Your Favourite Cancelled TV Show

As Bender says about Star Trek in the Futurama episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before"; "Another classic science-fiction show cancelled before its time."

Too many TV shows with potential are cancelled well before they finish airing their first season. Personal favourites of mine for this category are Firefly, Journeyman and New Amsterdam. Though, I like Firefly the most to be honest.

However, this topic is for discussing any TV show that was brutally cancelled. Not something that went on for too long. And obviously not running shows and finished shows (such as Friends, etc.).

Show name Original Network/Station Brutally Cancellation Date Lasted Coming back?
Arrested Development FOX (US) 10 February, 2006 3 seasons; 53 episodes Yes, as one film.
Blakes 7 Blake's 7 (UK) 21 December, 1981 4 Seasons; 52 Episodes Yes, Sky TV (UK) have commisioned a new min-series to be in production shortly
Carnivale HBO (US) 27 March, 2005 2 seasons; 24 episodes No
Day Break ABC (US) 15 December, 2006 1 Season; 13 episodes No
Dead Like Me Showtime (US) 31 October, 2004 2 Seasons; 29 Episodes Yes, as one film
Farscape Sci-Fi Channel (US) 21 March, 2003 4 Seasons; 88 Episodes Yes, as a short mini series/Film, apparently another film in the process
Firefly FOX (US) Autumn, 2003 1 season; 15 episodes Yes, as one film; Serenity*.
Journeyman NBC (US) 2 April, 2008 1 season; 13 episodes No
Rome HBO/BBC (US/UK) 25 March, 2007 2 Seasons; 22 Episodes No.
Standoff FOX (US) 20 July, 2007 1 Season; 18 Episodes No.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip NBC (US) 28 June, 2007 1 Season; 22 Episodes No.
* denotes released post-cancellation films/episodes. Edited by Svip

The War at Home. So deliciously politically incorrect.

And Futurama, although I hear it's coming back.

Malcolm was cancelled? Seemed like that show had a very long run.

Mines would be The Jury on Fox. A great new take on the court drama, with some very well-crafted episodes, but for some reason, it was never brought back.

Shame, seeing as Fox seems content with sh*t shows, but when a good one comes along, they f*ck it up.

It did. It should've been longer tho'.

It did have an ending.

Too bad.

Jericho, after a shaky start, actually turned into a really awesome show. Shame it was axed.

Arrested Development could have run for another season, but that's debatable.

Huff was really cool. Died too young. And Journeyman was neat, too, from what I saw.

War at Home was so lame.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT

All that needs to be said.

But, also, Firefly.

Waht about shows you're glad were cancelled? That's too easy, I guess, but I really hated the new Flash Gordon. And I thought New Amsterdam was horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible.

I only caught on to Arrested Development within the last year. Many parts of that show were pure brilliance ("Stop licking my hand, you horse's ass!"), and I'm sad to see it have ended so abruptly.

Additionally, Early Edition was good, but that simply may have run its course. Also, MST3K.

Agreed, Michael Rappaport was plain corny in that show.

I disagree. As far as sitcoms go, it was pretty funny. Oddly preformed, which I think added to my attraction. The way he shouted/dictated all of his lines was awesome... so much better than your average sitcom performance.

I don't know, I just didn't think anything could've saved that show. Considering that, I generally really don't like sitcoms.

I remembered Grounded for Life. I thought that was funny.

Man, all of these shows were on Fox, haha.

Acknowledged.

My opinion was that this show had much potential to be humerous, but failed. Those random off-screen rants by Rappaport never seemed funny. Maybe because Rappaport is a comedian whose only really funny when he curses. I just kept watching and waiting for him to drop an F bomb, but it never happened, so I said screw it all.

The one part I did like was the son whose best friend was secretly gay and had a major crush on the son. They had some funny moments with that.

As already said, Firefly, without a doubt.

Glad they're making an Arrested Development movie, love the series, need to get the DVDs. inlove.gif

And, a very guilty pleasure of mine I should not admit; Life As We Know It.

Fell in love with it because my ex used to watch it. blush.gif

Did class programs like The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Reaper get picked up for a second series...?

Yeah, they're both coming back. As well as Pushing Daisies, thank god. That's a cute show.

And, better late than never, We'll get short episodes of Rescue Me for a while before the next season ('minisodes') and The Shield will be back for a final season. Both are AWESOME shows, if'n y'all haven't seen 'em.

I thought it was great! Maybe because Summer Glau (River from Firefly) is in it... biggrin.gif

@Otts, I've been buying The Shield DVDs and not watching them. Love it as well though, just need to get fired back into them.

Yeah, I liked the one where he was a hero and all that.

Also, Dutch (the name) makes me think of Dirty Sexy Money, which is also ace.

Also reminds me, need to buy the Six Feet Under boxset! cry.gif

Or the episode where the killer really gets in his head, and he ends up strangling the cat.

I highly recommend Rescue Me, as well. It's a really brilliant show.
