Banana
Well I've been wanting to make a new forum but have been debating on what it should be about. I've been leaning towards a General chat or a music board while leaning away from gaming or resource. Any ideas?

Primer43
Whatever you decide, start it small. Don't make 30 forums with 2 posts in each. Once you get people. you can add to it.
Toadyd
I'd keep well away from a general board, there are too many already successful places for people to chat about nothing. Unless you can come up with something really unique that other people haven't tapped into yet its going to be very hard to get a good community growing. You might find it will start off ok, but people will rapidly discover there isn't much to do and then disappear never to be seen again. The same would apply to a music forum, unless you focus it on maybe one band who are small(ish) at the moment but look like they may grow quite big. Another possibility that can work because its really easy to promote. Do you live in a big town/city? A general community focused on where you live might work. (People can share local events, talk about local issues, meet old friends they've lost contact with, arrange to buy/sell) and its really easy to promote, you can tell all your friends, stick posters in local shops etc... The same would work for a local music site too possibly
Saggy
Whatever you decide, start it small. Don't make 30 forums with 2 posts in each. Once you get people. you can add to it. Whenever I've seen small boards with only a few forums, I never want to post or sign up. There's got be at least a little variety, a couple of forums with little to no posts. The way I've always seen it on small startup boards, people are usually eager to be the first to make a couple of new threads, and just really don't have an incentive to post otherwise. In the end I think it just kind of depends on the target audience. If it's supposed to be a place to appeal to everyone, there's already tons of those out there. It would be better if it catered to a small group of people, or maybe close friends, etc. QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration! Primer43
Yeah, I agree. I'm just saying that there would be no reason to make a board as big as, for example, GTAForums, when there are only ~20 users. As time grows you can always add new forums if need be.
