Mexli
I notice the only people who are defending weed are the ones who do it, and you keep telling me how tobacco is bad, for God's shake stfu, I know tobacco is bad but weed is bad too I don't smoke weed and I defend it. It's all a big conspiracy by Millionaires to keep it illegal so they don't go broke when it becomes legal. I don't think there's anything wrong with weed as long as you don't hurt anybody or it doesn't fu*k up your life. plus wouldn't weed be so much cheaper if it became legal? AZSupraT
Nah, Digital Evil. Kadafi was actually really shot by accident from his cousin. But he wasn't high, I heard another story. dawg, don't be so stupid. If you don't like weed, don't insult those who do. I don't like tobacco myself but you wont find me calling you an asshole just because you smoke it. So don't insult, and you wont be insulted. Digïtál £vîl
LOL, once i get my degree, im gonna make more money than what your family has made in the last 5 years. Hahahahahahahaha. ^ See that? That is me laughing at your childish dreams of succeeding beyond me. Unless you plan to start making more then a lawyer, I really doubt you will ever make as much money as me. I am farther along at obtaining my degree then you are and on top of that I am heading to Law school which bumps my obtainable income even higher then a stupid BA or BS that you may obtain. Those two facts put me in a higher income bracket then you. Guaranteed.

I mean I know they would do it but wouldn't weed be allowed to be grown like corn and wheat in extreme amounts therefore driving the prices down ? Probably not. The government would put regulations on it, it would end up like cigarettes. It would become corporate only, and taxes would drive it up. I am against the legalization of it 100%. I can already get it easily with it being illegal...

Otter
...that's not really a logical argument. See, the real power of weed is the 'fear factor' that all politicians rely on to become champions for their constituents. Same things as Salvia - there is no "danger," but fear sells - not only newspapers, but entire political careers are built out of "defending" the people from drugs. So, I don't think it has anything to do with a lack of revenue. There's no money to lose in the process.

It is all about the money, our political system is based on who can make the most money by screwing over the most people. Just look at the leaders and such... (Talking USA by the way...) AZSupraT
Making pot legal would not be a gain to the government. Because they're the ones who lose with this. The Government will no longer have to apprehend marijuana. This means dope dealers will go bankrupt, and that pot will be sold in any Gas Station around the world. They would even make brands for it and mary would become manufactured in factories. This would also mean that the factories will add nicotine to addict the smoker, and many chemical products to make a weed cigarette burn faster, so that the smoker buys more cigarette packs. That way the factory makes more money, even if weed is cheaper now. The flavor would also change, because of the chemicals. No, no. I dont think anyone would benefit from weed becoming legal. Unless you can smoke it like we do now.
Otter
There's a lot of money to be made for lobbyists in favor of marijuana, however, in the form of private interests. Imagine the consumer possibilities for legal weed - everything from simple pipes and bongs (legal here, not sure about most states) to f*cking Sarah Lee Cupcakes. Like AZSupraT said too, they will be like cigarettes. But those corporations don't pass the legalization bill, the government does. I see no profit for the government if they legalized it. Unless the make it legal, but regulate the sale and growth of it, but even then it would be too much of a hassle, and people would still grow and buy illegally. Any way you put it, the smoker loses, and so does the government. The only ones to profit are the CEOs that would be lining their pockets with worthless money, wearing a green blindfold so they can't see what they are doing to the world. f*ck Legalization. Digïtál £vîl
Actually, the government could make a lot of money regulating and taxing it for medicinal purposes. They could also make money by taxing the recreational use of it. Even people who can grow it, don't necessarily want to. They would prefer simply smoking it and not take the money or time to grow it. If that is the case, then the government could make money off of it. You also need to understand that if private corporations make money off of it, the government will get a bit of that money as well. The real reason it is not legalized is because of the giant issue and problems it would cause for government organizations like the DEA and such. Also, there is a whole side issue with the prison systems needing inmates to rent out to corporations to work as cheap labor for them. Honestly, it is amazing how many of our products packaging and such are made in prisons. It isn't simply license plates that they make anymore. The government loves making the American people pay taxes to support inmates while at the same time selling out the inmates for profit from the corporations. Seriously... Check it out, there is a whole issue of that kind of thing. I've been talking to someone lately who has been researching it for the past 5 years. The problem started out as far back as during the years after the Civil War. Edited May 26, 2008 by Digïtál £vîl
painkiller47
There is where we differ. I don't really see people buying from the government, when they can grow it themselves. They would have a personal stash, that would be a lot cheaper than buying the regulated stuff. I also think the government realizes this, so they know they won't make very much money. They are in it for the $$$, not the common good of the nation's people. What you say is right, that their is many other reasons it isn't legal. I also know what you mean, the corporations paying of government officials if it did happen. Digital Evil, we see it different because the way we view the world. I have an extreme negative outlook on life, thinking that the government is power/money hungry. I am fine with it illegal, since I can get it as it is, for cheaper than if it was legal. EDIT: This is where my posts will get slightly blurred and incoherent. I am high now, so I might start getting too political and my thoughts will get jumbled. Just bare with me.
