SyphonPayne
If you read the topic you would see that i did mentioned AMD and the ASUS specific type Motherboard. Not all will be effected. Everyone has different configurations. That's because ASUS sucks.
boogernut
is windows going to make an update so that this will stop happening (with the SP3 update)?
Star-Lord
is windows going to make an update so that this will stop happening (with the SP3 update)? Most likely, just keep visiting their site for patches, i doubt they are going to pull it and redo it. Also check here for problems and solutions: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1173
Superfly.
Just ran the update, everything went fine on my Dell laptop. I don't really notice any difference one way or the other.
Democrab
Maybe not say in your title as though SP3 is a great thing that will wreck every install, just say "if you run AMD!" And it worked on my aunts computer, Venice core Athlon64. If you read the topic you would see that i did mentioned AMD and the ASUS specific type Motherboard. Not all will be effected. Everyone has different configurations. Her's has a Gigabyte motherboard, so she's safe, but the thing about the title, is its probably that someone will read it, go "OH NO, I BETTER NOT INSTALL IT EVER!" even if they have a Pentium 4 or Core 2 Duo or something that isn't affected, and will later get done from a security Hole... And I did read the topic. Also, Didn't the same thing happen with SP2 and Intel Pentium 4 Prescott CPU's?

OK sounds feasible If a MOD can please! do me a favor and edit the title so their's no further misunderstanding, then I would ask to please make it so. I have no intentions of causing any panic, only awareness.
Wolf68k
Let's get a few more things straight about this issue. The problem is 1) computer makers like HP, Dell, and so on that make 1 image that they use on both Intel and AMD based machines and something about the Intel part screws up non-Intel based machines. So it's stands to reason that if some how an image was used on a PC that using a VIA or Cyrix could also be affected. So it's not M$'s fault as much as it the lazy a** crappy computer makers, Dell and HP and so on. 2) As for the ASUS being the problem it's limited to 1 mobo. I'm running both an ASUS mobo and AMD and have no problems with SP3, infact in some ways things to be running smoother and faster with SP3 compared to SP2. [CTD]LaBan
Xp will be supported til June 30th of 2008 but their's a chance that all that might change. Stay tuned! Microsoft will end selling it on this date and for system builder they will end selling it on January 31, 2009. XP will be supported until... from Wikipedia: On April 14, 2009, Windows XP will begin its "Extended Support" period that will last for 5 years until April 8, 2014. But it would be dead for that time.
