How does the police evasion work?

I am still not sure how exactly it works. I know you can get outside the searching radias but what happens if you hide and stay in the radius do the police give up looking for you after a while?

i dont think they ever give up as long as you are inside the radius, except if you go into a pay n spray. even if they no longer know where you are.

 

it seems the cops just hang out with sirens on until someone finds you. you have to exit the radius in order for them to give up

No they stay on you if you stay in the zone, the only escape is (as we know) to get out of the radius.

The search radius should be on a timer.

Also how does the changing cars thing work. I done it once where no one saw me and all that seemed to happen is police no longer tried to cut me off.

the stars will not go away if u r in the flashing circle, once u leave the circle the stars will flash, and eventually go away, if a cop spots u while they r flashing when u r outside of the circle, u will be placed in the middle of the circle andthe cops will come again, however...if u r in the circle and the stars are greyed out, then u can enter a pay and spray

 

 

alternatively u can go into ur safehouse and save your game, then the stars will be gone

r u talking about if while u have grey stars, and u get into a different car then they should go away....if thats wat u mean idk about that

i tried it before. but the stars stayed on although no more police cars appeared to chase me.

well , i did that on GTA IV , SA and VC and they all crashed

i haven't really tested it much... but i've switched cars a few times and had police cars drive right past me with sirens blaring. heading towards the centre of the search area.

 

but i'm guessing that if you're out of police line of sight (gray stars), you can switch vehicle or change appearance and the police won't recognise you.

 

i find it a really exciting challenge to get 4-5 stars on you and try to escape, it's intense. one time i tried to escape in helicopter, but it seems you can never break line of sight so the search area keeps following you around... would be too easy i guess.

That's just, if you do that, they won't see its you (only if you act normal), so you can easily drive out of the circle.

I tried doing that, it never works for me. Infact, I switched to a taxi once, and when I passed the cops again, I got a third star.

the whole changing cars thing seems to be a bit of hit & miss for me. The first time I tried it, I was on 4 stars and trying hard to lose the cops, it got to the point where the nearest patrol cars were streets away. So I changed cars and drove casually out of the search radius. But other times, I have changed cars with cops well out of sight and upon passing one of them, they knew it was me! (although one of the times I ran over a ped as a cop car was passing lol.)

 

So I think, if you change cars when they're not near you, take it easy and still try to avoid passing them while concentrating on getting out of the radius.
