GTAIV is a big step backwards in gameplay

Ok so I know all you real GTA fans are pissed. I am. It seems that GTA has lost it's epicness. And to blame it on the character?! Thats bullcrap. Anyways I put together a little list of things you can do in san andreas that got forgotten.

1. skydiving (was my fav. jumping out of a plane at high altitude to fall directly on your destination... epic)

2. tatoos (It shows freaking tattoos in the opening crappy drawings load time thingy)

3. graffiti (I see fat chicks getting up and i cant...)

4. fly an airplane (simple mechanics that just should have been added)

5. basketball ( I miss playing hoops and multiplayer online gun toting craziness woulda been amazing! )

6. gang wars ( I understand Niko isnt in a gang but he is a freaking gun for freaking hire! I might be wrong but I think New York might have some gangs. and pledging your allegiance to one might have been a brilliant addition. or maybe even creating your own hitman gang woulda been nice ? )

7. drug dealing from the tastee freeze truck (ok i know what you are thinking. tedious 30 min missions by the docks. It still woulda been fun to make money off all the crackheads in LC.)

8. customization of cars ( i dont think i need to say anything other than pee on rockstar)

9. real estate (WTF i have to kill friends to get a nice place to live?!)

10. owning your own business (again. pee on rockstar)

11. work out or not (getting fat was the shiznittle bam scoobley puff)

12. train in different martial arts ( WHERE IS MY KICKBOXING?!)

13. air to ground missiles (mmmmm online multiplayer dogfights duh)

14. gambling (wtf do i do with a half million bucks wit 100% complete. strippers dont cost that much)

15. hair stle (i want a freaking mohawk)

16. the gimp game!!!!!! (nuff said me thinks... hot coffee)

17. FREAKING HYDROLICS!!!!!! (ONCE AGAIN PEE ON ROCKSTAR )

18. Tanks. damnit

 

Really I do have hope for the next gta. since EA will most likely be making it. oh and dont expect gta IV to be on pc ever. or at least any time soon. they have publicly stated that they want it exclusively a console game. GTAIV does one thing very well though... graphics. Some of the graphics are absolutley amazing and the environment is so fresh. But the streets are still bumpier than offroad trails in afghanistan but at least you get to screw prostitutes. get your hands out of your pants and program better rockstar. oh and wii table tennis sucks harder than the prostitutes in your game! thats enough ranting for me.

sorry if im not the only one pissed at spending 60 bucks on a crappier game then the one that came out 4 freaking years ago.

 

*edit* seriously though i love san andreas. i think its probably the best game of all time. the new gta is a disgrace. i beat it in a week 100%. I also work full time and go to school so i dont spend alot of time gaming. id say this game has about 50 hours worth of gameplay whereas san andreas probably had 100+. sad

Those things weren't "forgotten," Rockstar just didn't throw in loads of random stuff like they did in SA. Think of GTA IV like GTA III; they're both the beginning of a trilogy and when VC & SA came out, more features were added from GTA III. They didn't want to overload the game with too many things as it wouldn't make for much of a "surprise" once the next GTA's come out.

That is a poor excuse to say they left it all out so they could add it in the sequels.

I really hope they weren't deliberately holding out on us, if they are it will be the first time i have ever felt ripped off by Rockstar.

I am a real fan as i have played every gta ever. even when it wasnt 3d and it was a birds eye view.

 

And about the problems with adding old functionality to the new euphoria engine. PS3 is known to have one of the worst SDK's out there. Not adding old stuff into the new one could have indeed been a result of this to a certain extent but more likely than not rockstar made this gta as foreplay and nothing more. i didnt want to buy a bj though. i wanted to get ridden and rocked.

Actually GTA IV is a sequel, the continuance of a trilogy. Therefor more should be expected, not less.

 

But yea it's clear they started over from scratch - they are also saving other features to be released with DLC hopefully.

 

The game looks beautiful but lacking some more innovation IMO.

Let's compare it to Star Wars for a second:

 

Episode IV: A new Hope - First of its kind with limited 1970s tech, but blew everyone away (set the standard…no one knew anything like it)

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - Improvement on visuals and a lot more drama (getting better with a few "missing" pieces)

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Amazing special affects, story line questions answered…it all makes sense.

 

Fast forward about 15 years (better than 4, right?) CGI and money have made the impossible, possible.

 

Episode I: Sucked so bad I can't even remember the name without using Google…who in the hell was responsible for the casting (other than Samuel M.F. Jackson)

Episode II: Attack of the Clones (still had to Google, and I'm a huge SW fan) - Much better effects, fight scenes seemed more tied in to the movie, and further character development.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Amazing, dark story that finally completed everything. Who can forget seeing Luke and Leia being born?

 

 

Ok, so with that logic, everyone was pissed off when the "new" trilogy came out, because they were used to the old standards. Each one improved until Revenge of the Sith, and Star Wars fans are content. It takes time to develop and CAPITALIZE on new technologies and break the code.

It doesn't matter, it is a video game. I would also say it is a little far fetched to come to America and your first day here you are going to be meeting mafia bosses and killing people? If it is that easy to make hundreds of thousands of dollars how come I have never met a mafia boss?

in response though, the actual gameplay has progressed incredibly well. the driving physics are more realistic requiring an almost Gran Turismo-like approach to fast controlled driving.

 

and the gunplay now uses a fun cover and fire system comparable to other games based entirely around the cover system.

 

considering that the development time for San Andreas was two years... the game you would have wanted would have been released by 2010.

 

this is the first next gen version of the title, so it would only be reasonable to expect a solid foundation this time out.

10.owning your own business: again Niko is not a buisness man he is a man from the war and they don´t have a lot. People of the war are decent.

11. work out: Its boring to tap the same button again and again. People who are in war aren´t skinny and aren´t fat.

12. train in different martial arts: he was in war and is perfectly trained in krav maga (i think) CJ had to learn self decence

13. air to ground missiles would be cool

14. Gambling: that would also be cool especially poker, but he would get rich and that was not what rockstar wants

15. hair style: Niko with an iro? That would look ridiculous.

17.FREAKING HYDROLICS: You mean low rider. i don´t think that i can do this more often than one time. Its boring. If you want to see your car jump make a stunt.

You just can hope that rockstar make these feature in the next game. Think back to GTA III there were also just story. You have to understand that Euphoria and graphics and the Car driving and.... had to be improved. It is much more important than all the things that you mentioned, but its your opinion ok.
