spiffitz
Had a fun time this morning. I started a game with FF off, aim off, voice chat off, and police on. One guy joined as I was having a firefight with the cops and he helped out. We then drove to Burger Shot and hid behind the brick wall, exchanging fire with cops. As people joined they instantly realized what was going on and joined the fun until there were SWAT vans and helicopters all over the place. Eight people all bunkered down in a Burger Shot parking lot! When that fizzed out and we got spread out, I got into a heli with two other guys and he took us to the helitours to get more helis. Eventually we were landing on top of bridges, riding the tugboat, starting police chases on a Faggio, swing glitch, running down the beach in slow-motion while holding hands, etc. Good stuff. Then the game eventually shrunk to 3 players, and the other two were constantly trying to run each other over while one of them was oblivious to the concept that is "friendly fire off". Oh well, not bad for at least an hour's worth of fun. You can easily tell who the grieftards are because they join, start shooting, realize they can't aim or kill you and then they leave. But once it dwindles down to just a few players it usually gets stupid.
Alcoholica86
I agree with the one who started this topic. I went into free mode and got in a car and was gunned down by two people that were already in Free Roam. Not cool at all. After that i just started killing everyone lol. I have got a bone to pick wtih those that kill their damn team mates in Team Death Match.

Dwert
If you are the party leader just put friendly fire off/on if you don't want people to get killed.Simple as that. If the party leader made the game and wanted a deathmatch,it is freemode. He is doing what he wants to do.You play by the party leaders' rules. Coltrane's Muse
I have got a bone to pick wtih those that kill their damn team mates in Team Death Match. I know exactly what you mean. Last evening, I played my very first "Team Death Match"; 'twas myself and three others -- my sole teammate was an individual going by the name of Lydonrich04 -- and the thing went relatively well for the first twenty minutes. Then the "griefing" began. I'd attempt to find higher ground with my sniper riper so as to accumulate more kills, and what does my bonehead partner begin doing? Assaulting me with a pistol for no other reason, I suppose, than to get a kick out of my frustration. I spent the remainder of the match having to avoid not only the opposing team of two highly-skilled shootists, but the gunfire of my teammate as well. Not a very gratifying experience, that's for sure. But, I look at the bright side -- at least I made $1,000 out of the damned thing!
Coltrane's Muse
You play by the party leader's rules. Oh, how I wish this were true most of the time, but it unfortunately is not. If it is such, then why is it every time I host a game of "Free Mode" with "friendly fire" off, others still have a tendency to turn the fandangled thing into an impromptu (albeit futile) death match? Why is it I'm constantly having to dodge wayward Futos with madmen behind the wheel? Why is it I must endure idiots running next to me, cooking grenades and proceeding to blow themselves sky high with the sole purpose of putting me and anything within their radius out of commission? So go the mysteries of life.

You can't say you play by the host's rules when you don't really know what those rules are -- it's not like hosts can spell their intentions out, let alone take real action when there's a problem player in their game, and very few use headsets on PSN. Sometimes I create a game and have friendly-fire on, NOT because I'm seeking a round of Deathmatch for Dimwits, but because sometimes it's nice to have that option. Sometimes a game just takes a consensual 'shoot your opponent' turn, and sometimes, a person just needs to die. Like the idiots who will hop in a car and repeatedly (try to) run you over when they realize they can't shoot you, or crash their helicopters into yours while you're trying to take off, or whatever. Nevermind the fact that some people don't know how to turn friendly-fire off, or what it applies to in Free Mode. --- I lucked out and actually got put into TWO awesome games this morning. I entered, saw a blip moving a block down move me and was like 'oh god, here we go again with no decent guns, armor, or escape in sight!', but he pulled up in a car, had me get in, then stopped and let me get guns and ammo along the way. We were chasing one evil doer around, having cop fights, taking in the city, blah blah blah. Then everybody left, and I joined another game. Started off the same way, with a guy picking me up rather than killing me on site. It eventually did become very deathmatch-like, but it took ~90 minutes before it hit that point. Those games were such a nice change from the ones I usually get dumped in. Wish I'd thought to send some friend requests
Coltrane's Muse
To avoid many of these "idiots", I tend to disallow blips and usernames altogether. I'm usually left alone when those joining discover this. Unfortunately, some manage to slip through the cracks. Boo hoo.
chitoryu12
One dickface on my last Free Mode game was flying his helicopter above and ahead of mine after a short pursuit of sorts (no gunfire, though) through Algonquin. For no reason whatsoever, he pulled back on the stick as a sort of screeching on the brakes and dropped altitude so my rotors hit his tail and knocked it off. He then proceded to scream at me over the mic for ramming him.
SouleRonin
FREE MODE!!!! While I don't think its cool to just grief people, I do think its the players choice to do what they want in free mode. Players want maximum pixeled reality, but then when another player runs up and peels their wig back, because they can they b1tch as if the whining is earning them cash. I stand by what I said earlier, its free mode, if you can't protect yourself in free mode, then you should be practicing in TDM. If not for any other reason than to be able to really put the screws to griefers, and kick them so hard in the pixeled nuts that they leave the map. Trust me when I say, being confident that I can wipe out griefers actually makes me a much better Free mode player. I am always eager to just drive up next to strangers and beep the horn to let them know I am willing to be chill and hang out. Because I know that if they hop in the car they are gunna have a blast while I drive around the city with 4-5 stars and continue to keep them alive, but I also know that if they do shoot me, I'm gunna respawn, and make them wish we played on different consoles.... Protect yourself by being one with the M4...lol. Soule RONIN
AdZ767
The thing that pisses me off is when i play freeroam online is the people who just shoot me regardless if i obviously had the upper hand and couldv killed them 1st. Sometimes i put away my gun or just turn around and walk away to show i mean no harm, but still they shoot me in the back.. i guess they cant get kills any other way and they think that is skill.. no its actually cheap. So be warned if you do that to me i will hunt you down and make sure your game becomes hell. Same applies to when i try to pick somone up in a car, i dont shoot randomly at people & im not trying to run you over, dont f*ckin shoot me you cheap asses biatches cuz i will seek revenge like no other. TheHandsy
I know what you mean, me and some friends were acting as if we were a taxi service. We would get people trying to kill us, people in helicopters trying to kill me but I pwn them with my uber driving skills. Or we just get to the person who wants a lift, there he is with an rpg. I'm sure you can guess the next part.
Coltrane's Muse
I've just returned from one of the best roams I've had in days. Who'd have thought that an all out battle against law enforcement within the confines of a museum being currently re-modeled could be so damned entertaining? Much collateral damage was made, and fun was had. It's particularly nice to know that, on occasion, entire games can comprise of like-minded individuals whose sole intentions aren't to "grief" one another, but to enjoy themselves in the company of others. Scan54 and IllegibleScript, I salute you.

