Realistic city-wide safehouses

I posted this in another thread but I think it deserves it's own thread so I can see what other people think. If you're just gonna flame then don't bother posting at all.

Personally I hope they don't bring back permanently buyable safehouses. I think a good idea would to be able to rent a motel/hotel room/suite. You can pay once and that room would be good to save/sleep, save a car, use as a safehouse for a certain amount of time (12, 24, or 48 in game hours).

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Items marked with a '*' are decoration only and not interactive.

Listed in In-game hours

Single "Room" Storage Shed

Ex.Picture

$20 - 12 Hours

$30 - 24 Hours

$50 - 48 Hours

-Similar to Claude's first safehouse in GTAIII

-Single Mattress

-No Parking Space

Small/unkept single room

$50 - 12 Hours

$100 - 24 Hours

$150 - 48 Hours

-Small, Crappy TV

-Fold-out bed/couch

-Cooler (can get drunk)

-Restroom*

-1 Parking Space

Small Suite

$150 - 12 Hours

$180 - 24 hours

$240 - 48 Hours

-Decent TV

-1 Bed

-Very Small Sitchen*

-Mini-fridge (can get drunk)

-Restroom*

-Vending Machines Outside

-1 Parking Space

Medium Suite

$400 - 12 Hours

$650 - 24 Hours

$900 - 48 Hours

-Small, flat screen TV

-1 Bed

-Small Kitchen*

-Mini-fridge (can get drunk)

-Dining Area*

-Medium Restroom*

-Seperate bedroom*

-Dartboard

-1 parking space

Fancy Suite

$2,000 - 12 Hours

$4,000 - 24 hours

$8,000 - 48 Hours

-Medium Flat Screen TV

-Seperated Rooms

-1 Large Bed

-Medium Kitchen*

-Mini-fridge (can get drunk)

-Darts

-Pool Table

-2 parking spaces in a parking complex

Penthouse

$5,000 - 12 Hours

$10,000 - 24 Hours

$20,000 - 48 Hours

-Large Flatscreen TV

-Seperated Rooms*

-2 Bedrooms w/ Small, Flatscreen TVs

-2 Large Beds

-Large Kitchen*

-Refrigerator (can get drunk)

-Dining area*

-Large restroom*

-Fish tank*

-Dartboard

-Pool Table

-Small bowling lane

-Balcony/Accessable Roof

-3 Parking spaces in a private garage

-----------------------------------------------------------------

You can stay inside as long as you like after the time runs out. However one you leave you will not be able to re-enter as the door will be "locked" unless you pay again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

There could be an available girlfriend that works as a receptionist and could get you rooms for free or a lowered price.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

R* are going for realism so this would make sence. The players could have safehouses all around town, like they want yet the game stays realistic in that you don't become a real estate mogul so-to-speak)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Just to clarify again the things I listed such as Kitchen and Restroom are only for decoration...so don't flame me saying "A kitchen is pointless!" or something.

I find your idea admirable, to say the very least. The question is, is RockStar listening?

But then they would also need to include jobs in order to pay for that stuff after the story line has ended. IMO it would just become a shadier version of the SIMS, no thanks. I like free safe houses or ones gained from killing people.

How is that like the sims? It's just a normal safehouse that you have to pay for. As I said elements like the kitchen, the restroom, etc would just there to make it look like a REAL hotel. NO upgrading or styling like Saints Row 2 and NO preparing food, using the restroom, etc like The Sims.

Permanent safehouses would still be there but just 2 or 3. Having 30 houses all around the city wouldn't fit with the 'more realistic' approach R* is going for. Also you wouldn't need to do jobs to pay for it. This whole thread was created beause people were saying "I have millions of dollars and nothing to buy". With a minimum price of $20 and the added benefit of a girlfriend to help lower or eliminate the cost I doubt any jobs would be needed. And if extra money was needed you could just steal it. Or there will probably be money making features in the next GTA like car exporting or home robbing which would be in line with that realism bit AND be useful and easy.

By the way i'm not saying the game has to be uber-realistic i'm just going by what R* said. Realism without sacraficing gameplay (ie. Realism without taking away fun)

Mistreated

Nice idea.

I think you're right that if R* want to fit in a more 'realistic' approach to the game then renting a place would fit much more than having 10+ safe houses all over a map.

For instance in the game you could have 3 safe houses which are permanent, then if you want more than one safehouse in each island/area you would have to rent one (or more), and you'd have a choice of which to choose. In GTA4 for example, if you only had one safehouse in Algonquin, I imagine a lot of people would probably want to 'rent' another one.

This is the sort of thing I would like to have seen in GTA4.

