Multi player observations

OK I ventured online for the first time yesterday and just wanted to share some thoughts (sorry if already covered but just my two penneth):

- Lobby's are very slow to add people to games(I see other threads on this so clearly needs sorting)

- The weakness of the control system is really exposed, can be really hard on finger and thumbs flitting between aim, cover and fire ...feels cumbersome even after being used to it

- Auto aim takes away a lot of the skill just hold trigger from distance e.g. no point hiding behind a bush or something and cannot get close enough for shotguns or hand to hand. For some reason most games seem to have auto on.

- Likewise the blip system makes stealth pretty much impossible, though the flipside with it off I guess is that everyone gets lost on a big map

- Gets tiresome chasing after guns around the map

Overall it was quite fun at times but frustrating, maybe its just adjustng after the exhillerating adrenaline fest of COD4

I know GTA is mainly about single player so anything multi is a bit of a bonus but can't help feeling a little disappointed with it as the idea of it was better in my mind than reality. I haven't tried all gaming modes yet though so perhaps it gets better.

The lobby point is totally valid. Lobbies suck the way they are.

I like the control system a lot. I use the PS3, and I think it's very fluid to use. I don't like the 360's controller, though.

You can turn auto-aim off, and I've noticed that most games actually have it off - but then they have a stupid weapon, like rocket launchers only, or the mode is set to 60 minutes or first to reach $50,000. But if you're good without AA, you have the advantage with it.

The blips can be set to far, which lets you see where your enemies are on a large scale. That way you don't get lost looking for people. Once you get close, then, all you see is the circle with their color and name - nothing on the minimap. The gamertag circle can also be turned off.

Gunchasing is horrible, I'll give you that. Especially when someone has a powerful weapon and you can't get to the assault rifles.

Blip to far sounds good, I was in probably 10-15 games yesterday where blip and auto aim was always on. So I created my own game and turned both off but then the few people I managed to get in the game got lost and quickly left.

One question - If the gamertag is switched off how can you tell other gamers from peds? (or is that the idea!?)

Even when turned off there is still a coloured circle above everyone's head. Just not the name.

But setting blips to off is a bad idea anyway. It needs to be far - otherwise if you're playing on a big map like all of Algonquin, it's pretty much impossible to find the other teams.

Most people have flamboyant clothing anyway. Not many peds sprint through the streets in bright red clothing with a helmet on. Or not many peds are zombies. smile.gif

Also, crouching hides the dot as well.

Crouching hides your colour on the radar?

Not on the radar, just on the screen. I'm talking about the dot over your head before your name.

Like this:

O Erados

It would be hidden and you'd look like a crouching pedestrian. Blip is on the map, gamertag is on the screen.

Things I hate:

-No traffic on respawns. It sucks sucks sucks when you've just died, there's a mission or turf point or what have you somewhat close (but no close enough to get there on foot) and you have to spend valuable time waiting for cars to spawn so you can grab one. It's a freaking ghost town for the first minute or so, and it's really frustrating. Especially when someone else crosses the map before you finally get a car. Grrrrr!

-I hate the lobby system as well, sitting and waiting for someone who for all I know is taking a nap to start the game sucks. So I figure, I'll start my own game... and no one joins. The invite thing is ok, but until people figure out how to access invites from inside other games (it took me a while to think to use the phone) it isn't very effective.

-What is going on with the level stuff? I was level 5 yesterday, I log in today and I'm 0 again.

-Achievements. I read about them, how do I see which ones I have? If there is a way, it isn't obvious to me.

Edit: The gamertag: I hate being in a car with someone whose gamer tag takes up 1/3 of the screen. Do they have to be so prominent?

You're telling me; I discovered that it's the quickest way (along with turning "friendly fire" off) to ward off others. Then again, if annihilation of one's opponent (or co-operative) isn't the goal of the particular mode that you're participating in, why allow radar in the first place?