xNikolaiBellicx
I hate people who just shoot at you even when you just try to drive them around. I started a free mode game this afternoon, and two people joined, one aimed at me while i was climbing a fence so i smg'ed his head off. The other just stood there saying 'hi' so we went around, shoot some stuff then about 10 people come in slowly in the game, and we have a massive shootout in Star junction, it turned into a War-Destruction Derby-Merciless killing type thing. I played this free mode game for about 2 hours. The whole time me and the guy from the start didint even shoot each other. So when we got far from each other i just grab a vehicle and save him from a shootout. Shame i got disconnected form the game though. The last thing we did was camp in a roof and shoot people who walk by. I got rocket launcher'ed lol. Then the game disconnected.
assfab
Lately in free mode, I've decided to attack those 'griefers' with complete and utter friendship! For example, the other day I entered free mode, and went right into an intense DM.. I tried to get out of the chaos, however, as you know it, was shot into oblivion by numerous players before I could really get anywhere helpful. So yeah, I died and then spawned right into that noise all over again, and this time, someone was trying to ram me with their car. I'm pretty good at dodging the hit and runs, so I jumped out of the way and they crashed right into a pole. They started trying (poorly) to pistol me from within their vehicle and what did I do? I hopped in the car with them!! With all the shooting/cops/craziness going on around, they had no choice but to speed away or die!! We blew up shortly after and of course, they kept coming for me in their car.. never learning.. I just kept getting in with them.. and they don't learn? Like, why not just get out of the car and lock their ole auto aim on me and kill me?!! It confuses people! This other guy who killed me like three times in a row, well, I kept getting vehicles and driving up to him & beepin'! He'd shoot at me, so I'd drive away and then turn around and beep again! Beep beep! But he still wanted to kill me.. but it's funny when you just keep up this behaviour!! They get so confused! Too funny!

AdZ767
Yesterday i joined a free mode game with frinedly fire off & straight away this one dickhead tries to run me over repeatedly, he knocks me over a few times then i manage to escape but by then i was really pissed off.. so i ran to the nearest rocket launcher, caught up with the wanker and as he was coming at me, i blew him away..of course friendly fire was off so he didnt die, but i carried shooting him every time he tried to get up. About six rockets later he went flying into the air from my rocket and died from the fall then straight away left the game (LOL PWNED).. it serves him f*cking right i wasnt out for a war but if you bring it to me i shall make sure im the one that finishes it. Revenge is served best cold, and if you dont like it dont do it to others in the first place. EDIT:WHOOPS! i meant friendly fire was off lol fixed now! If someone can take down a guy wielding an M4 with just a Glock, he's God. Getting blasted when you spawn is not something you can avoid 100% no matter how good you are. But, limiting how effectively a griefer is spawn camping you is a matter of skill. If you know someone is spawn camping you, then you should be able to drop them right quick after they tag you once or twice...if your good. I never have a problem with griefers or spawn camping griefers...because of all the tdm I play. again, with auto aim off. So, when I join a map where the griefing tarts need auto aim, its basically hunting seasons, and griefers are the prey in season. As for someone with a pistol taking me out when I have an M4...not [email protected] likely... Unless I am away getting a sandwich. I mean, it has happened, but only when I just spent the last ten minutes torturing a crew of griefers, and I'm next to zero health, with low ammo, and they are all spawning next to or behind me. (Now in TDM some of the players there are Elite and can in fact lay the smack down with just their pistols...but I have never experienced this in free mode from a griefer) Personally, when I hunt griefers... "I HUNT"... Meaning, from cover...while stalking....and they don't have a [email protected] chance in hell of killing me 1/10th the amount of times I am going to kill them. But yes, every dies sometimes. We've said it before, and it will be said again... "Most griefers suck against a trained TDM player." So if you find that griefers are ruining your free mode experience...play a couple matches of TDM every day before you switch to Free mode.. I guarantee you will be owning the griefers in only a couple days... Soule RONIN

And what about when the griefers get better at TDM and can match most players in skill? Then what does it boil down to in order to avoid them? In my case, absolutely no "friendly fire" or explosives. Compound this with no way of tracking who's who or their whereabouts, and many potential "griefers" will exit the game almost as soon as they arrive; of course, this will more than likely put off others who wish to have an enjoyable on-line social experience, but if you want this, then you know that "Party Mode" or a private roam are really the only games in town. It's not that people have trouble using it, just that they don't want to listen. We end up on servers with five different people shouting the instruction to votekick a player who won't start and is holding up the game, and they still ignore us. Besides, you don't know who the griefers are until the game starts, and with the number always on the rise, you can't just hop to different servers until you find the perfect one. And private games are not always available for use.