What happens when you run out of money because you are not making any from missions once the game is over? 20,000 only gets you 48 hours? I know you talk about realism, but whoa, that isn't even close to realistic (video game, so it doesn't matter truly about realism), for most people your chart would only lead to them spending all their money.

good idea, but again, it is realistic to also buy a bit of property here or there..

especially if the game makes u deal drugs or something like that, so they shouldnt get rid of it altogether.

and to pay heaps for just 48 hours isnt really worthwhile when u think about it, cos u need to have at least a couple of permanent places somewhere. but as a temp then yeah i agree. smile.gif

There is NO need at all for those options, although this is a good idea, all you need is a bed to save and a wardrobe. upgrades should be simple, such as a kitchen where you can regain health, and maybe body armour that will spawn there. I think the idea of having a pooltable and dartboard or whatever is excellent but theres no need for the 2 bedrooms etc. The fridge for getting drunk is also good. icon14.gif

I like that idea. I like it a lot. I don't think that the people left on the boards will like it very much, especially the complainers. They all like the idea of owning the city. Those people are probably the reason that R* isn't paying attention to the forums right now, since the majority of the happy gamers have either left here or are keeping quiet amongst all the out-of-proportion complaints. This forum in no way represents an accurate depiction of GTA's fanbase any more. I feel like leaving myself because I've had it with all the complaint threads that keep showing up. Anyways, I would love to see that idea implemented into the next installment of the series. That would be reason enough to keep the money flowing.

Excellent Idea icon14.gif You just made The Visionist Respect List. cool.gif

If you have a nice penthouse in a Hotel you could also ring up all your friends and throw a party, meet some random characters, etc, etc...

Ah, I really wanna see this implemented now! Such potential!

I kind of agree on this system, we need to have something to spend our money, on, it's stupid we have a whole lot of money, and nothing to spend it on.

At the same time, once the missions are completed there is no real way to generate high income. Yes you could rob people, or do side jobs for money, but eventually this system would expire all your cash, with no way to make more.

Yeah, but wouldn't they have to slow time up a bit for it to be worth while?

Cant you read. You don't have to get the $20,000 if you dont have much money there was also one there that ore suit your style the cheapest. And if you run out of money its not that hard to get more by Vigilante, taxi (if put back in), Import/export, assassin,

Maybe if rockstar could put in another gambling sort of system but alot harder than SA.

And he did mention that there would be purchasable properties but only a few.(I also liked having business's they gained money aswell)

This would be a great idea cookie.gif for thinking of it biggrin.gif

I had this idea of recycling money. I guess the only argument is that GTA isn't really based on business management tounge.gif

But I figure if you do an activity long, say scrounge up enough cash from doing races you could unlock your own garage. Have a rough payment on tax, mechanics, and parts. But have free immediate repairs/customization, customers, and of course the payments will want to keep you racing, maybe even have a team of racers to race for you.

Of course if racing isn't your thing there'd be other options available.

I dunno, might be a bit much for a game called Grand Theft Auto, but for someone like me who has heaps of freetime it'd be something to pull a gamer back in, as opposed to getting 100% completion in a couple weeks and only coming back every now and again to run from cops/shoot people randomly.

Yes, I can read. I have a B.S. in English, so thanks for noticing. No matter which you choose to spend money on, it takes a lot away. You say get more money, none of those offers 5K or more, as you can make completing missions. After completing those side missions however, there isn't sufficient income. For this to be a logical plan, then a system to make substantial cash after completing the game also needs to be developed, you can't just have a way to blow money, but no real way to make it back.

Yea, or pay rent by the week you know? Play it like an Extended Stay America franchise or something. It makes sense, there's nothing else to really spend your money on, why not be burdened with the requirement of paying for housing? We do it in the real world, right?

Yeah...I mentioned car exporting...at $30,000+ PER CAR it's a healthy income. Also who knows what R* has up their sleeves? There could be alot of ways to make money in the next GTA. A possible idea is that at the end of the game you could perform 'hits' once a day or so...or you could be the owner of a business (a small business...like the size of romam's taxi deal in GTA IV) and you would automatically gain money once every day or 2. you had the courrier missions or whatever they were called in SA every so many days or something. GTA has so much potential! It's a sandbox game for crying out loud! There are tons of ways that R* could implement to make money after the story.

EDIT: The next character could scam up some kind of welfare con to...i dunno but you get my point.

When you think about it, since when has a illegal immigrant had about 10 apartments in 1 city?

Good idea but this isn't some property tycoon game, it's GTA

I also like the idea of car import/exports. I spent weeks trying to find them in SA, it isn't as good as IV's export missions.

I like your idea, but I think safehouses should actually be 'safehouses' - or rather places where you - a criminal could lay low from the law and other criminals and save. They should not be normal appartments - or rather they should not be normal appartments towards the end of the game where you have sh*tloads of heat on you.

You should be given the option of renting seedy, run-down sh*t-holes from other criminals at a high cost, or for doing jobs and favors for them. These places should be much moree secure than a normal appartment, which if you rent instead you take on the risk of being ratted out.

Hell - your sleep for saving could also be disturbed by raids done on the place, and the game is saved only after you wake up. If it's a normal save, it just works like with GTA 4.

But if something goes wrong, a quick clip of an assasin shooting you in the head while you sleep, or you are woken up by the noise of a few thugs raiding the place who you have to fight. Either way the game is not saved, and you have to loose the cops and find another place to save your game. A far shot, but I like that idea. smile.gif

I really must make the last three posts here into a topic. Someone remember them for me please. biggrin.gif

Honestly i would rather just buy properties than have o rent them. Or maybe in the next GTA you could have both were you can but some major houses and rent out the smaller ones or something.
