atheistsw
Okay, enough is enough, I have had it with GTA and the sodding PS3. Tonight I set up a Team Mafiya game with 2 other friends, we were sat waiting in the room for other people to join, people filtered through, some joined, some left. So far, so good. THEN my mate just lost connection randomly. I phoned him, what you playing at, etc, he got the generic one size fits all connection to one or more players message. Fine, I sent him another in invite. GAME NO LONGER EXISTS. WTF? So, He hosts, I join, again, all seems well, we got double figures in the room, then I LOST CONNECTION. On the phone again, send me an invite. GAME SESSION NO LONGER EXISTS. This is clearly bullsh*t, since he's already started playing the game. So, my conclusion is this: Once you lose connection to a game mode then you cannot rejoin it. NOT EVER. This SUCKS and I gave up playing for the night. I'm so tempted to tell rockstar* to shove this game up their arse for their complete lack of help or acknowledgement of any of these issues. But I can't, because they did such a fantastic job on the single player game, and the MP has the POTENTIAL to be absolutely brilliant. But right now it's just frustrating and frankly, it's appaling. Dissimulation
It is starting to get annoying now, I must admit. A few days ago it was fine, only really had any connection issues once in every 30 or so games, but the last few days the connection drops after every couple games, or freezes and very rarely it stays on the Starting.. screen rather than going into the game. The console's brand new on launch day, the game has not left the machine so it's not scratched, nothing's changed with my router, ports are fine, upnp enabled, nat 2, so I assume it's down to server problems. I guess without dedicated servers, this is the risk you take.

Darrel
I know how you feel. Its not on. I can only play games if i host myself. Every game i try to join i get that really really annoying message "Couldnt connect to one or more players" Its f*cking bullsh*t now.

wesserdoo
According to Take2, the "lost connection to one or more players" message is caused by people's routers and the chipsets inside them. They also said there's no way around it and they aren't allowed to name any routers that do work. I think they're just avoiding the fact that they have a serious problem and don't want to deal with it.

Niall_S
Ah well. Atleast they're doing something about it. It just takes time. They said they wanted this game to last years, it wouldn't make sense to leave the MP as bad as it is now.
SWEETSAPRIK
I guess I must be lucky because I'm having no issues whatsoever. Same. I mean I won't say the problem has to be on these people's end, as I've had problems with other games in the past, knew it wasn't on my end, and had everyone who wasn't having a problem say that it was. But I've only had that "disconnecting from one or more players" error a few times. Most of the time I play with no problems, I mean more than 99% of the time I play with no trouble, and when I do have a problem I just join another game. Hopefully anyone who's problem is on their end will figure out how to fix it, and anyone who's problem isn't will get help from Take2. If it helps, I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL router running Tomato firmware. I'm using it as a wireless access point, DHCP, and all my playing happens over wireless, using TKIP/AES, WPA2 personal. For the people having problems, what kind of router are you using? Original firmware? What are some of your settings? If it is a specific router or chipset, or anything not on their side for that matter, we should be able to at least narrow it down a bit if the people having problems list their setups. thebritishbulldog
Cheers for the input sweets... I started a thread about the router, settings etc, so I could start to get a handle on what the issue is. I know a bit about networking and have setup a few in my time in my working capacity. My setup uses a ZXyel 660HW modem router with up-to-date firmware, static DHCP, NAT, a DMZ on the PS3's static internal IP address and UPnP is enabled. The wireless is encrypted with WPA2. I have over the past few days done detailed ports scans, traceroutes and everything you can think of to find out the cause of the problem. I have run a report at dslreports and got an "a=okay" for my setup. I have no dropped packets, no ports blocking UDP or TCP traffic, no bottlenecks, no firewalls getting in the way. I even thought that some of the ports might be being filtered by my ISP as P2P, but they have confirmed that they don't filter any traffic. I have even reduced the MTU down to 1300 to build in some redundancy but I still get the "connection to one or more..." error. I even thought about interference from other devices and so changed the wireless frequency. My wireless strength is 70-90% Nothing has improved the problem. I am stumped. And unless I don't know what I am talking about I am sure its the servers or the software NOT my network (which has worked perfectly for years.) Please someone tell me I'm wrong. Edit: The only thing I haven't tried which I just thought of is enabling port address translation alongside NAT, but in my experience this can be more problematic than using NAT solely. I'll give it a go when I get home. Edited May 21, 2008 by thebritishbulldog

matt10k
It's been doing it a lot with me today. Very annoying, especially when you're just about to finish a game and it cuts out then.
thebritishbulldog
http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=350863 Please complain to rockstar as they don't know there is a problem. ALl of us having issues are having exactly the same issues: We can not join many MP quick games ("connection to one or more.....") We can not join invited games ("that game session is no longer....") We CAN host games only! If we don't start complaining, nothing is going to be fixed. Phone them NOW!
Arthur Hucksake
The worst of all this, I cancelled my 360 version pre-order at the last minute and went down to a midnight opening to pick up a PS3 version instead. Everytime I sign onto XB Live now, most of the people on my friends list are enjoying GTA IV online and it really did get me thinking. This is my first real in depth experience of a PS3 game online and it's totally spoilt it for me. Pretty much forced into buying 360 versions of multi-platform titles from now on. I'm not intended to flamebait here, but it's gutting that a huge segment of this game is unusable removing any longevity it would have had. I'm going to lose money on trading in the PS3 version and then rebuying a 360 copy.
BlackMilk
The first 2 or so days me and my brother had a problem with not getting a connection to MP at all for hours on end, leaving a small window of opportunity to play and get our (at that time still) collective rank up. But nowadays I hardly have any issues. Every now and then there's the error of losing connection to one or more players but that's not constant and hardly ever happens. I wonder why first, the patch came and everybody's rank was restored, except for mine until later, and that now a lot of people have connection issues but I'm not. What's going on?
