SA_FUGITIVE
Whats with first gear man? why does it over-rev for so long b4 shifting? It messes up get-aways & jumps
NikoLiberty
You're not doing anything wrong, the car's just jacked that way. Try and back up further for jumps so you can get over the 1st gear. Or, you can boost a Grotti Turismo from the Grotti dealership by your Middle Park safehouse.
SIPP3R
Actually I have tested this quite a bit and found that the car's gears perform like real car's, I drive a manual in RL and am used to listening to the engine's rev's - I too found that when driving most car's in the game they OVER revved in 1st gear and some also in 2nd and I too thought I was doing something wrong (surely my fav black banshee couldn't be geared that badly) - So i started mucking round with it and found that when your driving in first gear listen to the rev of the engine - when it hits that sweet spot (before it over revs and you get that whining sound), take your finger off the accelerator trigger and then hit it again and you will find that the car has changed to second gear and will continue to accelerate. You can actually do this through all the gears and get up to top speed alot faster. I have tested this with quite a few cars and found that it really does make a difference. I cannot say I have tried it with ALL cars but I have tried it with a good range of cars from the slow and [email protected] to the fast and elite to know that it does work. This has helped me no end with missions and fast get-aways when timing is everything. This is also the same with bike's - Feel free to test
Bauer
That sounds like an awesome find, SIPP3R! I am going to try that out next time I play. I have noticed that cars stay in first for too long and it constantly annoys me. I like the idea of having an optional pseudo-manual transmission. SIPP3R
He he I actually found this on my second day of play but just figured that everyone knew about it so I didnt say anything - I have slowly been testing this out and it really does work
Crazy Asian
Or you know...don't floor it from a stop. None of the cars in GTA IV have TCS.
SIPP3R
Sure you could do that too but I have found that even doing this the car will still over rev when the gear tops out. Going slow off the start doesnt change the max rev of the gear. I have tried this several ways on many cars as I said and I have found this to be the only way to cut to 2nd with out over rev while still keeping your acceleration up. To be honest it makes sense really - in order to change gear on a manual in RL you have to take you foot off of the accelerator , depress the clutch and change the gear then release the clutch to friction point then accelerate again. It would make the game too difficult to intergrate all that into an action game so I guess they thought this would be the smothest option.
GTA_Robbie
They dont have traction control, but some has so little power that it cant put so much power onto the wheels and make them spin and make smoke!! I think some of them even has 4WD? Oh, and well, better method, even in sucky cars, they would over-rev. Just gently press on the accelerator instead of pushing it fully. Well, its pretty much a simple thing to be prevented super easily. If you are doing stunt jumps, i found out that strangely, doing a burnout before helps actually. I dont know if its that realistic that makes them heat the tires up to incrase grip and stuff like that which i cant be bothered to type... Well, in automatics, when you rev too high, the transmission will take longer to change gears...I think that the headache today just affected me so much...-.- [email protected] right there, middle part helps abit. thats it
M0B5TA
i drive a 5 speed manual in real life and it feels nothing like the game unless ur retarded and redline in every gear but in gta it feels like every car has tranny problems when shifting up
