BasketCaseFred
For me, the story makes the game. Now, before I start, let me say IV has A LOT of things going for it. I really like the realism, but the story....It was just lacking, i felt nothing for any of the charecters of IV. Each game had an amazing story, but GTA IV is severely lacking, it can't even compare to San Andreas(Dont tell me to go play SA, because really, R* really f*cked up this time) Lets compare, shall we? In SA, you start out as CJ with your old gang Grove street, slowly working up respect for not just you, but Grove once again. Early on in the game, you feel as if you're starting to run sh*t...Then, a slap to the face, betrayl by two of your closest friends, Ryder and Big Smoke! Seriously, I didn't see it coming. Maybe Ryder, but not Smoke. There was no betrayl,if you count Michelle you're nuts! Who didnt see that from a mile away? ya you're looking for someone, but who/why is very vague early on, and by the time you find out its as if its not very important! Compared to past GTAs, this one really does better than most in everything....But, the story is what killed it for me. And thats why this game let me down, not because there was no gloves, or I dont have a chainsaw bla bla bla. The core element of the game, the story, was missing. There is no exscuse imo. Just a little rant

deimos256
I think the best story was VC but this one was definately the most believable, the closest to how an actualy life of crime would play out in the real world, therefore I love this storyline

Narratorjuan
There was nothing remotely "emotional" about SA's storyline, it was completely over the top and utterly ridiculous! I mean, a gangsta working for the CIA and Alien conspiracies? Funny, not believable. Don't get me wrong, IV's storyline is hardly perfect , but compared to SA, and to most games in general, it is Shakespeare. But, hey, it's all opinion, so what do i know? BowZa28
I personally liked the story, however i do think that they made a mistake in not making Kate feel that important. Now i dont know about the rest of you but i wasn't even bothered when she died And for a character dieing in a major part of the story, that person should be pretty frickin important to you and Niko. Your average street thug doesnt take down entire cities or infiltrate government buildings or naval ships. He shakes people down, extortion, assasinations, theft, stuff like that, which GTAIV covers. I think its pretty damn realistic

That depends how much time you spent with her. She's the only date you can have that actually talks with you about your past and how it is like to live a life of crime. Even comparing SA storyline to IV is just retarded. How can you see stealing a jetpack better than actually feeling like a real criminal who is trying to make a buck. Garstick
I agree completely i think i enjoyed all GTA stories since GTA3 more than this. I'm sorry but i don't play games for realism because that is what real life is for. I thought the story in GTA was a pile of sh*t. "oooooohhhhh poor me i saw some kids dead in my home village yet i'm still quite happy to murder hundreds of innocent people and not be bothered." "oooooooooo i'm looking for someone and when i find them it's going to be really sh*t and boring" "oooooooo i have hundreds thousands of pounds from robbing a bank yet i'm still complaining about needing more money." Niko is a twat.
xNikolaiBellicx
No, SA's storyline is good but not as movie like as IV, i mean look at the things niko does. And IV still surprises me even after i finished the storyline and just doing the random peds' missions.
nlitement
GTAs shouldn't try too hard to be Mafia, because Mafia doesn't try too hard to be GTA (haha, very funny, smartasses, I'm not talking about the freeroam format).

"Goddamit, drugs are bad, f*ck, sh*t, I gotta smoke this punk ass's cracka Ryders ass, bitches, 'cuz my brotha's in the joint, yo!" He actually reminds me of Manny Escuela - drugs=bad violence=ok
Hazzad
i got the game about a week ago, i like the story-line, very realistic, but i still haven't complete it partially because i have a life and don't play games that often, partially because i've been online but mostly because the story doesn't make me want to know what happens next. best gta story-line but lack of surprises. 100%
GTA IV has the best story by far. San Andreas, the story and most of the 'gangsta' characters, were freaking stupid. CJ was a little bitch, all his old friends that turned on him were lame.
Rich Rosas
It was a good story, just good. But GTA never have being about great storylines, thats what RPGs and books are for. Although some of the choices you are given felt a little off. Mallorie cheats on Roman and you kill Vlad, but hesitate when finding Drako or w/e his name was? IMO one of the best missions should have being when you find this particular guy. Niko is supossed to be driven by revenge and loyalty, but offer him the right amount cash and he will kill his cousin. He has no sense of honor or dignity, he is just a hired gun. So makes no sense to me, when you can choose not to kill Ivan or the black guy at the projects. Who are them to spare their lives if you killed a guy just because Mallorie is a whore? Making a deal with Dimitri, how can that be an option? And worst of all, Bulgarin is the biggest pain in the ass and the one telling Dimitri what to do about you but you never have a face to face with him? I'm not saying that VC or SA had better storylines, I'm just saying that GTA's storylines aren't epic or anything near to that. And if you think so, read the book "The Count of MonteCristo" by Alexander Dumas and you will learn what an epic story about surviving and revenge should be. frka
I have to agree GTA4 storyline isn't that great, it's actually one of the things I disslike about the game. First of all, the character isn't polished at all, "Niko Bellic" pronouncing the words are just ridicilous, worst pronounciation ever, and some of the words said in "serbian" are completely wrong. Being form Balkan that for me is ANNOYING AS HELL! Big company like Rockstars can't even make some research before creating a serbian character. Not to mention a big company as Rockstar is they could have hired a REAL SERB to do the voice acting, not some random dude. Ask any real Serb and he will confirm what I'm saying. The second thing is Niko's greedyness, he does ANYTHING for money. Even tho he want's start over be a better person, but as long as you give him money he will do anything you say. Hey let's go stab a person a random person... Niko's answer: "Does it pay?". Hey let's go jump of a cliff and see if we survive ... Niko's answer: "Does it pay?". He is just everyones bitch, and to top it all off, you get nothing at the end. He is as misserable as he was when he arrived to America. Don't like the story at all. Oh ya, because this game is so realistic i've killed hundreds of people, but no one seeks revenge on me? really? if you want THAT much realism, maybe you should just go become a criminal. Forget 'mastermind', atleast make SOMETHING of himself. Seriously, robbing the bank had like no effect whatsoever! wtf?!
