*NOT* Proof GTA4 was rushed...

Okay I've said before, I'm NOT one of the haters. I LOVE GTA4, but there are some very frustrating things about it. I don't believe that the issue is black and white here - I think you can still love GTA4 and have legitimate complaints about it.

 

That being said, there are plenty of obvious reasons to assume the game was rushed or half-assed in some ways. And I'm NOT talking about stupid little bullsh*t like fingerless gloves or climbing telephone poles or the lack of planes. I'm talking about obvious things like go-kart tracks and mini golf courses being unused in the game, the lack of clothing places, the same songs over and over on the radio, etc. Most of this stuff has been gone over ad nauseum in these forums, but the icing on the cake is this:

 

One month after the release of the game, we have NOTHING LEFT TO TALK ABOUT on the forums. No more secrets, no more cheats, no more easter eggs, no more anything. It's just the same crap over and over again - there's nothing new to discover. There are only two kinds of posts anymore - one is "Do they have this?" answer: "no". The other is "Hey I just found out _____!" answer: "There was a thread about this a month ago dumbass". Even the official fansite has updated about twice since the game came out.

 

I know this game isn't SA, and I'm fine with that. It's on a much smaller scale and it's more realistic. Fine. But back in the SA days, I would come to these forums and every day there'd be something new and interesting to talk about. Now, not so much.

 

And again, it's not that I don't love the game. The graphics and gameplay are pretty much mindblowing, and the cast of characters is the best yet. But the more time you spend with someone (or something), the more you notice the little things that drive you crazy.

None of this is proof that the game was rushed. More than anything this lack of content just proves that R* wants to start selling features as addons.

If it was coded and optimized just for PS3 just think how much more

glorious Liberty City could be at 25GB! with Cell architecture

and motion sensitive controllers!

 

Personally I don't care about PS3 either. I wish Rockstar

had coded GTAIV from the ground up for the most highest end

gaming PC's.... and pushed out a sdk from the beginning..

 

Imagine the mods and tweaks and cheats we would have today!

 

It could be expanded to well over 100GB and beyond... We could have

tanks, Fighter Jets, spaceships, Mansions to live in and explore, Tanks,

promixity bombs, jet skis, BASE jumping and skydiving, PMDG 747

like realism when it came to piloting airplanes, interactive

and alive cruise ships, etc....

 

EDIT: plus multiple islands as expansion packs... and users can create their own

islands and houses in cad/3ds max or custom GTAIV editors etc...

 

This was all possible if R* didn't fall for the avarice of Billy Bill Gates

and caved into the pressure of M$FT..

 

Instead we have a third rate poor sucky GTAIV game limited and capped

by the punny 6.5GB Xbox360 physical storage limitations and slow ass

PowerPC processor of the Xbox 360..... and the supreme irony and

hypocrisy of it all is MicroShaft seems to feel like the DLC

is doing us all a huge favor, whereas if it wasn't for the failure that

is X360 we won't NEED a DLC in the first place!!!!!

It's ridiculous to say it's rushed when it was delayed. Rushed would have been sticking with the release date no matter what.

 

The city having "unused" areas doesn't say anything about what gameplay was considered or dropped. In one of the Houser interviews they said the city is designed first and then they decide what features or missions to put in. This is backwards from what a lot of people would assume and it leads to cities having random stuff that doesn't have anything to do with gameplay.

MY opinion is that if you buy a game you should get the whole thing, put it like this, you pay for private school, you shouldn't pay extra to take good classes, you buy the game you get te whole thing, not just half and then you pay for the other half

And to think of it, if it had come out on PC we wouldn't have to hear the DVD9 scratch-scratch-scratch throughout the entire freaking game play and it would be faster too just cases it would be fetching data of a SATA drive instead of some crappy xbox360 DVD drive that burns up every few hours...

Bill Gates must have an extreme "nice personold" complex or something... with all the "exclusivity" crap these days. So they bought out R* with that 50 mil. and the rest of us have to suffer and pay for it... Life is so unfair.. I agree, as stated, I'm irritated by R*'s money grubbing. This generation of consoles was designed for this type of exploitation, but the dude made it sound like if he buys the DLC his poor grandmother will go without her medication.

wow... that wasn't even about money. all i am saying that the only confirmed DLC info i can find is for XBOX 360. Everyone is saying that PS3 might get it to, but the only thing i have found to that is that sony is thinking that they might and then the microsoft guy comes out and says that not only is that ridicoulos, but that the ps3 can't handle it. It's a console war at the actual corporate level and people that haven't chosen the correct side (read: people that bought ps3s) probably shouldn't hold their breath on dlc.

PS3 will get content. R* would have to be complete fools not to sell stuff to half it's base. The MS deal only pertains to specific content.

Lol, well, I don't think he's that cheap, but he probably barely got the game, but no one knows, I personally think that R* went away from entertainment and went to make money, just like Halo 3, they didn't give a care because they knew if they put crap in the box people would buy it just because it's Halo, GTAIV is still entertaining, but I'm just holding off until Saints Row 2, it's likea next gen San Andreas, and people call Saints Row a GTA "knock-off" when SR clearly has mroe features thn GTAIV, Car customization, car dealerships, barbershops etc......, GTAIV is still a great game, but we all know if it was worked on it a little more it would have been the best in the series.

FYI, I didn't put the *NOT* in the subject line of this thread ... that's very strange.

 

We could talk till the cows come home about DLC ... oh wouldn't it be great if there were fighter jets and tanks and ice cream trucks with front-mounted rocket launchers, etc. The fact is none of us know what it's going to be, and making wish lists on a message board isn't going to prompt Rockstar to make any changes.

 

My main point is that there's nothing new to talk about a month after the game came out. Just look at the forums. The dominant theme is "GTA4 is a major letdown" or "#@% the haters, GTA4 rules!". Precious little else, besides someone discovering the Heart of Liberty City and subsequently getting shouted down by the million people who knew that already.

I can't believe that no one has brought this up; The reason the game is not all it can be is simple. Micro$oft crippled their system with last generation storage medium by using DVD's for the 360. Now don't get me wrong. I have a 360 and a PS3, but this is why Micro$oft secured the DLC. Their optical disc simply isn't big enough to hold enough data for the cutting edge graphics and gameplay the 360 can produce. Look at a game like MGS4 which is using almost 50gb for the game. Then look at a game like GOW, which is AWESOME, but VERY short. GOW2 is going to be the same. If this game had been a sole system release on the PS3, you would've seen a much more immersive polished game. San Andreas used almost a full DVD, and that was without the updated graphics or kick ass engine. Would anyone have been satisfied if the game didn't have those updates? Not in this day and age. Not likely. You can also blame $ony for delaying the PS3 forever and letting M$ get a one year jump on system sales, forcing R* to develop the game silmutaeously for both systems to rake in as much money as they could. I think Rockstar pushed that 9gb limit to the very edge in making this game...and for being only 9gb, I think it is quite impressive. Would I have liked to see more, of course, but that is ALWAYS the case once I have beaten a game. All I'm saying is that Rockstar is not deserving of much of the "blame"
