What I love about GTA IV

4. The attention to little details.

5. The easter eggs that wouldn't make sense in a game not made by R*.

6. The way the cars control.

7. The way the peds react to you.

8. The way the storyline ties up great.

9. The way thousands of cops go after you at five stars.

10. The feeling you get when you get to Lady Liberty's Heart and shoot it with an RPG.

11. The way you feel for the characters.

12. The feeling you get when you realize what the f*ck is happening, exactly.

13. The way you feel when you see your first sunrise in LC, almost covered by the polluted air.

14. The way you feel when you see the fires above the Alderney factories.

15. The way you cry when you see Roman die when you do the wrong thing.

16. The way you feel when you first access the In-Game internet.

17. The fits of laughter you get when you receive a 4-star wanted level after going to the Little Lacy Surprise site.

18. The nostalgic moments at the Mini Golf Course and Cerveza Heights.

19. The feeling you get when you see cutscenes and places you've seen in the trailers - in context.

20. The way you feel when you make the largest insane stunt jump or whatever they're called with 6 stars and have dozens of cops follow you just to fall into the water and die.

Oh, and number 19 for sure. I remember seeing one of the first screens/trailer seens of the taxi rounding a corner of some buildings...and I saw it in the game. I just sat there and stared at it for awhile and said, "This is too awesome."

You beat me to it. I was just going to create a "10 reasons why GTA IV is the best GTA so far" thread. But, I'll just put it here. I wil just say why the game is great & not compare it to the others. These are in no particular order.

 

1) TV, Cabaret & Comedy Club: I could spend hours just watching the acts & tv shows. They are brilliant. Kat Williams is hilarious as is Ricky Gervais.

2) Making friends has benefits. Sure, it's annoying to get phone calls when you're just trying to get to the Heliport. But in the end it's worth it. They all give you some special abilities & you get to learn about these characters along the way too. Which bring me to the next point.

3) The characters are the best seen so far. Never mind that Nico is easily the best lead character in the series, but the supporting characters are equally phenomenal. The voice-acting is top notch & each character has his/her own background story. Excellent work.

4) The cars. The driving physics are realistic & precise. The car damage is spot on. And the many varieties of cars available make finiding the one you like the most a reward in itself.

5) Helicopter control. Finally!!! You can tilt forward & hold down the gas to fly in a straight line. You let go, & the copter hovers. Give it gas & it goes up. Flying with a copter is now super-precise.

6) The most wanted "vigilante" missions. Now you feel like a real vigilante, rather than just going after the crooks in the cars, we now get to go to their hideouts & in some cases, take out their entre gangs. And besides the most wanted, you can just go after crooks in your neighborhood.

7) The mini-games. Bowling, darts & pool. All work perfectly and are fun to play.

8) Details on everything. I could drive around for hours & hours & admire what seems to be a live city. Small details, like the Unisphere or the Towers in Meadows Park. I've been to these places & apparently, the designers have too. They're perfect in every detail.

9) The people. Yes, not only is it great to come across those little green people that give you mini-missions, but the city itself is full of real people. Go to the park & you'll see people doing Tai Chi. You'll come across people using ATM machines, preachers talking in the middle of a block while holding a bible. These small details make Liberty City alive.

10) The internet. Email, dating, buying, the news. It's great to surf the fake web & it's hilarious too. They love poking fun at all the things that deserve it. And I love reading it.

 

I just want to say that for the people complaining that we lost parachutes or planes to forget that stuff & enjoy the new things we got. GTA IV is easily the best GTA to date. And I'm sure that the next ones will bring the bar up even higher.

I remember in freemode when I made a hasty escape from the 'kill everyone you see' kids and flew a helicopter towards the nuclear plants and oil refineries.... the flames coming out off the burn off pipes was great. I had to stop playing and actually look around so I landed on top of a nearby building and wham, a pretty sweet sunrise. I honestly just sat there in awe. I've never seen that done in a game, at least done well. Excellent game.
