Huge skill differnece between Player and Ranked

I started out playing in ranked matches until I hit rank 3 and about halfway to rank 4, then just for the hell of it, I played a few player matches, and and found the skill levels of almost all of the players MUCH lower than the players I had been facing in ranked matches. I know all the competitive-type players play ranked matches, and the more laid back players probably play player matches - it's like that in every game that offers both types, but I was surprised how vast the skill differential was in particular with this game. Did anyone else feel this way, or does the skill differential feel about the same as other online games that offer both types?

Player matches? You mean like Deathmatches vs Free Mode?

Is this a 360 thing?

Mr Walker, did you not notice that the option before Ranked on your cellphone is Player Matches? That simply means unranked games.

I believe it is, yes.

From what I have gathered from a few random posts, the ps3 makes all games ranked while the 360 allows you to choose between getting money (ranked) and the ability to invite friends to your game (player).

Yes, I noticed the same thing too.

Grinding my way to lv4 on Cops n' Crooks, then go back to player match to introduce the MP part with a few buddy of mine.

The player match games felt much easier.

Also, you'll notice you get a lot of allow-autoaim setting in player match too.

Yeah, that was the immediately noticeable difference. All ranked games (over 90%) were played with auto aim off, while player matches (over 90% of them) were played with auto aim on. It's almost strange how consistent you see those settings in the two types of game.

It's a bit dumb having the ranked and non-ranked differentiation in a game where there's no meaningful reward for ranking up. What do I care if kids get together and rank up by killing each other if the only reward is the appearance of your player?

So, all the people in this thread talking about this are 360'ers?

I have a PS3 and have no idea what player and ranked matches mean.

When I use my phone to get onto multiplayer...this is all I see:

multiplayer>quick match>game lists.....

No ranked or player matches......

Hmmm

I actually went into a player mode deathmatch just because of this thread.

and I must say, there was a strong difference between skill types.

I pretty much ran through the whole match untouchable.

of, course it was a waste of time.

as the stats and money made off of it won't affect me in any way.

sure, a player mode match is easy as hell. but it's only fun a couple times.

Yes guys this is a xbox360 thing. Essentially think "player match" is not ranked, you can't gain $ to rank up.

Based on my player match C&C experiences I can also say the following:

PM's players driving skill SUCK. In ranked mode I'm been consistently yelled at being "the worst driver on earth", yet in PM mode I've always outrun Cops to the extraction point (NOT a SINGLE shoot fired) and I've always able to catch up the Crooks while driving.

I was also able to kill a bunch of cops as boss on foot while make my way to the EP wihtout issue. Almost feel like a walk on the park, after all that ranked match training. biggrin.gif
