Hi all, im new to this forum but ive been reading the topics for a few months, im a huge gta fan but have to wait till crappy exams are over till i can finish the game!

anway for my media exam i have to write an essay on how video games affect teenagers and adults in negative and positive ways

so could you post you views on how gta4 affects your life in negative and positive ways, could be anything minor to major, or even how that idiot jack thompson views it lol

thanks

(it should say your not yout in the title)

Annoyed because i can't complete a mission because i get the cops on me after i fire a single bullet in a shoot out, even when there are like 10 guys all shooting at me and the cop just walks by!

the only impact it has on my REAL life is talking about the game. Although just today I was walking home with my GF, and reached into my pocket to put my phone on 'sleep mode' incase someone annoying called me'. She laughed at me lol. but that was just for a second or so, I didn't actually do it moto_whistle.gif

JT is just a complete idiot, just like those few people who do bad things in real life and say 'oh GTA or whatever game made me do it' to try and get off easier, that or they are just seriously messed up and shouldn't be allowed out in public never mind playing semi violent games.

edit: d'oh

It helps me manage my money correctly.

It also taught me that taking corners at high speeds is a big no-no.

Its actually a stress reliever for me. If i'm having a bad day i can go on GTA or any violent game and shoot ppl beat ppl and get my anger out that way. Instead of doing that to some random victim lol.

About the only thing it does to me is make me talk about it way too much and get my friends who don't have it annoyed.

Well before it was released I had a few days of excitement waiting for it.

Since i've had it, I find it a great way to relax after a long day at work. Like any good game, it provides entertainment and you can temporarily forget all the hassles and stress in your life. That is how it affects me.

NO it hasn't changed my personality. I DO NOT feel the need to go on a killing spree.

It just give me one hell of a good time. That's it. No positive points, the game doesn't teach me anything besides that I can make easy money by helping the Mafia.

But it's filled with negative points, I don't sleep too well for about two weeks playing the damn game, I don't draw anything in at least one week and my grades are awful, they normaly are, but I need at least a 7 tomorrow and I haven't read a single page, in short, I'm fuc*ed big time.

gta makes me drive in real life like a complete Twat!

Also, i get major headaches after playing for about 2 hours straight.. . .

I get muscular twitches mainly forearms and biceps, also get twitches in my left eye.

I believe i have a serious attitude problem and anger problems whilst playing this game, e.g when i fail a mission. Someone runs me over, as said a few posts ago when you fire one bullet and next thing you know you got a 5 star wanted level.

Never used to have these issues after playing any games, just came on as i got older, i am 18 now, been playing gta for many of years since the first one came out.

The only effect is talking about it to much and not enough sleep most of the time

To me its just a game. but im happy it does not mess with my driving ability in real life, that would suck.

Also it makes me want to play more GTA and smoke some weed cool.gif

It doesn't affect me at all. I am on Xbox Live more however but that's only because i like chatting with my friend when he's on it.

I'm sort of addicted to it, but no so addicted that i don't want to leave my house like some of my friends had when they played COD4.

It's just a game, we are all responsible for our own actions.

I was told that I was responsible for my own action the first thing I did wrong in pre-school. . . I guess we have gone a different rout in America since then. On a side note, our fascist leader, W, has proven that there are no consequences for our actions. Sorry, I forgot to use the <sarcasm> feature.

Either way, let's stop thinking that video games cause violence. The last time I saw a video game get up out of it's dvd case and hurt some one, I was trippin' hella balls.

It only bothers me when I can't directly correlate a car to it's real life counterpart.

I've played the GTA series since I was a young kid (around 9-10). Getting into GTA3, I had just turned 14 ... and I'll be 21 now next month. Growing up, it certainly didn't make me more violent, prone to commit crimes, or anything like that. I've always been very mellow and laid back and playing a violent game never changed that.

I would say that it affected my driving skill. I fully believe that I'm a better driver because of GTA3 and Vice City. When I was 16 I got my license and in the first week I was driving on a wet road and my back end started to kick out as I took a turn too hard. I corrected, my Dad was in the car, and he said, "How did you know to correct the car like that? To turn into the turn?" It must have been GTA. smile.gif

At this point, playing GTA4 and going into the real world is pretty surreal as the game looks so much like reality. I do believe that as we get closer to videogames that better mimic what real life is like, it'll be harder to make the disconnect between a real life and an in-game life.

The other day I sat in a pizza shop on a second-story building looking out the window at a busy intersection. People coming and going, cars, police cruisers, motorcycles, scooters ... it was enough like GTA that I almost felt like giving God a thumbs-up for making IRL so much like GTA.

The other night it was wet outside and as I came out of my office I saw someone pull a handbreak turn into a side street (perfectly executed in fact!). This is the first time (apart from a race track) I've seen someone hand break turn a car on normal roads, only a week or two after GTA4 came out - coincidence? I don't think so! tounge.gif

wow your just like me but older, i dont see how video games and movies give bad ideas, but , they do, dont blame the game or film, blame the damn kid for being stupid enough to do it, its this sorta thing thats gunna stop other brilliant games coming out, i hate the way the news blames stuff on films and games

'a 3 year old kicked a 15 year old in the balls today becasue of video games!'

no mr stupid news reader, the 3 year old kicked him because the teenager stole his cookie, wouldnt you?

(i'm mega b****ing)
