Do you mean 3.06 GHz?

2 gigs of ram and a video card with only 64 megs? Shall I assume that gaming is not your machine's primary role? I'm guessing audio or image editing.

Well I think that 64MB of graphic memory is perfect for gaming. It might not be as 128MB or 256MB but it'll do.

When I went from a GF2 MX400 64MB to a GF4 TI4600 128MB, I was able to steer cars with my mouse a lot more accurately because my comp wasn't focusing as much on drawing the frames.

Besides, I never said 64MB was bad. I said that along with 2 gigs of memory, the system would be imbalanced IF it was for gaming. IF it is for gaming, one could've easily gotten away with 1 gig (still not necessary) and a top of the line 128MB vidcard. Please don't take my words out of context.

Hercules Kyro2 64Mb Prophet Graphics

32x10x40x CD-RW

512 DDR SD-RAM

Game is unplayably slow and choppy. Strangley though, if I drive down a road, fps is about 5, and then if I turn around and drive back up fps is about 40. Seems to work better loading the textures from RAM. Maybe. I'm unsure.

@Kitteh: Yes, but only because your case is blue sarcasm.gif

@Ryuduo: Unless you have an NForce mobo or one that can share out at least 64MB, you'll never be able to play GTA3 well with integrated video.

I am very worried, and no one has given me the right advice to solve this problem, is it cpu, ram, or what? I would be very thank full to the advice that leads to the cure.thanks

The topic description says "no chatting please, just the facts" so that makes this off topic. And you made a whole thread about it here, so that's double posting. Please don't do it again.

Demarest!

I am curious, is your avatar of the Matrix movies, or self-portrait?

It's probably a pretty dumb question, but I'm only a casual Matrix fan. I did look at PCs the past week and Walmart has an amazing PC package for under $800 including a monitor. HP brand I think, verdict? Good buy for gaming and video??

I'd still like to spend 1K or less colgate.gif -Bill

I bought GTA III for my PC last year and couldn't get it to run at all, I ended up giving it away to a work colleague.

My specs are:-

Pentium III

550 Mhz

40x CD ROM

I can't remember make of video card but it is 16mb

I did read the box before I bought it and I had better than the minimum requirements so it should have worked! No?

i have honestly never experienced slow down at all. this just proves to all of you big pc spenders outthere that you don't need the best money can but. i bought this pc for $400 and then the video card for $90. all you have to do is take care of your pc. i have about 7 games installed and all work wondefully at max settings. i have played gta3 for the past day or so and have been everywhere in the game and it has never slowed down or lagged. just make sure all background programs are closed. another thing i suggest is to disable the background on your desktop. suprisingly this helps oh so very much. colgate.gif

DSL Internet Connection

48x dvd/cd-rw Combo Drive

16x Cd/rw drive (only burns at 8x for some reason)

networked with another home computer that couldn't run gta3 without a new motherboard.

(edit) I forgot to mention that it runs fine, though slightly laggish at 1600x1200 with my 19 inch monitor...or lags some when running RealGTA3

HP/Compaq nx9010 Laptop

P4 2.6GHz

128 ram (112 avail)

16Mb Radeon IGP 345M

DX 8.1

WinXP Home Edition 2002, SP1

GTA3, ALL MINIMUM settings, 640X480X16 = nothing but stutter,2-5sec freeze, 1-2sec movement - real bad sad.gif

Tried what I could get from here (some links to stuff - like "fps booster" don't work),no improvement.

I noticed the game is best on first start, degrades rapidly with succeeding missions until completely un-playable..

New to XP - What are TASK MANAGER/ PROCESSES? I have 28 of them "running"(is this a problem?), nothing is listed under the APPLICATIONS tab.

Extra plug-in keyboard and infrared Mouse seem to cause no problems, the game is still super choppy without them.

What a cool game. Shame it doesn't run well for me.

Alright dont laugh, but i think i have the worse specs on this board playing gta III.

DirectX 9.0b

10GB Hard Drive Space

95Megs of Ram

8 Video Memory

16bit and 24bit colors

Intel Graphics Card

I can play the game just fine, at times it skips. But other then its alright, good enough so i can play the game.. I can run the game with the settings on HIGH COLORS 1280X1024 and keep the in game settings on 640x480.

Im also using a tool: GTA III 3D Analyze, or Tommi-systems 3D Analyze and HIGHFPS.

Overall, i do have plans to upgrade soon. But as you can see there im really having no trouble playing the game. I own vice city, but havent played it yet!

Okay, I haven't reply'd yet in this topic:

Specs

  • Amd xp2000+
  • 1024MB ddr pc 2700
  • Epox 8k9a-I
  • Radeon 9700 pro
  • 80 GB wd 800ZJB (game + os installed on this) UDMA ch1 master
  • Liteon 156h dvd drive ch1 slave
  • 120 GB maxtor P series (8 MB cache) UDMA ch2 master
  • Liteon 411s dvd burner ch2 slave
  • Realtek cheapass nic

In november 2002 this was a mid/high end system. Now it still performs decent.

Ok, now about how the game runs.

Windows 98

This game was a reason for me to switch to xp pro back in the days (had the game about end 2002 iirc); gta III locked up 2 to 10 minutes after the start, at first it runs great, but the performance becomes notacibly worse until it hard locks the pc

Windows xp pro

No problem at all, loads rather fast, runs decent at 1600x1200, until a reinstall of the os (finally had it stable in other games @ agp 4x, but windows somehow f00ked up the ntfs table). Right now it slows down, runs normal, slows a bit down, etcetera. I hadn't have it before, so I guess something has to be borked up.

Further, the game runs stable now, althoug I can't tab out anymore (1 out of 10 tries maybe works), I have to kill the game by ctrl-shift-esc, g, (del, enter)*

*repeat until desktop occures again.
