I really think if you want a deathmatch, join a deathmatch game. Free mode to me should be about going around and doing jumps or just exploring the city with other people, but that is just my opinion. I really think that of all the games out there, GTA IV is not really the best DEATHMATCH game you could be playing. It has some great modes, like GTA Race, Car Jack City, Cops N' Crooks, etc. But as far as Deathmatch goes, I am less than into it. One of my friends and I usually play free mode alone, just hanging out, racing around the city, or just letting ADD get the best of us and explore the city. If any of these things sound interesting to you guys, click on the link in my sig and join our Club, maybe we can get a good size game going, without having a gay Deathmatch.

One of my friends and I usually play free mode alone....

I've began to fully embrace this idea within the past week or so, myself. While not the most exciting experience around, a private "Free Mode" session can not only give one the ability to explore the streets of Liberty City through the eyes of a low-level thug who's completely seperate from the game's storyline, but it can provide for hours of co-operative, city-wide mayhem between two or more on-line acquaintances when interest in the aforementioned modes begins to wan.

Not only do private sojourns prevent the majority -- if not all -- of the "griefers" out, but it's just a more immersive experience knowing that you won't have to worry about being sniped or rammed by a car going in excess of ninety miles an hour whilst taking a casual stroll through Middle Park.

"Most griefers suck against a trained TDM player."

And what about when the griefers get better at TDM and can match most players in skill? Then what does it boil down to in order to avoid them?

Like I said before, most griefers don't have the balls to play enough TDM to get better. They grief because they get enjoyment out of attacking what seems to be a weaker or unsuspecting target.

My experience has been, once a griefer, or regular player gets into playing TDM regulalry, they will actually learn to enjoy free mode more for what it is... "A break from running and gunning against other players"

The nature of a griefer is to be a d1ckhead, and thats almost imposible in TDM when everyone is shooting at you(more so in TDM because alot of the TDM regulars are excellent gunmen). You really only have time to pay attention anb fight back...

So, I wouldn't worry about griefers using TDM to get better...most just can't handle good players shooting at them. And if they did stick with TDM to the point where they got that much better, then griefing would cease to be fun or worth it, and they would become converts to our way of playing Free mode anyway...

Trust me, I was a griefer once. It stops being fun once you have confidence in your shooting skills. Suddenly your like. "WTF, why am I gunna shoot this kid who is picking people up to rampage, when I can go to TDM and have a challenge?"

Then your mantra changes...as a griefer you evolve, and begin to hate the other griefers who you now see picking on that same kid you just left alone.

and you think..."[email protected] didn't just let that kid live so you can [email protected] ruin his gaming experience." And thats when you become the griefer killer....its so much more fun killing griefers than it is killing some kid who just wants to drive around.

NP Muse,

I like talking to you guys/gals.

And I really do feel for the people who just want to coop rampage in free mode. When I first got GTA4 I played offline until I got to 48% completion. Then I tried online and haven't played a single story mode mission since.

I remember my first night online in free mode. I griefed a few people, and it was fun. But then I saw how bothered people got, and how much fun they were having just cooperating. I figured "Hell if I can have just as much fun while NOT being a d1ck, I'll give it a try."

It was awesome cooperating with players instead of griefing them. Then, a griefer came in and torched our whole wagon train of 4 players. I had trouble killing the griefer, so when a buddy invited me to TDm I went. I started playing TDM exclusively for many, many gaming sessions. I loved the challenge, I loved the people I had made friends with, and I loved playing against people who were really good, cuz better players make us better.

Then, I got an invite from one of my CoD4 buddies to join him in Free mode...reluctantly I went and played. Within about 15 minutes of having fun rampaging, we got nuked by a griefer who had just joined the map. My buddy wanted to leave, but I felt my skills had gotten good enough that a griefer could only take me by surprise...so if I decided to hunt the griefer he should have no shot.

Well, I was right.

Combine the simple effect of most Free mode hosts leaving "Auto-aim" on, and most TDM hosts, turning it off with no blips...I found hunting griefers in free mode almost a joke....but still very satisfying. Most times they had no idea what hit them, or when they did, they were very surprised that "THEY" had become the hunted.

Also, the gimped spawning made it real easy to torture them right off most maps once I had ganked them that first time, cuz they would spawn right next to me. Showing no mercy and just fragging them until they left quickly helped me make more friends. As it turned out, being nice does pay... and the currency is friendship, and solid online playmates...

Now, when I log into play I barely have half a minute before I am whisked away into a friends match...

As I said before, I am always willing to jump from my current game to help out cool people. SO please, if your getting griefed and find you can't handle the tool. send me a PM and I will gladly come clean up. When we are logged in I have a solid dedicated group of 4-5 regulators who love nothing more than to get the call while we race and TDM to come dispose of a griefer....ROFL.

Just be patient, because we have recently gotten "Age of Conan" and most of us are deeply immersed in this exciting new MMO.

That really says something in regards to the single-player mechanics, my friend. Still, I found the game's storyline and pacing better suited to the concept of a "sandbox" title. San Andreas' structure, in my opinion, was utterly chaotic.

I finally got around to creating my own PSN account this morning, and witnessed an interesting reversal. The first game that I played was Deathmatch, and my sole opponent was acting as if it was Free Mode. For some reason, it was utterly hilarious -- he tried to kill me once or twice, but he was mainly just driving and walking around. Eventually, I felt so bad about killing him that I just strolled around Bohan til time ran out and I could join a merry band of homicidal maniacs.

Is there a list somewhere of people who are up for non-deathmatchy Free Mode games? Nevermind, I think I found one
