A little help with router/non router.

Okay, I know these questions have been asked a million times before, but that was when I didnt use a router and didnt really grasp the answers.

I got a router today (fed up of keep changing my Ethernet cable around) and its a wired, non-wireless (obviously) router.

Now, whenever I try to connect to a game, I keep finding myself in a room all by myself, always the host, with nobody coming in, this is on TDM, C&C and Hangman's NOOSE.

Now, this has only been happening since I went through my router.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

Also, if anyone can add my MSN and help me out via that i'd be much appreciated.

thanks.

Hmm so you're obviously connecting to the network. What kind of game are you choosing? Are you starting up your own party mode game or trying to just join in a quickmatch?

Your issue is not router related or you wouldn't be able to access the PSN.

I'm having another go now, usually when I entered a room before for C&C there would be at least 4 or more people in and if there wasn't the room would fill up fast, now I enter a room and i'm the only one there, or now for example there's just one person, and its been just the two of us for about 4 minutes now.

I've switched to a new game for C&C, and now it's just given me the 'The connection to one of more players has been lost. Returning to single player...' message.

C&C looks definately out of the window.

I load up Free Mode and it gives me the same message again, not even got to the lobby this time.

I load up 'race' and it gives me the chance to race just one person (although I actually managed to win the race).

This never happened once when I connected my Ethernet cable direct.. so why do you think it's happening now?

Now I started my own 'deathmatch' twice and I got to be the host of an empty room twice. Before I NEVER got to host anything at all.

Without getting too technical it sounds like a NAT issue.

Dunno what your router is, but hopefully if you login to your router (using an internet browser) and look through the settings there should be an enable UPnP setting somewhere. If you enable that then you should be sorted.

If that means nothing to you then say so, say what your router is, and I'll try and be a bit more specific.

It made sense to me, but I'm afraid I have not the first idea about logging into my router and changing any settings at all. I appreciate you trying to help, by the way, so if you can help me any further it would be great.

OK.

On your PC (which should be connected to the router and is hopefully XP or Vista), open up internet explorer and type in the address bar 192.168.0.1 and press enter

192.168.0.1 should be the address of your router, it's what they normally are. If you just get a page not found or whatever message then the address is different.

To find its address if it's not 192.168.0.1, open up a command shell (Start->Run->type "cmd" (without quotes)->click OK), then in the shell type "ipconfig" (without quotes) and press enter. Look for the default gateway address, this should be the address of your router. Type this address into your internet explorer bar and press enter.

OK, hopefully you should have a login box. If nothing's been changed on the router then the login will probably be username admin and password password (this information, as well as the address, is sometimes printed on the router somewhere so you could check what's printed on the router). If the password has been changed then you'll need to find out what it has been changed to (although that's kind of unlikely if no one else has done anything with it).

If it accepts the username and password then you are taken to the router's setup page. I can't really help you from here without knowing what the router is cos I don't know where the setting will be, but click through the options it gives you and look for an enable UPnP setting, enable it, then click a button somewhere to save the changes.

It might be a good idea while you're in there to change the password too.

Okay, I've managed to get as far as the login box. the admin/password combination did not work, and I can't find evidence of the password on the router, box or paper.

That's the router I have.

Nevermind, i've actually guessed the password.

Was a series of numbers, which i'm sure anybody could guess (hence why they did it).

I've enabled that, but now when I go Connection Test on my PS3 it says 'not available' next to UPnP.

I just managed to actually have a 2 on 2 game of C&C, but once again i've been reduced to just sitting in a room alone again.

Ah.
