Sometimes I get lucky and land in the water right next to the boat - otherwise, I spend precious seconds looking for it. Once, I actually got on the heli, but by the time I tried not to crash into a building, he escaped. No margin for error it seems. Tips?

 

EDIT: Nah, I just can't get the heli to manuever through the buildings without crashing. I haven't even got time to ascend a bit before it says he escapes. The game script directs him to the statue, can't I just fly there?

 

EDIT 2: to give you an idea of how little time I'm given, Niko gets to saying "just like every..." then it says he got away...

 

EDIT 3: He's always not within radar range (i.e not within the circle) the moment I get control of the heli, is this normal?

I'm sorry no one has replied to your post. Try keeping him in your screen at all times, and try to fly towards him, rather than up, and stay behind him.

 

Could also be that you aren't getting in the heli fast enough (when you have to tap to climb in). See if you can do that quicker.

 

Otherwise, i dont know. I finished the mission probably the 3rd time around.

Well, basicly here's what happens:

 

He screws around for a few seconds, when I press Y, decides to get on the boat after the third press

 

I go in as straight a line as possible

 

He's almost out to land by the time I get in the chopper - it takes about 10 seconds of button pressing to get in my chopper, and believe me, I press it quick

 

I don't even see him when I'm back in control, just the radar blip

 

Sometimes I get lucky and have a chance to turn the heli around to his direction, but damnit, you have to DIVE to accelerate (pushing up on the analog stick, going forward as well as nose-down - always very frustrating that this is the case in GTA games)

 

Since it takes a while to turn the chopper around (LT and RT), that's a few more precious seconds, and I mean, you just have 1 street to manuever in, crash into a building and your finished

 

Not enough time to bring up the cell to repair the chopper either

 

I've done the other branch, but IIRC that was just following over the open sea to happiness island.

ok, i can already see a couple problems. First, there is a group of baddies that drive up and start shooting you just at the end of the docks. My first couple tries, i was shooting at them, and by the time I got in the boat, he was long gone. So, that last group of thugs, just ignore them and run for the boat, even jump over the ledge and forget the stairs. then, you;ll just have to hope Niko gets in the boat quick enough.

 

also, you dont have to dive to accelerate. Don't push the stick all the way forward. just ALMOST all the way forward. Maybe you play a little differently than me, but I can push the stick all the way forward, and go straight only descending slightly to the point that its not even noticeable. keep your right trigger down to give it the gas. if you are too low, jerk the stick all the way back, always keeping RT down, and you qill climb quickly, then push it back forward again to move forward.

 

You shouldnt use LB and RB to turn the chopper. it's slow and unresponsive. instead, use your left stick to bank left and right. I.E. if your making a hard right turn, tilt the heli's blades to the right, and pull up. alway salways always keep RT down for gas.

OK, I completed a Dish Served Cold last night and Mr and Mrs Belic and am now on this mission. Had 4 attempts so far and all good up to the point where Little Jacob comes and asks me to get on the copter buy putting my boat underneath it.

 

Well, before I even get close to doing this he has flown off and I fail - so annoying

it's already been said... but practice driving boat / helicopter outside of the mission. it sounds like you're having trouble with that.

 

also:

 

- do the mission at daytime, so it's easier to see.

- when dimitri gets to the helicopter, ignore the guys on the ground and run straight to the boat

- in the boat you need to be fast, but watch out for rpg

- in the heli you need to be fast, but watch out for rpg

- then there's a scripted bit where you get hit by a lock-on rpg and go down on happiness island.
