Why I like GTA: SA more than GTA: IV

So I've been playing GTA: IV for a while now, haven't finished it yet... don't want to finish it too soon... but I must say, I've played long enough to say that I enjoyed SA more than IV.

 

IV really has some great realism, which is a part I really like about IV. But there are things why I like SA more.

 

What I really liked about San Andreas was the atmosphere of the game. I am a huge fan of old school Rap, so you might have guess what my Radio was at all the time... R A D I O L O S S A N T O S. I know that IV is based on the '08 or something, but there's this Classics channel that plays Rap too but it's really sh*t I mean, everytime I tune in to Classics I just get the some song everytime again. What's up with that?

 

Also, Niko Bellic is a great character. But I enjoyed the "black man/ghetto/gangster" stuff alot more. You had a neighbour that was based off of Eazy-E - my favorite Rapper of all time - and a gang running around in green clothes. Just awesome. In GTA: IV it's all about being a guy that's working for every random criminal in Liberty City just cause he needs the money. No no, I like the gangster stuff alot more, where you build up a gang and attack other gangs, fighting for more "hood".

 

What I also loved to do was hitting the Gym. Your CJ could turn out either skinny, fat, chubby, or an Arnie. Also the Barber, and Tattoo shops. I loved how you could make CJ look exactly the way you wanted him to.

 

Now I'm not saying IV sucks, there's some great things in it. Like the system in the Police cars, the Taxi where you can fully enjoy the trip, the Helitour. And the City also turned out very nice. The realism in IV is of course alot better than in SA. But what I really miss, is a great story. I felt San Andreas had it all.

 

I'm not sure how close I am to finishing IV, but once I have, I will probably start SA for the 3rd time again, instead of GTA IV for the second time with reverted killing choices.

well though I disagree with it this is the best and most logical 'complaint' topic out there. You like san andreas pureley for preferance and only a few feature that (in your mind) improve it i.e. gang terrirtory. I MUCh prefer the new eastern european gritty new york than the gangster style. But then again...just my opinin.

Though I like Rap music, I did not like the gangster/rap theme in San Andreas at all. The story line in GTA4 is superb, and of course I thought the mafioso story in Vice City rocked.

 

Being able to customise the player keeps coming up a lot, sure it might be a "fun" extra but its not something I miss at all. Saints Row had the feature to get tats and shape your body, I didn't spend hours doing that... I used it once or twice and then got on with the game. Don't see how GTA4 lacks anything without that in the game.

That's one thing that I forgot to add to my original post, as well as some other things but I was in a hurry to finish it cause I had to leave.

 

I also miss the Casino's for example.

 

But like I said, this is not a SA > IV topic. I can name a few things of IV which I really liked. For example the computer with which you can access the "internet". The more realistic mobile phone, where you can download your own themes and ringtones. Of course the police system, taxi and helitour which ive already mentioned. Being drunk in IV is very realistic. Driving is alot more realistic, and what about stealing a car that's parked? The way the window gets bashed in is really realistic.

 

The story is not bad at all, and I really like Niko's character. But like ive said before, SA had the atmosphere that I love. The music Radio Los Santos plays is the kind of music I play myself everyday. Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop, N.W.A., Comptons Most Wanted, etc. And that, along with being a small gang trying to take out rival gangs really made it a perfect game for me.

 

Customise your player is not "just something" in my opinion. You had many ways to customize your char in SA. Not just the clothes that you have in IV. I liked running around with no top on an my muscled body beating people up.

 

And the Big Foot and Leatherface Myths were something that added even more fun to SA... I have yet to see a good Myth pop up in IV that literally makes thousands of people search for it.

I noticed the amount of bash threads with no real explanation or no valid points (like "GTA: IV SUX CAUSE IT HAS NO GYM!!!!") I guess that's why I felt forced to register and write why I like SA over IV...

I mean you seen CJ move up in the world from a tiny clu de sac to a nice big massion and you aqquired business along the way and helped those business become sucssful, i LOVED the bike, car and plane school in SA and was so disapointed to not see them in IV i was expecting to get a nice shiny new jet to jump out of and try and land in the middle of the army base with my parachute.

 

I brought a 360 just for GTA IV and feel like i wasted lots of money in doing so not tried online yet.

 

I think ever since GTA I they have learnt and made them better keepin the good features from previous ones and using them in the next version of the game but i think they removed alot of things people liked in the old game and replaced them with afew things when they should have kept those and made more.

See here Rockstar went for REALISM, it wouldn't be realistic for an Eastern European guy to arrive in America and within two weeks take over New York Completely. You're lucky you even get a Penthouse in GTA IV, as for Jets, well that's obvious, everything is much more scaled now, a Jet would be f*cking huge and where would you fly it?

I like SA more because it's just a way more fun game and has way more things to do IMO. GTA is not a realistic game at all. The majority of the things in GTA is unrealistic yet people keep saying GTA IV is super realistic. Just because it adds more realism doesn't make it more mature or realistic than past GTAs.

 

GTA SA was said to be the most gritty and realistic GTA before IV and yes IV is a tad more realistic but I wouldn't call it anymore mature than III,VC or SA. Also this is a video game and if you want it to be so realistic then go commit the crimes in real life. Video games are meant to be an escape from real life not a real life sim. Hell the Sims isn't even that realistic. The things from past GTAs could easily fit into IV but just some people think it wouldn't work while others think it could.

i like SA, but going back to it now after playing gta 4 feels weird. Im sittin here runnin around expectin my guy to get hit by a car n fly, or to fly out the windsheild, or have real good looking crash models on the cars, but instead its just the basic do nothing crashes that are boring, and where your guy moves like a stick figure after getting hit. I like SA theme better n everything but because of gta 4s effects n everything i think its better

Yeah i loved the whole Gangsta! kinda thing in SA because like you... I love old school west coast hip hop, but not as much as east, but IV is just a way more interesting, sophisticated game than SA because of many things like the, storyline, physics, characters, friends. ETC....

ye i must agree i love both games but i had more stuff to do in SA when i completed it fun in jets casinos parachuting. in IV you can play pool qub3b and get drunk it bores me and i rnt a fan of the online feature on this but both great games love all GTA games

Since we're stating opinions here, I must agree, that San Andreas was more fun, and that the whole 'era' and everything it had fit together great. Even though I do enjoy some aspects of IV, its not as 'fun'. [Not saying IV is a bad game.]

I don't care which game has a better realistic gameplay. Like I said, IV definately kills SA when it comes to gameplay, cause it is indeed better. But the atmosphere sucks. Niko Bellic is just like Claude, a guy that works for anyone and everyone.

 

In San Andreas, you are the head of a gang. You recruit people, drive a car into the enemy hood while the Radio is playing "Deep Cover" from Snoop and Dre, blow the enemy hood up and become the new owner of it. That's what I love. Hence why I tried to use the exploit where you endlessly fly in the sea and "unlock" gang territory in the 2nd and 3rd cities on my PC, which I eventually gave up cause it was too hard to do on the PC since Rockstar had "fixed" it.

 

If you can't see from my posts that I agreed IV was indeed a great game, but liked the atmosphere in SA more than IV's, then you are ignorant and simple-minded.

However, on paper, I prefer the idea of a gritty, raining, dirty new york, possibly because its more similar to London, but I really dont feel the game pulled this off at all. Everyone seems to go on about a "living, breathing city" and it's atmosphere, but LC just seems stale to me. It all seems very clean and sanitary, unthreatening and uninspired.
