GTAIV is a big step backwards in gameplay

It's only "removed" if it was in IV in the first place.

 

What you would call "removed" was things they officially announced, but never put into the game, such as duffel bags, etc.

 

However, the things they SAID they would put in, but ultimately didn't, are so minor that nobody should really care.

IV was the hardest out of all the GTA games imo.

 

It was more real...in the other games you could shoot up 30 people in walk away with out gettin shot but in IV if you walk into a shoot out area you won't even last 2 mins nor can you run.

I kind of agree with you, but at the same it almost feels like they wanted to bait a younger audience. Or at least a dumber one.

 

The game overall really doesn't feel as "grown-up and mature" as all the reviewers say it is. Sure, the physics and story are more mature...but when that's all said and done we still are only left with the same old formula for how things really operate.

 

There's also not very many choices in HOW I want to carry out a mission. Most missions are pretty linear. Which is where I feel like Rockstar wanted to bait more casual gamers, than the hardcore 30-year old gamer who has to think his way through the game, rather than given such an obvious straight line to follow.

Ok so I know all you real GTA fans are pissed. I am. It seems that GTA has lost it's epicness. And to blame it on the character?! Thats bullcrap. Anyways I put together a little list of things you can do in san andreas that got forgotten.

1. skydiving (was my fav. jumping out of a plane at high altitude to fall directly on your destination... epic)

2. tatoos (It shows freaking tattoos in the opening crappy drawings load time thingy)

3. graffiti (I see fat chicks getting up and i cant...)

4. fly an airplane (simple mechanics that just should have been added)

5. basketball ( I miss playing hoops and multiplayer online gun toting craziness woulda been amazing! )

6. gang wars ( I understand Niko isnt in a gang but he is a freaking gun for freaking hire! I might be wrong but I think New York might have some gangs. and pledging your allegiance to one might have been a brilliant addition. or maybe even creating your own hitman gang woulda been nice ? )

7. drug dealing from the tastee freeze truck (ok i know what you are thinking. tedious 30 min missions by the docks. It still woulda been fun to make money off all the crackheads in LC.)

8. customization of cars ( i dont think i need to say anything other than pee on rockstar)

9. real estate (WTF i have to kill friends to get a nice place to live?!)

10. owning your own business (again. pee on rockstar)

11. work out or not (getting fat was the shiznittle bam scoobley puff)

12. train in different martial arts ( WHERE IS MY KICKBOXING?!)

13. air to ground missiles (mmmmm online multiplayer dogfights duh)

14. gambling (wtf do i do with a half million bucks wit 100% complete. strippers dont cost that much)

15. hair stle (i want a freaking mohawk)

16. the gimp game!!!!!! (nuff said me thinks... hot coffee)

17. FREAKING HYDROLICS!!!!!! (ONCE AGAIN PEE ON ROCKSTAR )

Really I do have hope for the next gta. since EA will most likely be making it. oh and dont expect gta IV to be on pc ever. or at least any time soon. they have publicly stated that they want it exclusively a console game. GTAIV does one thing very well though... graphics. Some of the graphics are absolutley amazing and the environment is so fresh. But the streets are still bumpier than offroad trails in afghanistan but at least you get to screw prostitutes. get your hands out of your pants and program better rockstar. oh and wii table tennis sucks harder than the prostitutes in your game! thats enough ranting for me.

gta4 is the introduction of a new trilogy, or maybe something differnt. GTA4 is not san andreas, get over it already. GTA4 has better everything then in san andreas. however we should not be comparing gta4 with San andreas, we should however be comparing it to gta, gta2, gta3. Why is that? well if you dont know i think you should find out for yourself. GTA4 is the first step into the next gen gaming, and it gives enough to you that you dont need to make already awsome looking cars have a stupid bass and hydrolics. that is just boring and useless. try using the internet for people to date that you actually could like, and discover the bonus you get for them liking you. actually play the game for what it is and leave the old gen games where they belong, in the past.

(I do not say this in a trollish way. This post is all matter-of-fact.)

 

First thing to remember, San Andreas had 2 games after it that did not include all the sim-features, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. Yes, they were meant for a portable, but they also improved a lot on San Andreas' graphic style and core gameplay.

 

1. This was only included because of the Airplanes. No airplanes means no parachutes.

2, 3, 8, snd 17. These fit the atmosphere of 90s LA gangsters (story-wise), not 07-08 NY immigrants.

4. Rockstar said this was only because there is one city, and there is nowhere to fly, although, the same could be said about Vice City Stories. On the other hand, there is a semi-nofly zone over NYC, so from a realism standpointm this makes sense.

5. They included bowling, darts, and pool. It's more likely you would see the older Niko playing these than basketball, like the younger CJ.

6. Gang wars are more a street gang thing than a maffia thing. That's why this is not included in Liberty City Stories either. Vice City Stories has the Empire Building which is similar but fits the environment more. However, this is not a modern NYC style gameplay element. That's why it isn't included.

7. I agree that the ice cream vans should be able to sell something, but drugs are not really an option in modern NYC.

9 and 10. Assume Niko has no credit. He is a newly arrived immigrant to LC. No real estate agent would even show him a house without proper credit and a real on paper job. As far as businesses, you need credit to get one started too. Story-wise, Niko would never own a business of his own.

11, 12, and 15. Niko has been in the military. They trained his body to its current state. In his mind, he knows he has to stay in the shape he is in. He is also fully trained in a martial art. His character would be too proud of this to use a different one.

13 and 18. There are no in-story reasons for these. Without an in-game military force, these simply wouldn't be in LC.

14. Niko himself is aganst gambling. This would not fit his character. Besides, he would have to go to Atlantic City to do it.

16. Yes, lets get all of GTA banned.

 

Don't set your hopes to high that EA will be making the next GTA. First of all, EA has been stopped at every offer so far. Second, even it EA does take over Take2, Rockstar will be as autonomous as they are right now.

 

As far as a PC version of GTA IV goes (judging by the GTA III PC launch anouncement), in July, we will likely be told that the PC version will be coming out in October. Rockstar has not stated either way yet.

 

Rockstar has one of the best programing teams in the world. If they didn't, why would the same core team from the first GTA still be there today?

 

(Now, my opinion: Vice City Stories had the best gameplay to side stuff ratio in the GTA III generation. IV could definately use tanks. Every GTA before it had them. That is the only real step backwards.)
