also speed up in-game time, but I personally feel the in-game hours are already moving too fast. It currently takes well over an hour to travel from Alderney to Bohan, and whilst that's true in real life, it just doesn't feel right in the game. Especially not as any "dates" you arrange with your friends always have to take place within an hour of the "date" being scheduled. Finally - the only real solution to this problem would be to release the game as intended and release episodic content (downloadable or retail purchasable expansion packs) which would guarantee the in-game timespan going over a year or so. This would still require a fair amount of "expansions" though, as the two exclusive 360 episodes are said to contain 10 hours of gameplay each - an educated guess would mean this is at the very most, no more than 15 in-game days. 5Beckenbauer
Don't speak ma name foo's. I kick yo ass. You typed lick wrong. Wahahahahaha Anyways as the OP says about changing seasons although it would be pretty cool i think, being more realistic, that setting a gta in winter would be a nice effect. GTA III had a dark & dull feel to it which i really liked. So with maybe snow as a weather option and mostly rain and just cloudy really. Duno if anyones played the game Fahrenheit? That was set in snowy weather and the whole sense of the game set in a snowstorm/winter just added to the whole atmosphere.
