Despite having a relatively crummy graphics card, GTA3 runs pretty good on my system. The only time there's any discernable slow-down or lag is when it rains, and even then, it's not so bad as to detract from the fun of the game.

I just got a new Dell 4500 Dimension three weeks ago.  It has:

Pentium 4 @ 2.26GHz (2260Mhz)

256 of DDRRAM

40GB Hard Drive

Nvidia 64MB (DDRRAM) GeForce 2 MX/MX 440 w/TV Out

40x DVD-ROM

24x10x40 CD-RW Burner

Creative: SoundBlaster Live!

Harmon/Kardon Speakers :((w/o Sub)

Windows XP: Home Edition

My Monitor also refreshes at 85HRz, the highest it wiil go!

With all of this power under the hood, it LAGS!!! :furious:

If anybody could tell me how to opyimize the game for my system, contact me at:

[email protected]

It would help tremendusly <-(spelling).  I'm running, also brand new XP Detonators for my VGA card, and the 1.1 patch in the game.  I would not mind links to help, or just tips and tricks from you.  I run the game w/ the draw distance max, resolutions lowest, trails off, frame limiter on, frame sync off, and I usually listen to the MP# radio--pluss Ibeat the whole game--I can FREE ROAM!!!

Your video card is the problem.  A GeForce2 MX is three times faster than it.  A GeForce4 MX440 is six times faster than it.

System Spec:

AMD Athlon 1.03 GHz

256 Mb DDR RAM

IBM 60 Gb HDD 7200 rpm ATA 100

ATI RADEON 8500 (128 Mb DDR RAM version)

Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Pioneer 16X DVD ROM (slot)

OS:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Others:

NTFS file system

DirectX patched to v5.01.2600.0029

GTA3 patched to v1.1 + accessing audio files in hdd

running GTA3 in 1280x1024x32 resolution

Max Drawing Distance

Frame Limiter off

Widescreen off

Comments:

i find the game running better when i copied all *.wave files into the hdd since sometimes the game stutter when the DVD ROM starts to read sthg...  however i did this w/ my other comp which has a 5400 rpm hdd w/ SD RAM, the gameplay turn out to be awful

having a fast CPU, more than enough RAM, and a decent video card is the key point of running GTA3 in good graphics...  coz there is really no point playing the game in 640x480x16 since all the graphics feature will be awful...

the different of running the game in high/low resolution is the drawing distance...  when i set it to 1280x1024x32, the games generally run a bit slower, and the drawing distance reduced (even when i set it to max)...  when i set it to 640x480x32, the game is so smooth however graphics is a bit screwed up

by removing the Frame Limiter, the game runs better, but drawing distance reduced (i dunno y but it happened), rains and fog slows down the game, too much explosion/too much action (too many cops surrounding u) slows down the game as well...

the game generally runs fine in 1280x1024x32 w/ my system...  i guess the most heavy part of GTA3 is Staunton Island...  especially when i had turn on the PC for too long that both the CPU and video card gets overheated...

so for ppl who has problem running the game, try lower the resolution when u gets to Staunton Island, try to avoid doing massive action in rainy/foggy weather, reboot/cool down ur system often, and the game should runs better

Extra cooling fan (Help keep it goin fast)

Soundblaster Live 5.1 Channel sound card with some midi land speakers (They are ok)

While i am waiting for GTA3 im gonna be playing it on the ps2, i may be waiting for a long time... :sarcasm:   :sui:

Does GTA3 for PC able to use analog controllers like the ps2? E.g, like making it so he walks by pushing the analog a little bit then to run full throttle?

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+

Geforce 4 MX420 64mb

512mb DDR ram

30gb WD Hard drive

Windows ME

C-Media Audio Galaxy

I can run the game at 1280x1024x32 with full draw distance, trails on with Quincunx Anti Aliasing on, and the game never drops below 25fps, and that is looking up at all the building on staunton island, everywhere else i get around 30-60 fps

GTA3 v1.1 (sound on HD)

Res: 800x600x16

Draw: 5~6

Frame Limiter: OFF

Widescreen: OFF

Trails: OFF

I have no idea as to my FPS but it runs very smooth in Portland and SSV with the Draw at max. I have it at 5~6 so that all of Staunton is very smooth. I'll be getting a GeForce 3 in a little while so that should speed things up a bit. I'd leave Trails off when I get the GF3 anyway...it's kind of distracting.   :p

Geee? After reading everyone's system specs. I don't know how GTA3 will work my comp? I haven't purchased GTA3, but after reading about the games performance I am having second thoughts. Anyway if someone can tell how the game will run on my computer that would be great!

