Brand New GTA IV info

Hi, I'm new here as you can probably tell. I signed up here cause like many other GTA and Sony fans here my PS3 stopped reading discs after playing GTA4. I bought my 60 gig PS3 at launch and had no problems before the game. I called my friend Mike and he checked my PS3 out. He said there was something defiantly wrong with my Blue Ray Drive. He talked to a couple of his friends he works with and he's getting my PS3 fixed for free.

I asked him if the game was the cause of destroying my PS3. He said that so far the PS3 only has a 2% fail rate. He also said that there's no direct evidence that GTA4 is the cause for breaking my PS3 and that my Blue Ray Drive simply fried itself. I said that since I've read some stories on this forum about many other people having the same problem on thier PS3 that it can't be just can't be a coincedence, he said something along the lines that," There's 3,000,000 PS3 in North America and there only a small percent of people experiencing this type of problem. Chances are that my PS3's Blue Ray Drive was going to break down weither or not I play GTA4". I took his advice with a grain of salt and I'm thankful for his help.

I'm not gonna lie, but I don't think I'll be playing GTA4 on PS3 when it comes back. I'm probably gonna refund my GTA4 game and spend the money on Metal Gear. One game is not worth losing my PS3 over. I hope any of this info is helpful to you guys. If your PS3 is having the same problem as mine, it looks like you have to bite the bullet and send it in for repairs.

Your warranty for the console would pay for this problem, especially if you did not do anything to create this failure. You should have contacted Sony and gotten it fixed through them, as you might have just voided any warranty by having him fix it. Also, many are getting fixed by the patch, but I'm sure eventually all problems will be fixed by a download. I understand your frustration, but don't over-react, I'm sure you will be able to play GTA IV with no problems after the fix, as it could be you just had a failed blu-ray drive, I feel for you though, it is a lot of money to have something like that happen.

My point is this isn't "new" info, I've heard the 2-3% fail rate thing before. Usually when someone starts a topic called New GTAIV info from Sony you expect to find an article about it. Not someone's experience ringing up Sony Customer Support and being told something that could be true or totally untrue.

Mine's a 60GB refurb model and working perfectly...within accepted parameters of course.

I would and have suspected the drive to be at fault...it's often the one line where data gets taken in directly and is highly suspect to fail due to overall mechanical nature

Kill yourself? Not constructive criticism, you need to explain how a program that is not Computer programming (virus/Trojan) can destroy a console hardware device. In my book, there's just no way it's possible. A computer can be salvaged if a harddrives' contents are wiped.

So,

You bought GTAIV, your console failed. Your 'friend' calls up Sony, they tell him that the PS3 has a 2-3% failure rate and that you were simply unlucky.

You send your console in for repairs, yet you don't want to play GTAIV on the PS3 again because you're afraid it'll break again... Which is why you're going to return GTAIV, and buy MGS.

Your advice is as follows: If your PS3 is broken, send it in for repairs.

Where is the NEW information from SONY? None of this information is new, nor is it from Sony. All you did was take a very simple issue, and expand it into some fully fledged story, for absolutely no reason.

Haha this is a stupid topic.

My Xbox broke so i got it repaired played GTA4 an i will be honest an say that it does crash every now and again but i think that will sorted with a patch very soon.

I think PS3 already has an update??

Also R* were working in unchartered territory the PS3 hasnt been out long jus wait a little while an all will b sorted dont stop playing GTA its such a good game.
