Black-hawk
First of all let me start this by stating that I am a total douchebag and a fa**ot for doing what I have done. It was a nice and sunny day, about 1pm, I'm on a freeway going home from College. I'm driving carefully and stuff, until a 2008 Mitsu Pajero passes me at 110 mph. So I, being the stupid 19 year old that I am, decide to tailgate that chick in the SUV (well not really tailgate, out cars were like 15 meters from each other), I mean, if there's a cop out there, he's gonna stop her and not me right? Wrong. Just as I get to about a 110 mph on my speedo, I see a cop run out and wave us both down. So now I'm f*cked. Legally I'm allowed to drive 55 mph MAX for 2 years. The radar clocked me at 111. So the cop comes to my window asking "Do you know how fast you were going?" to which I replied "About a 100 sir, I'm really in a hurry, my dad's about to leave soon and I haven't seen him for half a year", which is true btw. Anyway he was pretty nice about everything, so he asks me for my registration and insurance papers and heads down to the cop mobile. I wait in my car sh*tting bricks. I see in my rear-view that they let the chick go. So the cop car flashes its lights, notifying me that I should go for a visit. This was my first time sitting in a police cruiser. There were 2 cops there. We talk about why was I speeding, I explain, in a respectful manner, they show me the radar. I say that yes I indeed was speeding, but never gonna do it again and just being honest all the way through. The nice cop wanted to let me go, but the other, glasses wearing prick was being an asshole and wrote me a ticket, took away my license and now I need to go to court in 2 weeks. f*cking awesome.. Consequences: a 450 dollar fine and no license for a year (depends on the judge). Moral: don't be a goddamn dumbass and never speed, those 40 minutes that you're gonna cover aren't worth the time spent going to court and paying the fine, not counting the accident I could've caused driving at 110 mph in a Renault. MindCorrupt
Unlucky man, its gonna suck for the next few months. Gonna have your mates driving you around for a while. Ive lost mine twice now (for 3 and 6 months). You'll learn after this though, you can still have fun in your car but youll find that theres a time and place for these things, and its not at 1pm on the freeway lol. Attorney General
If I were you, I'd try to get that decent cop to come to your hearing. Give him a ring, tell him how you're a college student with a job and all that. Tell him you really can't afford to lose your liscence. Ask him if he'll attend your hearing and talk to the judge. He probably won't be able to reduce the fine, but he may be able to persuade the judge to lower your suspension to three or six months or whatever. It may or may not work...but a friend of mine did the same and walked away with a lecture from the judge, a fine and a valid drivers liscence. Good luck! swolo yaggins
Jesus, Black-hawk, that f*cking sucks. But, there's no reason to beat yourself up about it. Remember, "you were keeping up with the flow of the traffic" (tailgating a woman [A WOMAN!!!]) and you, unjustly, got an extreme fine from some c*nt. It really does suck but that doesn't make you a douche or a fa**ot. I've never heard of the advice that Attorney General has suggested to you, but thinking about it it seems very practical and you should try it. You can't help but legally speed. Your limit is set at 55. Who drives at 55? 5192:12.3.02LM/SSHmkl
Black-hawk
How would I go about getting the nice cop's number? Both of their names are on the ticket, but they belong to a police force that's based in another town. Also, the way I see it, is that I'm just going to tell the truth in court. Say that being a college student requires me to have a license, plus all the charity work I'm doing should help. I've got this suspicion though that they've clocked that SUV's speed and not mine, so I'm not sure wether I should mention that in court. @Mikal: Generally old people, but over here if you just got your license you are legally obliged not to go faster than 55mph on highways and 35mph within city limits for 2 years. I've had mine for a year now. Edited May 24, 2008 by Black-hawk
tuff_luv_capo
I've said this in the other topic, and I have done it before. Go to the magistrate, lose, then appeal and plea with the DA for a lesser charge. I went from Street Racing (6 points, 6 month suspension ), to noise violation and wreckless driving (3 points). kevin2006rhs
Use a radar detector next time. Thats what I got and it worked wonders when my work was making me do 2 hours of highway driving every day. Some places they are illegal but you can just stash them under your seat or in the glove box when in a pinch. The fasted speed I have ever gotten pulled over doing (by a cop I didnt know) was 85. Its was a 55mph zone and the cops just said "Slow down, drive safe, and have a nice night."
Black-hawk
Going to court tomorrow, slightly nervous. It's also a 250 km drive so that means getting up at 5am. Well we'll see what the judge has to say.
Suction Testicle Man
Try to keep within the limit on your way there. I must have missed this topic, but I would have said that it's good luck you got caught, since a kick in the balls reminds you that a fine and 1 year ban totally beats getting faceplanted by an elk at 110mph. Good luck with the court case though; I hope the judge is lenient, since I know you're sensible enough to learn without losing your car for a year. If at first you don't succeed, you fail, and the test will be terminated.
Black-hawk
Got back, well a 450 buck fine and no plastic card for a year, but I can go to a cop HQ in half a year and demand my license back. If I don't mess up within 6 months then it's all mine again. I'm thinking of appealing, you can't clock two cars with one radar. Anyway, shopping is gonna be fun now. Oh and my Dad wanted to surprise me with a 2004 m3 as an early b-day present this summer, but upon telling him what has happened I got yelled at and no new car. Don't speed kids. Black-hawk
Unlucky mate, but that will teach you in the future to drive slower. Yeah, I'm just bummed out about the not getting an M3 anymore. The idea of me burning rubber in an M3 will haunt me every time I'm on the, ugh, bus. Time to slit my wrists or something. Also, I may have found a loophole, which allows me to get a motorcycle license even while my automobile one is suspended. Oh ho ho time to call some people. coasterdude184
Can't you get a moped, I believe you can get those with a DUI so speeding shouldn't be an issue. Anyways harsh luck on the M3 thing.
