Lit3
When I try to go online, I am either put into an empty lobby where no one enters, or I do get in a game, but then get kicked out saying that I have lost connection to one or more players. The thing is, online mode works perfectly on any of my other games such as COD4 and Fifa 08, but just fails on GTA4. What could be wrong, and does anyone else have this problem? Valterra
I have had the same problem. Mine had something to do with a strict router. I got a new one for 50 bucks that was compatible with XBL. I use a wired connection so my Model No. was EBR2310.
Lit3
Thing is, I don't really want to change my router, since I haven't had it long. By the way, I'm playing on the PS3, was ment to mention that in the first post. Do you know if Rockstar knows about these problems?
Crymzen
im guessing your wireless?? either ps3 or xbox you gotta make sure youve got an open NAT if not online play wont work to the potential its got...ummm you could try reseting your router..make sure you got a secure conection i.e its locked to you and no other pc's,laptops etc..out side of your house can feed of the conection...make sure nothing interfearing with the conection...theres alot of possibilities as to why it can happen..sometimes its just small things..i had the same problem when i first got halo but then realised i didnt haave an open NAT got one now and i have no problems
Valterra
Has your router been working on other games? There are three settings such as Strict, moderate, and Open.
Lit3
My router is indeed wireless, and it does work on all my other games I go online with. And what is 'Strict', 'Moderate' and 'Open'?
Crymzen
hmm although wireless i believe is the bets way to go it does have its sh*tty little f*cking problems...what router have you got is it like maxed range..best router for gaming i think is the one i got.netgear range max...just check if you got an open NAT,check if anything is interfearing...even a washing machine can interfear. was playing halo one time and got major lag becuase of my damn washing machine.lol
Lit3
I think it is this router: Belkin Wireless N Modem Router (Not sure if it is the exact same model, can't find the box). It's range is fine, and nothing is interfering with it, especially not a washing machine. But I don't know if it has that 'NAT' thing, how can I find out? Valterra
Your NAT limits you from going into your friends game. Or any other game. I had a strict router before but could still find games because of it randomization of players for multiplayer search(COD4 AND Halo3).
Lit3
Okay, I just checked my PS3 and it has NAT type 2 open. Is that good or bad?
Valterra
Did you Switch it to open? or was it like that?
Lit3
Well, I've not switched anything, it just says that the NAT is type 2.
Valterra
ehhh.... If you connect your direct internet from cable to your xbox(I brang a small color tv to test it) My old router was a LINKSYS.Type 1: Connected directly to the Internet Type 2: Connected to the Internet via a router Type 3: Connected to the Internet via a router With type 3, it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3™ systems, and voice / video chat and the communication features of games may be restricted. Lit3
So which type is best, and is it possible to get type 1 from a wireless router?
Valterra
Yes it is you can switch it by using your main computer and search for the routers connected to your internet. I am not sure how to do it because my 19 year old cousin did it for me.
Valterra
I would recommend by using this one here.
Lit3
It looks good, but like I said, I don't really want to buy a whole new router just for one game.
