Tha Pirateninja
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but this is not a complaint thread, only one for speculation. Why did R* remove the Mp5 from GTA IV and replace it with an Mp10? The Mp5 is a better weapon, a more common weapon, a more used weapon, and a more practical weapon. The Mp5 is the SMG of choice for many Special Operations team, and law enforcement. It would have made more sense for the N.O.O.S.E SMG than the Mp10, a weapon that is used far less since it isn't nearly as practical. Also, I think the Mp5 even looks cooler (that was just opinion ). So, why do you think R* made such an illogical decision? They had to have had a good reason, I know they wouldn't just throw it out. My personal theory was licensing issues. The Mp5 that was taken out. http://media.gtanet.com/images/3348_gtaiv_...lic_heckler.jpg
Rashon.
I actually thought it still was an MP5 but really it looks extremely similar to the MP5s of Vice City and Vice City Stories except that the front is longer as seen here. I really see no problem, though.
Mr. Someguy
What makes you think that it's an MP10? The only different is the MP10 is chambered for the 10mm round instead of the 9mm. The only difference I notice, is the MP5 in-game is silver instead of black.
Tha Pirateninja
An Mp5 An Mp10 Similar, but still different, and the Mp10 is obviously the one in GTA IV, not the Mp5. The fact of the matter is that Mp10 are rarely used compared to the Mp5, one of the more used SMGs out there. There is no logical explanation of why R* would choose the Mp10 over the Mp5, it just doesn't make sense.
Mr. Someguy
Perhaps just because it looks much cooler than the MP5.
zeno52
Really good question. How could it be a licensing issue, though? MP10 is also H&K, correct? And I'm not even sure you need to get licensing for guns in games. As long as you don't call them by their name, I'm pretty sure you can use their likeness. Much like how a lot of racing games have exact ripoffs of real life cars but call them by different names.

A high profile weapon like the Mp5 is harder than a less known one like the Mp10. I know R* didn't license the actual names of the weapons, and I don't know about likenesses. If it's not licensing, then why wouldn't R* go with the all around smarter choice of an Mp5?
brz59
I haven't heard nothing about a weapon called MP10 (isn't it the same as MP5?), I think the sub-machine gun in GTA IV is UMP. pic: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm.../d6/HKUMP45.JPG
zeno52
Yeah, I don't have the game in front of me to see what the icon and in-game weapon actually look like... The licensing theory does make the most sense, but I don't understand why they would need to license un-named guns to begin with.

I'm playing right now (computer and 360 in same room) and the diagram/symbol/whatever definitely matches with the Mp10 displayed in my other post. @brz59 : The reason you haven't heard of the Mp10 is because it is rarely used, less practical than it's Mp5 brother, and not as effective as the Mp5. Oh, and it's definitely not an UMP.
-nikobellic-
maybe they wanted to have an original weapon, like Bond's P99, Fisher's 5.7, etc..
Tha Pirateninja
maybe they wanted to have an original weapon, like Bond's P99, Fisher's 5.7, etc.. Possible and one of the few plausible theories. But if that was the case, then we wouldn't have the Ak-47, M4 Carbine, Glock, Desert Eagle, PSG-1, bla bla bla you get the point.

-nikobellic-
kinda off-topic, but there were rumors about a secret weapon, has anything like that been found?
pinky
It's not even an MP10, it's a pisstake of an MP5 Surefire. There is a torch that deosn't even work below the barrel. With an MP5k magazine too, although it hasn't reduced the ammo to 15 rounds.
AntiPersonnel
ive never heard of an MP10. H&K doesnt make a gun named the MP10 either. in the book Rainbow Six the guns they used are referred to as MP10's but it is actually an incorrect name for the guns they actually use which is the MP5/10 (just an MP5 chambered in 10mm) the gun in the pic looks like a made up airsoft gun. does anyone have a real-world link for the MP10 gun? Mr. Someguy
I think MP10 is just another way of saying MP5/10.
-nikobellic-
this gun sucks. I want my P90! Or in Niko's case, a scorpion would be more fitting. Edited May 19, 2008 by -nikobellic-

You can't use real guns, remember the guns in ps2 VC and than in the PC one? They weere alil' different and had different names. I think they realised that mp5 after changes to avoid licensing issues just didn't look good enough, so they put the mp 10 ripoff which looks cool. What's so great about the P90? its looks, ammo capacity and stopping power? p90s are not that great for the fact no ammo it takes a exotic ammo and i dont think your average run of the mill thug has 5.7 just laying on him
Swiechu
Also, that gun is expensive and quite hard to get, compared to an Mp5, Ingram, or Uzi.
AntiPersonnel
I think MP10 is just another way of saying MP5/10. not according to that pic that guy posted. it clearly says MP10 9mm on the receiver. the gun in the game is definitely NOT an MP5/10.
