I'm half Chinese myself, live here, and do find it quite a nice place. True, our population is a little uncontrollable without the one-child policy, and our government is rather strict when it comes to censorship, but still, saying that Chinese people eat snakes, cats, and dogs is going too far. I like to ask the owners of the restaurants where they were actually born. Still yet to dine at a Chinese restaurant owned/operated by an actual Chinese person... Well one at least, afaik. I don't assess, I just eat. @Jayz: I don't think any Chinese restaurant in Mumbai is actually owned by a Chinese. It's just the recipes that the chefs over here have learnt and are serving. And yes they do eat cats, dogs and snakes, I have seen it many times on TV shows and Chinese people also eat Tigers too. One crazy chinese guy had a home/zoo open for Tigers. They got them from the wild and then starting cutting them up and serving them at the zoo cafe. They said that the cafe was really popular then - that's also from BBC news. China has gone through so many wars and their history is one of the oldest. There have been so many assimilations of culture. Manchurians don't even exist anymore because they've been asimilated into the Han which is what everyone considers to be Chinese. An extremely large population of Mongols have also assimilated into Han after Kublai Khan decided to adopt the culture. All those Kung-Fu movies you've seen with the braided long hair in the back is seen to be Chinese but it was originally a forced policy by the Manchurians to wear the hair like that and to wear their clothing. History shows theres been many many wars among tribes who don't consider themselves the same as others, but if you look it up, they all share a common bloodline, even with the Mongols and Tibetians. It shouldn't be a surprise that they're government is so strict and harsh. What communist government in the past wasn't? Heres something a majority of you probably don't know. Even Chinese people themselves don't like each other. The people who wrote the articles probably don't know anything about the culture themselves. I'm both Chinese and Vietnamese. I can tell you for a fact that Vietnamese eat dogs, and it's only a certain type of dog that was used for food in the past. After a war, to celebrate, it would be beer and dog. Chinese people are not the ones known to eat dogs or cats. In certain very rurual areas, they eat rats. They also don't eat the actual snake. They use the snake skin to make a snake wine, which also tastes really really bad, but is also really healthy for you. How can the article be untrue if there was video footage of the interview with the cooks and guests. The Chinese people like to eat Tigers, end of. It doesn't matter if Vietnamese eat "only a certain type of dog". At the end of the day it's a dog. So yes, they do eat dogs.
