GTA 4 broke my xbox

Recommended Posts

BUMP! And I have the same problem. GTA IV started freezing within roughly 4 mins upon entering the game, then it started freezing within 5-15 seconds of loading a save... now all I get are those red lights upon startup!

I'm worried that my $470-ish '360 Elite might need to be replaced.

If that's so, then I'll need to put off my plans for a $700+ upgrade for my PC. Geez. Crazy world, this is...

EDIT: This started happening the day before yesterday. I can only hope that I'll get this thing sorted out before too long... or when new (and good) '360 GTA IV cheats are discovered...

EDIT 2: Oh yeah, I wanted to say that just before the red lights appear, I hear a sound that is like "Rummh rummh rummh rummh".

I thought the 360 elites were supposed to be immune to RROD?

Nope, they are built just like the launch consoles. Think of every 360 as a time bomb thats set at random.

that sucks, i specifically bought the elite to avoid the RROD from ever happening to me again.

Meh, thats why im a PC gamer smile.gif

sctually the elite isnt launch model

the elites have the new chips to help it stay away from the rrod

i have elite and it stays alot ocoler hten launch date models

and i think the only 2 models that use these new chips are the newest premiums and the elites everything else is unprotected

Ok, if my Xbox 360 continues to **** with me, what should I do?

1. Buy a PS3 and the PS3 version of GTA IV.

2. Try & Repair my '360 an if nesseccary replace it.

I'm leaning towards #1, especially since the really good cheats are currently only (known at least) for the PS3.

The main reason I'm a PC gamer is that I hate having to buy a $350+ console every year, in order to play the latest games. mad.gif

Ps4 is overdue already then. How much do the latest graphics cards cost? CPU's? RAM?

To OP, How long have you been using the console without having a rest? over extended periods of using it may cause problems for the console, and for you at that matter, I'm sure it says in the rear of every games manual, something about having a break.

so after having no problems with my xbox for 2 years, after 2 days of having gta 4 freeze up, it then went on to crash my whole xbox...so now i got the RRoD and am totally screwed...i think these shylocks owe me a new xbox and i want my money back for this piece of ish game... suicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gif

same thing happened to me last night, I called the centre.. they are sending me a brand new xbox even though I no longer had a warrenty! WOOT!

I rarely turn off my console, yes. I never saw it as a possible cause for concern to leave it on for long times. I do the same with my PC, and aside from a few performance issues on certain high-end games, I have no problem.

BTW, if you're curious, my PC specs are:

Vista Ultimate

Intel P4 3.0-ish GHz

nVidia GeForce 7600 GS

Sound card: Many years old so I forget the Name/Manufacturer, but it suits my needs.

EDIT: Micro Center advertises nVidia GeForce 9000 series from $200-500'ish, obviously depending on exactly what type and sub-manufacturer. Oh yah, I have good experiences with nVidia. smile.gif

Now people please don't go yapping about how Vista sucks, as I find it fine aside from it eating up a good 25-35% of my 1 gig of SDRAM...

Thanks

Its GOTY, it just has so much awsomeness pumped into it that your Xbox blew up

Ha... very useful information. confused.gif As stated previously, I'm strongly considering something like "Forget my RRoD Xbox 360! I'm getting a PS3!"

Please stay on topic and not joke too much about it, especially considering I'm not too happy about the loss of a $470 game system that I bought last August just for GTA IV. And that others may have had their '360 go to heck in a similar fashion. Thanks. smile.gif

Hey what version of Vista you have Kurt, 64bit or 32bit? I run the 64bit, and had to really mess with the bios settings to keep certain games from crashing .. like UT3 ..

I have :

Vista Home Premium 64bit

Intel QX9650 @ 3.20ghz

2 Geforce 8800gts 640mb

SB XG Fatal1ty Pro

4 gig of memory @ DDR2 800

Built it myself just recently and it cost me a pretty penny.

But dude if you're willing to wait you just need to replace it...the warrenty has been extended. Just call em up and get a new one. Same thing happened to me, my new one is working fine. (free...by the way)

@ Bebop: Not possible, have already voided the warranty by looking inside of it.

@ Rat: I have 32 bit. I'd need a whole new computer to use 64 bit, I think. I'm not willing to invest in something I don't currently need.

But in any event... should I invest about $440-500 in a PS3 + GTA IV or should I get a new or refurbished '360?

EDIT: Rant time: I want the Never Die & Lock Wanted Level cheats -- like now! lol

I would get the ps3 and GTAIV personally .. if you wait until 6/12, they will have the 80gig PS3 with the Metal Gear Solid IV package .. I had a bad experience with refurbished items.. But, if you like the game selection with the 360 more, get the 360.

Random thought: I can always talk to my friends via Xbox.com, so that shouldn't be a problem.

By the way, do you have any reccomendations on stores in which to buy a new PS3? There aren't many places nearby that aren't huge, overcharging household-name corporations that I can buy one from.

Geez. I really need to force myself to begin working on my A+ certification again, so I can start a home business for some extra $$.

Kurtis

Mainly all the stores are the same price, best buy, circuit city, target, wal mart.. Sometimes you can get lucky and find em on sale for a few $$ cheaper.. Where you from? Can you buy it online? You could probably buy it online, get free shipping, perhaps find a good deal..