Pentium Celeron

44x Cd-rom Drive

I know my comp meets system requirements but I don't know how the game will run.

Hi there,

Pentium 4 2.0GHz @ 2667MHz

ASUS P4S533

256MB DDR RAM (333MHz)

Maxtor DiamondMaxPlus D740X 40GB ATA133 (7200)

MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4600

Sound Blaster Live 5.1

LG Flatron 795FT+ 17" (max. [email protected])

GTA works good, i really thought that it'd run better...

1. If i don't use the frame limiter GTA3 is everything else but smooth. I checked the framerate and in every resolution it was ok, but still i worked pretty bad

2. If i turn on trails in 1600x1200, there is a hugh bug at the bottom of the screen. Looks like transparent animated textures. I tried different drivers, but they didn't fix that bug

3. In 1600x1200 6xAA highest quality i get only ~15fps  :sui: , beside that the game works great

Motherboard:    Intel D845WN (Ethernet & Sound on board)

Graphics:       Nvidia GeFOrce 2 MX 400 TV/OUT 64mb

HD:             40 gb 7200 rpm

I have installed the latest drivers for the video card but i still have the same problem, GTA 3 can´t even mantain 20 FPS at 800*600*16bit (i tried unmarking option at the video menu but there are no changes) , i don´t know what to do. Something similar happens to every direct 3d based game I play. For example, if I play Counter Strike choosing direct 3d at 1024*768*32bit it works but sometimes gets sluggish. If I play it with opengl at 1024*768*32, i get constant 50 fps or more.

Please, somebody help, tell me what can i try.

Thanks.

My system specs are in my sig...

Desktop system runs super sweet with everything on except widescreen and frame limiter, draw distance max, [email protected] + AA 2x. The laptop however, runs at [email protected], draw distance half-way, everything on except trails, widescreen, and frame limiter.

Pentium 1.4 GHZ processor

128 mb of RAM (forgot what kind)

GeForce2 MX 32MB

40 gig HD

Windows ME  :/

CD-RW drive 4x4x8  :/

DVD ROM drive

I don't know the frame rate (could someone tell me what program to use to find out?),i left the resolution to default which is 970x720x16 (i think).  I've tried running it at 600x480x16 but damn the graphics sucked.  At 970x720x16 it lags but it isn't to the point here it's unplayable.  Sometimes though, it will freeze for 5 to 10 seconds for no reason at all but then continue on normally.  I can't wait to get my new computer around Christmas which GTA 3 will kick ass on:

Pentium 3.0 GHZ ( I heard that it might be out by then)

2 gigs of RAM

Windows XP Pro

GeForce4 Ti 4600 :D

120 gig HD @7200 rpm

Gta3 runs perfect except for a little problem when you put the camera to close for example when yuo are running with the camera just behind you it starts leaving like a shadow behind but works perfect,I wanna ask you guys a question, How do you capture screenshots, and how do you put the game in any resolution?

This is madness!! With these high-end computers we should be able to play GTA3 without lags with the highest settings and resolution! I play all the newest games (for example; spiderman the movie) on 1024x768 and never even had a lag!! I think it's just a bug in the game and I hope somebody will fix it VERY SOON.

The first three hours I played GTA3 lag free at 1024x768. Later on I had to lower it to 800x600 to keep things optimal. But when I got to Staunton Island even 800x600 got slow.

My system:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1,53 Ghz)

MSI KT3 Ultra mainboard. (onboard 6ch sound)

256 MB DDR333

40GB Maxtor 7200rpm at ATA133

CLUB3D ATI RADEON 7500 (64MB)

Windows XP PRO build 2600

Cable modem.
